Upgrade the weapons you actually use before spreading materials across your collection. Weapon EXP, weapon breakthroughs, duplicate stars, matrix progression, armor enhancement, and character levels are separate investments; prioritize the ones that improve your active loadout and remove its current bottleneck. Exact costs and today’s best farming routes are not established here, so check the live game before committing to a specific amount or build.
Choose an active loadout before spending
Start with the weapons you bring to the content you play. Consider whether your team needs damage, support, shield breaking, or survivability, then focus upgrades on that working loadout rather than leveling every new weapon equally. This is a resource-efficiency recommendation based on the separate upgrade systems, not an official game rule.
For each possible upgrade, ask whether the item is used in your current team, what immediate benefit the spend unlocks, how scarce the material is, whether progress transfers to replacement gear, and how current the supporting information is. A general mechanics guide can explain what an upgrade does, but it cannot establish which weapon or matrix is best for your current build.

Level core weapons and clear their breakthroughs
Weapon Batteries provide weapon EXP, while breakthrough materials are used when a weapon reaches level thresholds, according to the Tower of Fantasy Index guides. The guide describes weapon levels as improving stats. Treat leveling and breakthroughs as linked steps: EXP raises the weapon toward its current limit, and breakthrough materials let it progress beyond a threshold.

The same reference says weapon levels are limited by character level. If the game will not let a weapon progress, check whether character progression is the blocker before spending time collecting more weapon EXP or breakthrough items. The guide is older, so verify current caps, thresholds, and required materials in the live game rather than relying on old level numbers.
Decide whether weapon duplicates are worth using
Duplicates advance a weapon’s stars and may unlock effects; they are not the same as Weapon Batteries or breakthrough materials. Whether a star is worthwhile depends on the weapon, its role in your team, and the effect available in the current game. Avoid treating duplicate copies as a universal priority or spending toward them without checking the effect against your budget and intended loadout.

Evaluate matrices as a separate system
Matrix EXP chips level matrices, while duplicate matrices advance them, according to the Tower of Fantasy Index guides. Matrix set effects make the equipped combination relevant alongside each matrix’s individual level. Consider whether a proposed upgrade improves the set you actually use, rather than treating every matrix level as an isolated gain.

Enhance armor before investing heavily in replaceable pieces
Armor Enhancement and Fusion serve different purposes, according to the Tower of Fantasy Index gear guide. Enhancement raises fixed stats and, in the guide’s description, grants bonuses when equipped pieces reach shared +5 milestones. It also says enhancement levels carry over by equipment slot when armor is replaced.
Fusion adds stars to an individual armor piece and improves its random stats; those stars do not transfer to a replacement piece, according to that guide. If you expect to replace a piece, this difference supports prioritizing transferable slot enhancement over scarce armor EXP spent on its item-specific stars. Because the guide was last updated in 2022, check current in-game behavior before relying on transfer rules or milestone details.

Keep character progression from bottlenecking weapons
Character progression matters to weapon investment because the mechanics references describe character level as a limit on weapon level. Keep your character progression current enough to unlock the weapon levels you are pursuing; otherwise, additional weapon EXP may not help until that gate is cleared. Do not rely on older references for present-day maximum levels.

The Tower of Fantasy Operations Team’s version 6.3 notice announced maintenance for September 15, 2026, and said The Witch’s Key would be added to the permanent Choice Weapons special order and Gray Fox Matrices to the permanent Choice Matrices special order. That notice anchors those availability details to version 6.3; it does not publish upgrade costs, mechanics, or an optimal investment order.

A practical order for allocating materials
- Set your active team: Identify the weapons and matrices you use for your current content and role.
- Level core weapons: Use Weapon Batteries on those weapons, then check the live game for any breakthrough needed at a level threshold.
- Check the character-level gate: If a weapon cannot advance, confirm whether character progression is limiting it before gathering more weapon materials.
- Review duplicate effects: Spend weapon or matrix duplicates only after checking the specific star effect and its value to your build.
- Improve matrix combinations: Consider both matrix levels and the set effect of the equipped combination.
- Enhance armor with replacement in mind: Confirm current transfer rules, then weigh transferable enhancement against item-specific fusion stars.
These steps are a decision framework, not a guaranteed optimum for every account. The right next spend depends on your active gear, available materials, current in-game thresholds, and the content you want to clear.
