To use Apple services in a new country, change your Apple Account country or region—not just the street address on an old card. On an iPhone, iPad or Apple Vision Pro, go to Settings > [your name] > Media & Purchases > Country/Region, choose the destination, accept its terms, and enter a payment method and billing address for that location when Apple requests them. You can make the same change from Apple Music or Apple TV on a Mac or Windows PC, or from account.apple.com.
Apple may require a payment method accepted in the destination country. Before starting, clear your account balance, subscriptions, pending transactions and Family Sharing restrictions, because any of these can prevent the move.
What changes when you move your Apple Account to another country?
Your Apple Account (the current name for what many people still call an Apple ID) is tied to a storefront country or region. That storefront controls which apps, media, subscriptions, payment methods, taxes and prices are available. Editing the billing address on an existing card does not, by itself, move the account to a different storefront.
The country or region change is an account-level process. During it, Apple asks you to select the destination, agree to its terms and, where required, supply a locally eligible payment method and billing address. Accepted payment types differ by country and by financial institution, so an existing card may be rejected even if it works in your former country.

Apple’s screens and button labels can vary by operating-system version and by the language or regional support page you use. The sequence below describes Apple’s documented paths; follow the wording shown on your device.
Complete these checks before changing country or region
Resolve the following items before opening the Country/Region setting. They are the most common reasons Apple refuses to continue.
Use or clear your remaining Apple Account balance
Spend any balance on the account before changing regions. Apple lists a remaining balance as a prerequisite. If the amount is less than the price of one App Store or Apple-services item, you may not be able to spend it normally; Apple directs you to contact Support to clear that residual amount.

Cancel subscriptions that block the move
Cancel subscriptions that prevent a country change and wait until the current subscription period has ended. Do not assume that a subscription automatically transfers or remains active after the move. Services such as Apple One or iCloud+ can be subscribed to again in the new storefront if they are offered there, but availability and terms can differ.
Finish pending purchases and refunds
Wait for memberships, pre-orders, movie rentals, Season Passes and store-credit refunds to finish processing. A pre-order may be cancellable if you need to remove the block, but an unresolved transaction generally has to complete first.
Leave Family Sharing when necessary
Being a member of a Family Sharing group can prevent a country or region change. If the account is in a group, review the Family Sharing settings and leave the group when Apple’s instructions require it. Leaving can affect shared purchases and services, so make sure every family member understands the consequence before you proceed.
Download content that might disappear from the destination storefront
Before switching, download important apps, music, films, television programmes and books to the devices on which you plan to use them. A title available in one storefront may not be available for redownload in another. Local licensing and catalogues determine what you can access after the move.

Prepare a destination-country payment method
Check which payment methods Apple accepts in the new country or region. Have the account holder’s name, billing address and other requested details ready exactly as they appear in the financial institution’s records. A card that is valid in your old country is not guaranteed to qualify in the new one.
Change the country and enter new payment details on iPhone, iPad or Apple Vision Pro
- Open Settings.
- Tap your name at the top of the screen.
- Tap Media & Purchases, then choose Country/Region.
- Select the country or region where you now live or intend to use the storefront.
- Read the destination terms and tap the on-screen control to continue and agree.
- When prompted, select an accepted payment method for that country.
- Enter the new payment information and billing address. Use the exact spelling and format held by your bank or other payment provider.
- Submit the change and wait for the storefront to refresh. Open the App Store or another Apple media app afterward to confirm that the destination storefront is displayed.
Apple can request additional verification, such as a bank authentication step. Complete it in the financial institution’s app, website or verification screen rather than repeatedly resubmitting the same details.
Change it from a Mac or Windows PC
Apple documents the computer route through the Apple Music or Apple TV app. The labels differ slightly between macOS and Windows.
Mac
- Open the Apple Music or Apple TV app.
- Use the Account menu to open your account settings.
- Choose the option to change the country or region.
- Select the destination, review and accept its terms, then continue.
- Enter the requested destination payment method and billing address.
Windows PC
- Open the Apple Music or Apple TV app.
- In the app sidebar, select your name to open the account view.
- Choose the country or region change option.
- Select the destination and accept its terms.
- Enter the new payment information and billing address when prompted.
The same eligibility rules apply on both computers: an unresolved balance, subscription, pending transaction or Family Sharing relationship can stop the process.

- Sign in at account.apple.com.
- Open Personal Information.
- Select Country/Region.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to select the new location, accept its terms and supply payment and billing information if requested.
If the web page sends you back to a device or asks for verification, complete that request. The account setting, rather than the browser you use, determines the storefront.
Payment method and billing-address rules
The payment method must be eligible for the destination
Payment-method eligibility is country-specific. Apple does not promise that a card, bank account or other method accepted in your former storefront will work after the move. Check the accepted-method guidance for the destination and use a method issued or supported there when required.
Make every billing field match your financial records
Enter the account holder’s name, street address, postal code, phone details and any other fields exactly as the financial institution records them. Differences in abbreviations, apartment formatting, postal-code spacing or a recently changed address can trigger a decline. If your bank has not updated its records, update them there first or ask the bank which address format it expects.

