In Modern Warfare II (MWII, 2022) and Modern Warfare III (MWIII, 2023), mastery camos are unlocked through separate Multiplayer progressions. MWII’s sequence is Gold, Platinum, Polyatomic, then Orion; MWIII’s is Gilded, Forged, Priceless, then Interstellar. The official instructions define these as Multiplayer challenges—not as standard Warzone or DMZ challenges—so check the in-game challenge text before planning to grind them in those modes.
Choose the progression for your game

These are distinct ladders, not alternate names for the same set. Each camo also has a weapon-specific challenge, and the relevant category or total-challenge threshold must be met before that challenge can complete. Activision’s MWIII Weapons and Camo Leveling (Mastery) guide documents both Multiplayer sets.
Unlock MWII Multiplayer mastery camos
For each weapon, complete its base camo challenges before starting its completionist camo challenges. The camo-specific tasks below are cumulative with the ladder’s broader unlock thresholds.

Gold
- Complete all base camo challenges for the weapon.
- Get 3 kills without dying 10 times with that weapon.
Platinum
- Complete the weapon’s Gold challenge.
- Meet the additional Gold-challenge requirement for its weapon category. The number of Gold challenges needed varies by category.
- Get 25 longshot kills with the weapon.
Polyatomic
- Complete the weapon’s Platinum challenge.
- Unlock 51 Platinum challenges across MWII weapons.
- Get 25 headshot kills with the weapon.
Orion
Unlock 51 Polyatomic challenges across MWII weapons. Activision’s MWII Launch Progression Overview, published October 26, 2022, describes Orion as available after Polyatomic has been unlocked on at least 51 weapons; this is a minimum threshold, not a requirement to finish every launch weapon.

Unlock MWIII Multiplayer mastery camos
MWIII also requires base camo challenges before the completionist stages. The task for each weapon can differ, so use the challenge displayed for the weapon you are leveling rather than assuming one example applies to every gun.
Gilded
Complete all base camo challenges for the weapon, then complete its Gilded challenge. For example, Activision’s guide gives the MCW task as 2 Operator kills with one magazine 10 times; that is an MCW example, not a universal requirement.

Forged
Complete the weapon’s Gilded-stage challenge, meet the additional category-level requirement for Gold/Gilded challenges, and complete its Forged task. The category threshold and individual weapon task vary; the guide’s example task is 3 kills without dying 10 times.
Priceless
Complete that weapon’s Forged challenge and unlock 36 Forged challenges across MWIII weapons.

Interstellar
Unlock 36 Priceless challenges across MWIII weapons.
Warzone and DMZ: what is and is not established
The official instructions identify the Gold/Platinum/Polyatomic/Orion and Gilded/Forged/Priceless/Interstellar sets as Multiplayer completionist camos. They do not establish that the standard MWII or MWIII mastery challenges currently progress in Warzone or DMZ. Do not assume a kill in either mode counts toward a Multiplayer requirement; inspect the in-game challenge description for the specific weapon and mode.

Warzone and DMZ have also had separate event-camo objectives. For example, Activision’s Season 05 Reloaded content page, published August 2023, describes event camo challenges and labels an Armored Truck task “DMZ Only.” That is an event-specific objective, not confirmation that the standard mastery ladder tracks in DMZ.

Continue MWII camo progress in MWIII
MWII weapon camos, completionist camos, and mastery challenges carry forward into MWIII, so you can continue unfinished MWII unlocks there. However, MWII’s Gold, Platinum, Polyatomic, and Orion completionist camos remain tied to the corresponding MWII weapons: they cannot be equipped on MWIII weapons. Activision’s November 2023 cosmetic customization and unlocks guide describes the carry-forward rules.

Weapon Mastery rewards are separate from unlocking camos
In MWII, unlocking a completionist camo is not the end of that weapon’s progression. The separate Weapon Mastery challenges require kills while the camo is equipped. Activision’s 2022 progression overview lists these requirements:

Each corresponding challenge awards a Calling Card and Emblem. Completing all four Weapon Mastery challenges for a weapon unlocks that weapon’s charm. These are extra rewards, not prerequisites for unlocking the camos themselves.
