To use a Nespresso Vertuo POP+, fill its tank, insert a Nespresso Vertuo capsule, close and lock the brewing head, set a suitable cup under the outlet, and press the button. Choose the capsule by the drink format you want: the Nespresso US listing gives five nominal sizes, from 1.35 fl oz espresso to 12 fl oz XL. Capsule ranges vary by market, so check the listing and guide for your country.
Choose a capsule size for the drink you want
On Nespresso’s US POP+ listing, the capsule format determines the nominal drink volume. These are listed output sizes, not cup capacities, and the five formats may not all be available in every market or configuration. See Nespresso’s US POP+ listing for the US range.

Pick by intended volume and style, then make sure the cup has room for crema and any milk or ice you plan to add. The manual’s compatibility graphic gives cup-volume examples and marks some combinations as incompatible; it is not simply a matter of putting any size capsule under any cup. Check the Vertuo POP user manual’s compatibility overview. Volume alone does not establish caffeine content or taste intensity.
Use Vertuo capsules, not Original capsules
The POP+ belongs to Nespresso’s Vertuo system and uses Vertuo-family capsules. Original-line capsules are not substitutes. The machine reads capsule information to prepare the corresponding drink format. For local guidance, use the Nespresso POP+ assistance page.

Check your country’s capsule range
The five sizes above are specifically from Nespresso’s US listing, not a universal catalogue. Nespresso’s UAE POP+ listing, for example, describes formats from Ristretto through Mug; other regional listings may include combinations such as XL, Alto, cold coffee, or Carafe. Confirm the format names and available capsules on the local product page and in the manual for your machine.
How to brew a capsule
- Prepare the machine. Fill the water tank and connect the machine to power. For first use, or after a long period without use, follow the setup and rinse instructions on the local POP+ assistance page.
- Insert a capsule. Open the brewing head as shown in the machine guide. Place one fresh Vertuo capsule in the correct orientation, then close and lock the head.
- Position a cup. Put a cup with suitable capacity under the outlet and adjust the cup support as needed, following the guide.
- Start the brew. Press the button and let the cycle finish before opening the head or removing the spent capsule.
- Clear the used capsule. Dispose of or recycle it according to current local Nespresso instructions. Collection options are not established as available everywhere.
Can you change the pour volume?
Yes. The Vertuo POP manual describes programmable cup volumes from 20 ml to 535 ml. Programming is specific to capsule type: insert the type you want to adjust and hold the button until the desired volume is reached. The saved volume then applies to that capsule size. Use the standard capsule setting if you want its intended recipe; a custom pour changes the delivered volume, not capsule compatibility. If the machine’s output has been changed unexpectedly, use the manual’s factory-reset instructions.

Other POP+ features and model details
Nespresso’s US product listing describes Coffee Creations mode for concentrated iced preparations. Availability and the exact button sequence should be confirmed in the local manual. The same US listing gives specifications including 120 V, 60 Hz, 1500 W, a removable 25.4 fl oz tank, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, and a two-minute energy-saving auto-off; these are US-page specifications and should not be assumed for every market.
