To request a new evaluation, place one Diamond in Grandpa’s Shrine in the northwest corner of your farm. Grandpa usually returns the next day. If the new evaluation gives you four candles, interact with the shrine to claim the Statue of Perfection.
How to request a new evaluation
- Go to Grandpa’s Shrine in the northwest corner of your farm.
- Place one Diamond in the shrine to trigger a reassessment.
- Wait for Grandpa’s return. It usually happens the following day, although the event can be delayed until the game is loaded or until the first day of the next season.
The game’s note at the shrine says, “Wait for my return at the dawn of the 3rd year,” as transcribed by the Stardew Valley Wiki. The Diamond requests another check; it does not add points to your evaluation.

How candle scores work
Grandpa’s evaluation is based on milestones, not on how many Diamonds you offer. The Stardew Valley Wiki’s Grandpa page lists 21 possible points and these candle thresholds:

The listed milestones cover categories such as total earnings, Community Center progress, keys, skills, achievements, friendship, marriage, and pet affection. Which goals are most useful depends on your save; check the milestone list against what you have already completed before spending a Diamond on another attempt.

What to do when the candles are lit
At 12 or more points, all four candles light. Interact with Grandpa’s Shrine to receive the Statue of Perfection. The statue produces 2–8 Iridium Ore per day, according to the Grandpa reference page.

The shrine’s candle result and the farmhouse cutscene do not always appear together. The Grandpa page notes that a marriage cutscene can take precedence over the Year 3 evaluation scene on that day, even though the candles still reflect the evaluation. The evaluation scene can play the next time you enter the farmhouse. The page covers game version 1.6; no platform-specific timing differences are established by the cited references.
