If your Android phone is somewhere in the house, open the Google Find Hub app on another device or go to android.com/find. Sign in with the Google Account used on the missing phone, select it, and choose Play sound. Google says the phone rings at full volume for five minutes, even when silent or set to vibrate. Use the map only to narrow the area, then follow the sound through rooms, furniture, bags, and other likely hiding places.

The method works best when Find Hub was enabled before the phone went missing and the phone still has power and a network connection. A last-known location or offline finding may help when a live position is unavailable, but neither guarantees room-level accuracy.

What you need before you start

You can search from another Android phone or tablet with the Find Hub app, or from any computer or phone browser at android.com/find. You need the Google Account associated with the misplaced Android phone. On someone else’s Android device, use Google’s supported guest or help-a-friend flow rather than adding your account permanently.

For the strongest chance of a live location and a working ring, Google’s preparation guidance says the missing phone should be:

Menu names and their exact paths vary by Android version and region. Some preparation controls described by Google apply only to Android 14 and later. Google also recommends enabling offline finding in advance; it cannot be switched on after the phone has already disappeared. See Google’s preparation guide for the current settings shown for your device.

Locate and ring the phone with Find Hub

1. Open Find Hub

  1. On another Android device, open the Find Hub app. On a computer or other browser, visit android.com/find.
  2. Sign in with the Google Account that is on the misplaced phone. If several accounts are available, use the one that owns the missing device.

The device list may take a moment to load. If the phone is not listed, check the account and the device’s Google Play visibility before assuming that the phone is offline.

2. Select the misplaced Android phone

Choose the phone from the device list. Find Hub may display a map pin and an accuracy indication. Treat that pin as an area to search, not as a room detector: indoor signals can place a phone somewhere in or near the home without identifying the exact room, floor, piece of furniture, or bag.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If the map shows a recent position, start near that area. If it shows only a stored or last-known point, use it as a clue about where the phone was when it last communicated; it may no longer be there.

3. Select “Play sound”

Choose Play sound. According to Google’s Find Hub instructions, the phone rings at full volume for five minutes even if it is set to silent or vibrate.

  1. Stand still for a few seconds so you can hear the first ring.
  2. Walk slowly through the area indicated on the map.
  3. Check rooms, sofas, beds, coat pockets, backpacks, desk drawers, laundry, and vehicles parked at home.
  4. Look under cushions and behind furniture; a phone can be audible while its screen is hidden.
  5. Start Play sound again if the five-minute ring ends before you locate it.

Moving methodically is more effective than relying on the pin alone. Walls, floors, closed doors, and soft furnishings can make the sound seem to come from a neighboring room.

4. Use the last-known location when live location is missing

Find Hub may offer a last-known location instead of a current position. That stored point can narrow your search, but it is stale by definition. A phone may stop reporting a live location because it ran out of power, was shut down, lost mobile or Wi-Fi connectivity, was damaged, entered Airplane mode, or had Wi-Fi turned off. Google lists these and other causes in its lost-device troubleshooting guidance.

What the map can—and cannot—tell you indoors

Find Hub’s map is a starting point for an indoor search, not a guarantee of room-level precision. GPS signals are weakened indoors, and the phone may estimate its position from available network and device signals. The accuracy circle can therefore cover multiple rooms or part of a building.

  • A small-looking pin does not prove the phone is in the exact room beneath it.
  • A position that is several minutes old may describe where the phone was before it was moved.
  • No current pin does not prove the phone is lost permanently; the device may simply be unreachable.
  • Once you are near the indicated home area, the full-volume ring is usually the most useful locating tool.

Do not infer a success rate or a fixed indoor accuracy distance: Google’s support pages do not publish a universal precision figure for homes.

Using a Google Nest device to ring the phone

If a compatible Google Nest speaker or display is already set up in your home, you can try a voice request such as “Hey Google, find my Pixel.” Google documents this as a convenience feature in Google Home and Nest Help.

The phone or accessory must have power, a Wi-Fi or mobile-data connection, a Google Account, Find Hub enabled, and visibility in Google Play. In a household with several people using the same Nest assistant, each person who wants to ring a device must link their Google Account and set up Voice Match.

