You can use Samsung Wallet as a digital key on select Cadillac LYRIQ, OPTIQ and VISTIQ models in the United States and Canada. To set it up, enroll through the myCadillac app while you are in the vehicle with its physical key fob. After pairing, keep your phone with you: the GM experience uses proximity-based access, and you start the vehicle with its normal start control.
The feature began rolling out in phases in October 2026, so a listed model year does not guarantee it is enabled on every vehicle. Check your vehicle app and confirm your exact phone and software against Cadillac’s current digital-key support page.
Which GM vehicles and Samsung phones work?
Samsung Electronics America announced the feature for Samsung Wallet users in the United States and Canada on October 6, 2026. The initial vehicle range is select 2025–2027 Cadillac LYRIQ, 2026–2027 OPTIQ, and 2027 VISTIQ models. General Motors says availability is phased and that the vehicle app will notify owners when the feature is available; eligibility by model year alone does not mean every trim or configuration is ready. Cadillac’s detailed compatibility page gives a more specific UWB device list, excludes A and FE devices, and lists Android 16 as the current software requirement. Because device support can change, check the exact model and OS version on Cadillac’s compatibility page and in your vehicle app before pairing.

You also need an OnStar account, the latest myCadillac app, and the physical key fob nearby during enrollment. Accept the OnStar terms if the app asks you to.
Add the GM digital key to Samsung Wallet
- Install or update the myCadillac app, then sign in to the OnStar account associated with the vehicle. Accept the OnStar terms if prompted.
- In the app, select Add key to device Wallet. If you do not see that option, open More > Vehicle Settings > Keys > Add key. On some vehicles, Vehicle Settings is under a gear icon.
- Turn on Bluetooth. Put your phone and the vehicle’s physical key fob inside the vehicle, switch the vehicle on, select Park, and close the doors.
- Follow the prompts on the phone and in the vehicle to pair the key. When setup finishes, check that the key appears in Samsung Wallet.
- Test the digital key with the fob absent: leave the vehicle and try locking, unlocking, or starting it, following the prompts for your model.
GM’s general enrollment guidance is to sign in to the vehicle’s mobile app and follow its prompts while inside the OnStar-connected vehicle with the physical fob nearby. The app and vehicle prompts are the authority for the specific model; Cadillac also documents the steps on its digital-key support page.

Unlock and start the vehicle
Keep the paired phone with you and approach the vehicle for passive entry. GM describes UWB as the technology used for secure proximity authentication: the vehicle can unlock as you approach and lock as you walk away. Bluetooth supports connected controls. Once inside, use the vehicle’s normal start control with the digital-key-enabled phone present; Cadillac says the digital key supports starting as well as passive entry.
Wallet controls such as trunk or climate commands may also be available, depending on the vehicle and Wallet support. A Wallet remote-start command is not the same as starting the vehicle to drive: Cadillac says remote start requires a factory-installed and enabled remote-start system. Do not follow generic Samsung NFC instructions for other automakers—such as tapping the phone at the door and placing it on a charging pad to start—for this GM UWB flow. Samsung’s general Wallet documentation describes NFC-based keys for other makes, not the GM process here: Samsung Wallet digital-key support.
Share access, and prepare for a lost phone or backup need
Sharing capacity is vehicle-specific. GM’s broad launch announcement says a key can be shared with up to seven additional devices; the 2027 VISTIQ owner manual instead specifies sharing with up to three additional people across eight total devices. Use the sharing options shown for your own vehicle rather than assuming one limit applies to every model. GM’s guidance is in its rollout announcement; the VISTIQ instructions are in the 2027 Cadillac VISTIQ Owner Manual.

An account owner can remove access through the vehicle or Wallet, and OnStar can deactivate a key if a device is lost or stolen. Samsung also says Wallet keys can be suspended or deleted remotely through Samsung Find on a computer; see Samsung’s announcement.

If supplied, it can serve as a backup when the phone battery is weak or signal interference prevents recognition. The manual says not to put the card on the wireless charger; a replacement must be purchased and programmed through a dealer. Whether a key card is supplied depends on the vehicle. Consult the VISTIQ manual or your model’s owner manual for its backup options.

If the vehicle does not recognize the digital key
The 2027 VISTIQ manual recommends checking the phone and signal path first:
- Make sure the phone is on and charged, Bluetooth is enabled, and the phone is close enough to the vehicle.
- Move objects out of the way and avoid blocking the signal with your body.
- Try turning Bluetooth off and back on, and keep the phone’s operating system current.
- If the digital key still is not recognized, use the conventional fob or supplied key card if available, then consult the owner manual for that exact vehicle.
These troubleshooting directions are from the 2027 Cadillac VISTIQ Owner Manual; controls and backup equipment may differ on other models.
