Android Auto’s current navigation instructions do not document a dedicated control for selecting your next Google Calendar event. The dependable approach is to make sure the event has a complete address or recognizable venue name, then ask Google Maps—or another compatible navigation app—to navigate there. If you use the car’s screen to type, the vehicle must be in Park.
That distinction matters: Android Auto can provide voice-guided navigation and destination choices on the display, but those documented controls are not the same as an event list that automatically finds your next appointment. Some people have reported Calendar locations appearing in Maps or being handed off from a phone; others say they do not appear. Treat those behaviors as variable and keep the event’s destination ready to enter yourself.
Can Android Auto navigate directly to your next Calendar event?
Google’s Android Auto navigation instructions explain how to enter a destination by voice or choose one in a navigation app on the car display. They do not describe a control that automatically finds the next event in Google Calendar and starts navigation to it. That means you should not count on an event appearing as a selectable destination every time you connect your phone, or assume that tapping an event on the car display will launch its address.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Android Auto’s documented workflow is destination-based: tell a navigation app where you want to go, or select a destination using the app’s display interface. The event is useful as the place to get the destination details, but the documented navigation steps do not say that Android Auto reads the next Calendar appointment for you. If the event has a clear address or venue name, you can use that same information as a normal navigation destination.

Some people have reported Calendar locations appearing in Maps, while others have reported that the locations no longer appear for them. These accounts differ and do not establish a universal behavior. A March 2024 community post also describes tapping the event’s location in Calendar on a phone and having it appear on the Android Auto display, but Google’s current navigation instructions do not document that as a guaranteed handoff. The reports do not establish that the feature was definitively removed or restored for everyone. (Google’s Android Auto navigation instructions; December 2022 community report; March 2024 community report)
So the practical answer to “How do I use Android Auto to navigate to the location in a calendar event?” is: check the event’s location, then ask your navigation app to go there. You can try an automatic suggestion or phone handoff if it happens for you, but have a direct voice or display route ready in case it does not.
Prepare the event location before you drive
A useful route starts with an event location that a navigation app can recognize. Before the trip, open the upcoming event in Google Calendar and check its location field. This is especially worthwhile when the event invitation was created with a shorthand label, a business name shared by multiple places, or no location at all.

- Open the upcoming event in Google Calendar.
- Check its location field. Add the complete street address, or use a venue name that Maps can identify clearly. An address is preferable when a venue name could match more than one place.
- Save the event, then use the address or venue name as the destination in Android Auto.
A September 2022 answer in the Android Auto community specifically recommends putting the full address in the event’s “Where” field. That is dated community guidance about Calendar-location behavior, not a current official guarantee that Maps will automatically surface the event. Still, making the destination explicit is useful even if no automatic Calendar suggestion appears: you can say the address aloud or select it in your navigation app. (September 2022 community answer)
Think of the Calendar location as the destination text you will need, not as a promise that Android Auto will import the event. A complete address gives you a specific phrase to speak. A recognizable venue name may also work, but if Maps offers several matches, you will need to identify the one that corresponds to the appointment. If the event has only a broad label such as a neighborhood or a vague meeting note, the app may not have enough information to distinguish the intended place.
It can also help to review the location before you leave rather than trying to fix it while driving. The goal is not to change any Android Auto setting or discover a hidden Calendar control; it is simply to know the destination in advance, so you can enter it using the navigation method that is appropriate at the time.