Method What you use Prior setup and conditions Best use
Find Hub app or web Another Android device, or a browser at android.com/find Sign in with the missing phone’s Google Account; the phone must be configured and reachable for live actions Main method; can show a current or last-known location and issue Play sound
Google Nest voice assistant Compatible Nest speaker or display Nest account and Voice Match setup as applicable; the phone must be powered, connected, signed in, Find Hub-enabled, and visible on Google Play Hands-free convenience when the Nest setup already exists

A Nest device does not provide a room-level map or replace Find Hub access. If the voice request fails, return to the app or website so you can verify the account, device status, map, and available actions.

Why Find Hub may not work

The wrong Google Account is signed in

Sign out and try the account shown in the missing phone’s Settings under its Google account information. If you manage multiple phones, confirm that the selected device name and model match the phone in the house. Google’s preparation guidance recommends checking that the device is listed and visible in Google Play.

The phone is not listed

A phone that is not visible in Find Hub may not be associated with the account you used, may not be visible in Google Play, or may not have been prepared for device finding. Verify the account first, then review Find Hub and Google Play visibility settings on any other signed-in device. These checks cannot retroactively enable finding on a phone that is already inaccessible.

The map has no current location

Use a last-known point if Find Hub offers one, then search the indicated area and try Play sound. A live position can be unavailable after power loss, shutdown, damage, Airplane mode, missing mobile or Wi-Fi service, or Wi-Fi being off. Those conditions are listed in Google’s Find, secure or erase a lost Android device help.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Play sound is unavailable or does nothing

Check whether the phone still has power and a connection. Live actions require the device to be reachable. If the phone is offline, wait briefly and refresh Find Hub; if a last-known location is shown, search there. A silent or vibrate setting alone should not prevent Play sound, because Google specifies that this action uses full volume for five minutes.

The phone was recently switched off

Offline finding is conditional, not universal. Google describes encrypted recent-location storage and network-based finding for supported configurations. For supported models such as the Pixel 8 series, Google says the network may locate a phone for several hours after it is turned off when the appropriate offline-network setting was enabled beforehand and Bluetooth and Location were on when the phone shut down. Do not extend that capability to every Android model. Review Google’s preparation instructions and the device-specific information in Google’s Find Hub data-protection explanation.

A Nest voice request fails

Confirm that the Nest device is using the intended Google account and that Voice Match is configured for each household member who wants to find a phone. Also check the phone’s power, network connection, Find Hub setting, Google Account sign-in, and Google Play visibility. If any of these prerequisites is missing, use the Find Hub app or website instead.

Prepare your phone so the next search is easier

Set up Find Hub while you still have the phone in hand. The available labels depend on Android version, so follow the current options in Google’s “Be ready to find a lost Android device” guide.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Keep the phone signed in to the Google Account you actually use.
  • Keep Location enabled when you want location-based finding to work.
  • Enable Allow device to be located in Find Hub.
  • Make sure the phone remains visible in Google Play.
  • Review and enable offline-finding options in advance if your model and Android version support them.
  • If you rely on a Nest device, link the relevant Google Account and complete Voice Match setup before an emergency.

These settings improve the chance that Find Hub can identify or reach the phone; they do not guarantee a live map position or a ring when the device has no power or connection.

A quick at-home recovery checklist

  1. Open Find Hub or android.com/find on another device.
  2. Sign in with the Google Account used on the missing phone.
  3. Select the correct phone and note whether the map point is current or last known.
  4. Choose Play sound and listen at full volume for up to five minutes.
  5. Search the indicated area systematically, including furniture, bags, pockets, drawers, and adjacent rooms.
  6. If no live location appears, check the last-known point and the phone’s power and connectivity conditions.
  7. If a configured Nest speaker or display is nearby, try the voice request as an additional hands-free option.

Use a simple decision path when the first attempt fails

Start by confirming that the selected device is the correct model and that you are signed in to the account used on it. If it is listed, refresh the page or app and check whether the status changes from a current location to a last-known location. A last-known point is still useful for deciding which rooms to search first, but do not assume the phone stayed there.

If Play sound is available, trigger it before spending time changing settings. Walk slowly, pause at doorways, and repeat the ring after checking one area. Sound can reflect off walls, so compare its volume from two adjacent rooms rather than trusting the apparent direction. Check charging spots, kitchen counters, sofa gaps, bedside tables, coat pockets, backpacks, laundry baskets, desk drawers, and any vehicle kept at home. The map and the sound answer different questions: the map narrows the neighborhood or home area; the ring helps identify the actual room.