Do not confuse a billing update with a storefront move
If you are staying in the same country and only need to replace an expired card or correct an address, use the normal payment-method controls. A move to another country requires the Country/Region change described above; changing the old card’s address alone leaves the Apple storefront unchanged.

Your bank may require a one-time verification or authorization before Apple can save the method. Approve that request through the bank’s official channel. A successful verification does not override a country restriction: the method still has to be accepted in the destination storefront.
Why Apple will not let you change the country or region
Work through these checks in order. Each addresses a separate blocker.
There is still account balance
Return to your account balance and spend it. If only a small remainder is left—less than the cost of a single eligible item—contact Apple Support and ask for the balance to be cleared. Do not create a second account merely to avoid a few remaining cents; the cited Apple procedure does not say that balances transfer.
A subscription has not ended
Open your subscriptions, cancel the blocking service and check its end date. Cancellation usually stops renewal but does not end the paid period immediately, so wait until the listed date has passed. After the move, check whether the service is offered in the new storefront and resubscribe there if necessary.
A purchase, rental, pre-order or refund is pending
Review purchase history and account activity. Let memberships, rentals, Season Passes and refunds complete. If a pre-order is the obstruction, cancel it where Apple provides that option, then retry after the cancellation posts.
Family Sharing is active
Check whether the account belongs to a Family Sharing group or uses purchase sharing. Leave the group if required by Apple’s country-change flow, and verify that you understand which shared purchases or subscriptions will no longer be available to you.

The payment method was declined
- Confirm that the selected payment type is accepted in the destination country.
- Check the name and billing address character by character against the financial institution’s records.
- Make sure the account itself is already set to the intended country. Apple notes that a method accepted for a different region may fail while the account remains on the old storefront.
- Complete any bank verification request.
- If the method still fails, ask the financial institution whether it permits international or digital-store transactions and whether the billing address has been updated.
The account is still associated with the old storefront
Changing a card’s address or adding a second card does not switch the storefront. Return to Country/Region and complete the region-change flow first; then add or replace payment details for that storefront.

Subscriptions
Do not assume continuity. Apple specifically warns that subscriptions can block a change, and services may need to be purchased again in the new location. Check each service after the storefront updates, including iCloud+ and Apple One where offered.

Catalogues are governed by the destination storefront. Content you downloaded before moving may remain on a device, but a title that is not licensed in the new region might not be available for a future download. That is why Apple recommends downloading important apps, music, films, television and books in advance.
Balance and transaction history
Clear the old balance before changing regions. The instructions for creating a new account do not state that purchase history, balance or subscriptions transfer to that new account, so treat a new account as separate.
Alternative: create a new Apple Account after you arrive
Apple describes an option for people who do not want to enter a payment method during the change: wait until you are physically in the new country or region, then create a new Apple Account. This is not a shortcut that merges accounts. Apple’s guidance does not say that the original account’s purchases, balance or subscriptions move to the new one.
Use this option only after considering which account owns your purchases and subscriptions. If you need to retain access to the original account’s history, resolve its blockers and change its country or region instead.
Which device path should you use?

These are different interfaces for the same account-level action. Choose the device you can authenticate reliably; switching devices does not bypass an account blocker.
A practical moving-country checklist
- Record the destination storefront and confirm that you are actually moving your account, not merely changing a card address.
- Spend the remaining Apple Account balance or arrange Support assistance for a small remainder.
- Cancel blocking subscriptions and wait for their end dates.
- Resolve pre-orders, rentals, Season Passes, memberships and pending refunds.
- Leave Family Sharing if it prevents the change.
- Download important apps and media that might not be available in the destination.
- Confirm an accepted destination payment method with the issuing institution.
- Prepare a billing address that exactly matches the institution’s records.
- Run the Country/Region flow on your iPhone, iPad, Apple Vision Pro, Mac, Windows PC or at account.apple.com.
- Complete bank verification and check the new storefront and subscriptions afterward.
When to contact Apple or your financial institution
Contact Apple when a residual balance is too small to spend, a completed cancellation or refund still appears as pending, or the Country/Region control remains blocked after every listed prerequisite is satisfied. Contact your financial institution when the payment method is declined despite being eligible for the destination, the billing address has recently changed, or a verification request never arrives. Have the exact error message, destination country, account email and transaction status available, but do not share full card numbers or security codes.
