AI can help you inspect a Laravel upgrade, find relevant version-specific documentation, and propose code changes. It should not decide whether those changes are safe to ship. For a Laravel 12-to-13 upgrade, use AI to make the work more reviewable, then verify every applicable change against your application, dependencies, and tests.
What AI can—and cannot—do in a Laravel upgrade
Laravel’s first-party Laravel Boost can give AI assistants access to application inspection, Laravel-specific guidance, and documentation search filtered to installed package versions. That context can reduce the risk of relying on stale or deprecated syntax. It cannot prove that an assistant has found every compatibility issue or understood how your application is meant to behave. Laravel’s Boost documentation describes those capabilities; treat them as useful context, not a correctness guarantee.
The Laravel 13 upgrade guide documents a Boost-assisted /upgrade-laravel-v13 command that requires Laravel Boost ^2.0. The guide still lists dependency changes and individual breaking changes, some of which affect only certain applications. Use the command to help work through the guide, not to replace it. Read the Laravel 13 upgrade guide for the transition details.
Why a generated upgrade needs application-specific review
A framework change may be harmless in one project and consequential in another. The deciding details can live in middleware configuration, package constraints, bootstrap timing, deployment settings, or tests—not just in the framework’s default code.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Dependencies and package compatibility
For the 12.x-to-13.0 transition, Laravel’s guide lists updates including the framework to ^13.0, Boost to ^2.0, Tinker to ^3.0, PHPUnit to ^12.0, and Pest to ^4.0, where applicable. These are not a universal command to change every project’s dependencies: check which packages the application actually uses, whether they support the target versions, and their own upgrade instructions. A successful dependency resolution does not by itself establish that runtime behavior is correct.
Request forgery protection
Laravel 13 renames VerifyCsrfToken to PreventRequestForgery and adds request-origin verification using the Sec-Fetch-Site header. The guide notes that deprecated aliases remain, but an application may still have direct references, test exclusions, or custom middleware configuration that needs attention. Ask the assistant to identify those references in your project and explain which ones are actually affected; inspect the resulting diff and relevant tests.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Configuration-dependent defaults
Laravel 13 uses hyphenated suffixes for cache prefixes and session-cookie names. According to the upgrade guide, the impact primarily concerns applications that rely on framework fallback values rather than explicitly configured application-level values. Check the actual configuration and any integrations that depend on those names before accepting a change or deciding it is irrelevant.

Scheduling during application bootstrap
Registration through ApplicationBuilder::withScheduling() is deferred until Schedule resolves. Laravel flags this for applications that rely on immediate registration timing during bootstrap. Review bootstrap assumptions and scheduled-task behavior in the application rather than treating a generated edit as proof that task registration still happens when expected.

- Sleek 7-in-1 USB-C Hub: Features an HDMI port, two USB-A 3.0 ports, and a USB-C data port, each providing 5Gbps transfer speeds. It also includes a USB-C PD input port for charging up to 100W and dual SD and TF card slots, all in a compact design.
- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
These examples are not the full upgrade checklist. Use the guide for the exact source and destination versions, consult upgrade notes for first- and third-party packages, and check the release notes for supported database versions.
A review workflow that keeps the developer in control
- Record the starting point. Identify the Laravel and PHP versions, dependency graph, custom framework integrations, and deployment environment. Check the target release’s requirements and support status against the actual runtime.
- Give the assistant a precise scope. Ask it to work from the official guide for the specific version transition. Require it to separate definite incompatibilities from changes that apply only under particular configuration or behavior.
- Review each proposed edit. Inspect the diff rather than accepting a broad patch. For each change, require an explanation tied to a file, configuration setting, or dependency in your application and to the relevant version-specific guidance. Investigate unsupported assumptions and unexplained edits.
- Validate independently. Run dependency resolution, static checks, and the application’s relevant automated tests in the target environment. Add regression tests for behavior that the upgrade could affect, including any conditional changes relevant to your application.
- Resolve failures before approval. Investigate test failures and behavior that remains uncertain with a developer who understands the application. Approve and deploy only changes that are understood and validated; an AI assistant’s confidence is not evidence that the upgrade is correct.
This standard matches Laravel’s own contribution guidance: “If you choose to use AI tools to assist with your contribution, the resulting code must be thoroughly reviewed, tested, and understood by you before submitting.” The statement appears under the official AI-Generated Contributions guidance. Treat it as a practical bar for upgrade work, not merely a submission formality.

Check Laravel 13’s support and runtime requirements
As listed by Laravel in 2026, Laravel 13 was released on March 17, 2026, supports PHP 8.3–8.5, and is scheduled to receive bug fixes through Q3 2027 and security fixes through March 17, 2028. Laravel states a general policy of 18 months of bug fixes and two years of security fixes per release. Confirm the current Laravel release and support table before planning an upgrade: support dates and compatibility information can change or be clarified. These framework timelines do not estimate the effort or risk for a particular application.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWhen an AI-assisted upgrade is ready to ship
Use the assistant to accelerate investigation and make proposed changes easier to understand. The upgrade is ready for approval only when a responsible developer has checked that the changes apply to this application, reviewed the diffs, and validated behavior with appropriate checks and tests. Laravel documents an AI-assisted path; responsibility for the final decision remains with the people maintaining the app.