Navigate to the event with your voice
Voice entry is the straightforward option when you are in the car and already know the event’s address or venue. Google says Android Auto supports voice-guided navigation through Google Maps or a compatible navigation app, including directions, estimated arrival times, live traffic information, and lane guidance. Android Auto’s instructions describe asking for directions or saying “Navigate to” followed by a location. If more than one place matches, confirm the intended result.
Recommended Free Tools
- Connect Android Auto and open Google Maps, or use the microphone in Android Auto to start a voice request.
- Say, “Navigate to” followed by the event’s address or venue name.
- Listen to or review the proposed result. If Google Maps returns more than one place, confirm the result that matches your event before starting the route.
For example, use the street address from the event rather than asking Android Auto to “go to my next meeting.” The latter depends on a Calendar integration that current Android Auto navigation instructions do not describe. Speaking the destination directly uses the documented navigation flow and avoids relying on whether an event card or Calendar suggestion happens to appear.
Use the complete address when an organization has more than one branch or when the venue name is not distinctive. If you use a venue name and the app presents multiple possible places, do not select the first result automatically; confirm the one that matches the event. This is the point at which the address you checked beforehand can resolve ambiguity.
Voice entry is a practical choice when hands-free destination entry is preferable to interacting with the screen. It does not eliminate the need to check that the result is correct. The purpose of the confirmation step is to distinguish among matches, not to verify that Calendar handed off the event. (Google’s Android Auto navigation instructions)
Choose a destination on the car display
If you prefer not to use voice search, open the navigation app on the Android Auto display and select a destination from its available options. Google’s documented Google Maps flow includes Recent, Categories, and Saved destinations. These are ways to choose a destination in Maps; they are not documented as a Calendar-event list. If your event’s place is offered as a destination in one of those areas, select it as you would another Maps destination, but do not expect every Calendar event to be listed there.
The display method can suit a destination that is already available in Maps—for example, one surfaced among Recent or Saved places—without requiring you to speak its name. Categories are another documented option for finding places. These display choices are not a separate way to browse your Calendar, so if the place is not listed, return to the destination-entry approach and use the address or venue name.

You can type a destination using the car screen only while the vehicle is in Park. Google’s guidance explicitly says to put the car in Park before typing a destination on the screen. If you are already driving, use voice input or wait until you can safely park rather than trying to enter text on the display. Do not treat a stopped traffic light or a brief pause as permission to type; the instruction is to put the vehicle in Park. (Google’s Android Auto navigation instructions)
This gives the two main Google Maps approaches a clear trade-off. Voice lets you request the address or venue without typing on the car display. Display selection can be convenient when the destination is visible among the app’s options, while typing on that display is reserved for when the vehicle is in Park. Neither option, as documented, directly selects the next Calendar event.
If the Calendar location does not appear automatically
If you connect Android Auto and do not see the event’s destination, that does not prevent you from navigating to it. The automatic Calendar behavior is uncertain; the documented fallback is to enter the address or venue through the navigation app. Try these options:
- Ask for the destination directly. Say the event’s address or a distinctive venue name to Google Maps instead of waiting for a Calendar suggestion. If multiple results appear, confirm the one that matches your event.
- Try tapping the location in Calendar on your phone. A user reported in March 2024 that this sent the location to the Android Auto display. Treat it as a possible workaround, not a consistent feature documented by Google. Do not handle the phone while driving; check or tap it before setting off, or when safely parked.
- Check how the event location is entered. A complete address in Calendar’s location field was recommended in a September 2022 community answer. If the event has no location, or only a vague label, Maps may not have an unambiguous destination to use.
- Use the navigation app’s normal destination controls. In Google Maps, check the documented Recent, Categories, and Saved options. If you need to type an address on the car screen, put the vehicle in Park first.
Community reports from December 2022 and March 2024 describe Calendar destinations not appearing automatically for some users. A different report from March 2024 describes a phone Calendar location tap appearing on the Android Auto display. Taken together, these are examples of different user experiences, not a dependable sequence that every driver can reproduce. They also do not establish differences by phone or car model. There is no basis here to promise that changing a device, vehicle, or navigation app will restore automatic event detection. (December 2022 report; March 2024 report)
If you try the phone handoff, regard it as optional. It may work in a particular setup, but Google’s current navigation instructions describe destination entry by voice and by the car-display navigation app, not a universal phone-to-car Calendar command. If it does not work, switch to the address directly rather than spending time repeating an undocumented handoff while preparing to drive.
Should you use Google Maps or Waze?
Google Maps is the direct fit for the voice and display steps above because those are the navigation controls described in Google’s Android Auto directions. Waze is also an official Android Auto navigation option, with its own voice and display navigation instructions. The reviewed Waze guidance does not say that Waze reads Calendar events or selects the next appointment automatically. Whichever app you prefer, enter or speak the address or venue rather than assuming the app can retrieve the event.

