To use Discord voice chat while playing on Xbox, link your Discord and Xbox accounts, then join a Discord channel from the Xbox Guide or transfer the call from Discord on your phone or computer. Discord voice on Xbox and Xbox Party Chat cannot be used at the same time, so you’ll need to choose one for that session.
Before you start
- Link your Discord account to the Xbox profile you plan to use.
- Update the Xbox console to its latest software.
- For a transfer from Discord mobile, install the Xbox app on your phone.
- For a transfer started on Discord desktop, have both the Discord and Xbox mobile apps available to scan and complete the QR-code flow.
Discord is not a standalone app on Xbox. After linking accounts, you access its voice channels through the Xbox Guide or transfer a call from another device, as explained in Discord’s Xbox Connection FAQ.
Join a Discord voice channel from Xbox
- Sign in to the Xbox profile linked to Discord and make sure the console is updated.
- Press the Xbox button to open the Guide.
- Open Parties & chats > Discord Voice.
- Select a Discord server, then choose its voice channel.
This route starts on the console and does not require transferring a call with a QR code.

Transfer a Discord call from your phone
- Link your Discord and Xbox accounts and install the Xbox app on your mobile device.
- In Discord mobile, join the voice channel you want to use.
- Swipe up to open the channel’s audio controls, then choose Join on Xbox.
- In the Xbox app, choose your console and tap Transfer Audio.
You can use Discord’s mobile voice controls to mute or deafen; Discord says those controls are reflected on Xbox.

Transfer a Discord call from desktop
- Link your accounts and install the Discord and Xbox mobile apps on a phone or tablet.
- Join the desired voice channel in Discord desktop.
- In the focused voice channel, select the phone-and-controller icon. Alternatively, right-click the channel name and choose Transfer Voice to Xbox.
- Scan the QR code with your mobile device, then follow the prompts in the Discord mobile app to complete the transfer.
The desktop route starts on your computer, but it still uses the mobile apps to finish connecting to the console.
Can you use Discord and Xbox Party Chat together?
No. Discord says you cannot stay in Xbox Party Chat while using a transferred Discord voice channel on Xbox. Choose the Discord channel or Xbox Party Chat for that session.

Fix common setup problems
The console says it needs an update
Update the Xbox console to its latest software, then try joining or transferring the Discord channel again. Discord identifies an outdated console as a cause of this transfer error.

Discord Voice does not appear or the transfer fails
- If you linked the accounts before Discord Voice became available on Xbox, unlink and link them again.
- Confirm you are signed in to the Xbox profile connected to Discord and that the profile appears online.
- When transferring from a phone, make sure the Xbox app is installed and use it to select the console. For a desktop-started transfer, use the Discord mobile app to scan the QR code and complete the prompts.
Communication outside Xbox is restricted
For communication outside Xbox with voice and text, Discord’s FAQ says Xbox privacy settings should allow Everybody; it also lists Allow for cross-network play. The exact setting labels or availability may vary by account and console interface.

You joined, but the audio has a problem
Discord directs users with audio problems after a transfer to Xbox support. The available guidance does not establish headset-specific settings or troubleshooting steps, so check Xbox support for help with your console’s audio issue.