If the action remains unavailable, treat the phone as unreachable rather than assuming Find Hub is malfunctioning. Power loss, shutdown, damage, Airplane mode, disabled Wi-Fi, or no mobile/Wi-Fi service can all prevent a current position or live command. Wait briefly, refresh, and then use the last-known point if one appears. Do not repeatedly change account settings on the borrowing device; first verify the account and Google Play visibility.

How offline finding changes the search

Offline finding relies on preparation completed before the phone went missing. Google describes encrypted recent-location information and network-based finding settings, but availability depends on the Android version, model, and settings. It is not a hidden replacement for power or a guarantee that every Android phone can be found after shutdown.

For supported devices such as Pixel 8 series phones, Google says the network may locate the device for several hours after it turns off when the appropriate offline-network option was enabled in advance and Bluetooth and Location were on when the phone shut down. That statement is model-specific. Do not use it to promise the same result for another manufacturer or model. If offline finding was never enabled, there is no way to add that protection after the loss.

Privacy and security considerations

Use your own account or the supported guest/help-a-friend flow on a borrowed Android device. Avoid leaving your Google Account signed in on someone else’s phone after the search. A Nest setup also depends on account linking and Voice Match, so each household member should use the account associated with their own phone.

If Find Hub places the phone outside the home or you suspect theft, switch from recovery to protection. Use the available secure-device options and follow Google’s account and device-protection guidance. Consider erasing only when recovery is no longer realistic: erasure is irreversible for local device data, and it can end the opportunity to keep using Find Hub to locate the phone.

When to secure the phone instead of continuing the room search

If the map places the phone outside your home or you suspect it was taken, stop treating the situation as a simple misplaced-device search. Use Find Hub’s available secure-device options and follow Google’s account and device-protection guidance at Find, secure or erase a lost Android device. Erasing is an irreversible step for the device’s local data, so use it only when recovery is no longer realistic and you understand what will be lost.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make my Android phone ring if it is on silent?

Open Find Hub or android.com/find, sign in with the Google Account on the phone, select the device, and choose Play sound. Google says it rings at full volume for five minutes even when silent or vibrating.

Can Google Find Hub find my phone inside my house?

It can often narrow the search to the home area, but the map is not a room-level detector. Indoor signals and an older location can cover several rooms. Use Play sound to identify the phone’s actual location.

What if Find Hub shows no current location?

Use a last-known location if offered, then check the indicated rooms and try Play sound. Power loss, shutdown, damage, Airplane mode, disabled Wi-Fi, or missing mobile/Wi-Fi service can prevent a live position.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do I need another Android phone?

No. You can use the Find Hub app on another Android device or a browser on a computer or other phone at android.com/find. A borrowed Android device should use Google’s guest or help-a-friend flow.

Why is my phone missing from the device list?

Verify that you signed in with the Google Account used on the phone and that the device is visible in Google Play. If it was never configured for Find Hub, those checks cannot retroactively enable finding.

Can a Google Nest speaker find my phone?

A compatible Nest speaker or display can issue a request such as “Hey Google, find my Pixel” when the phone has power, connectivity, a Google Account, Find Hub enabled, and Google Play visibility. Household users may also need linked accounts and Voice Match.

Will offline finding work after every Android phone is turned off?

No. It depends on prior offline-finding settings and supported hardware. Google specifically describes several-hours-after-shutdown network finding for supported models such as Pixel 8 series when Bluetooth and Location were on at shutdown.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is there a guaranteed indoor accuracy distance?

No universal home-accuracy figure is published. Treat the pin and its accuracy indication as a search area, then rely on the full-volume ring and a systematic room-by-room check.

The Bottom Line

Use Find Hub at android.com/find or its Android app, sign in with the missing phone’s Google Account, select the device, and choose Play sound. The phone should ring at full volume for five minutes, including on silent. Let the map narrow the area, but use the sound to check rooms, furniture, bags, and pockets. Last-known and offline locations are useful only when available and properly configured; a Nest speaker is an optional hands-free method, not a requirement.