| Google Maps by voice | Ask Android Auto to navigate to the event’s address or venue; confirm the intended result if multiple matches appear. | You know the destination and want hands-free entry. | Google’s instructions document voice navigation, not automatic selection of the next Calendar event. |
| Google Maps on the display | Choose a destination from Recent, Categories, or Saved; type only when the vehicle is in Park. | You want to select a displayed destination or enter one while parked. | The documented destination choices are not described as a Calendar event list. |
| Waze | Use Waze’s voice or display navigation in Android Auto to enter or select the destination. | You prefer Waze as your navigation app. | Google’s Waze instructions do not say that it directly reads or selects Calendar events. |
The choice between Maps and Waze is therefore about which navigation app you want to use and which method suits the situation—not about a verified difference in Calendar handoff reliability. The available instructions support using Waze for Android Auto navigation, but do not establish a direct Calendar-to-Waze event handoff. If your preferred app is Waze, use its supported navigation interface with the event destination ready. If you want the specific Google Maps display choices of Recent, Categories, and Saved, open Maps. (Google’s Waze instructions for Android Auto)

A September 2022 community answer says that Web & App Activity should be enabled, alongside signed-in Calendar and Maps accounts and a full event address, for event destinations to appear in Maps. This is older community guidance, not a currently verified requirement. The official Android Auto navigation instructions reviewed here do not establish Web & App Activity as a requirement for voice navigation or for choosing a destination on the display.
Because Web & App Activity is an account activity and privacy setting, review your Google Account controls before changing it. Do not enable it solely on the assumption that it will make every Calendar event appear in Android Auto. Even the dated community answer does not turn an automatic Calendar suggestion into a guaranteed feature for all users. If the location is absent, the dependable alternative remains entering the address or venue directly. (September 2022 community answer)

- Before setting off, open the Calendar event and confirm that its location field contains a complete address or an identifiable venue name.
- Connect Android Auto and use the microphone to ask for directions: say, “Navigate to” followed by the event destination.
- Check the result and confirm the correct place if Maps offers multiple matches.
- If voice entry is unsuitable, choose a destination in the navigation app’s display interface. Park before typing on the car screen.
- If you expected the event to appear automatically, try the address directly; tapping the event location in Calendar on the phone is another reported, but not guaranteed, option. Do not use the phone while driving.
- If you prefer Waze, use its Android Auto voice or display navigation controls with the address or venue name ready; do not assume it will read the next Calendar event.
This routine uses Android Auto’s documented navigation controls without depending on Calendar auto-detection, whose availability is not established consistently across users. It also gives you a safe fallback: the destination in the event can be entered directly, and any automatic suggestion or phone handoff is a convenience rather than a requirement for completing the route.
What Android Auto does—and does not—document
Google’s navigation help says Android Auto provides voice-guided navigation, estimated arrival times, live traffic information, lane guidance, and more with Google Maps or a compatible navigation app. It explains how to request a destination by voice and how to use the navigation app on the display; for typing on the car screen, the vehicle must be in Park. Those instructions are enough to navigate to a Calendar location once you have its address, but they do not describe a dedicated “next Calendar event” button or a universal Calendar-to-navigation handoff.
This is why a missing suggestion should not be treated as proof that the event is unusable, and a suggestion that appears should not be treated as a feature guaranteed to appear next time. Use the documented destination controls whenever you need a predictable route. The Calendar integration reports are mixed, and there is no supported comparison showing that automatic handoff works more reliably on a particular phone or vehicle model.
