“Unlocking” a Samsung Galaxy A51 can mean two different things: removing a carrier restriction so another carrier’s SIM can work, or recovering access after forgetting the screen PIN, pattern, or password. For a SIM network unlock prompt, contact the carrier the phone is locked to. For a forgotten screen lock, use an available account-linked recovery option or consider a factory reset, which erases local data.
First, identify which lock is stopping you
| What you see | What it means | Where to start |
|---|---|---|
| A prompt for a SIM network unlock PIN or code after inserting another carrier’s SIM | The phone may have a carrier or network restriction. | Contact the original carrier; Samsung says the provider controls the network lock. |
| The phone asks for the screen PIN, pattern, or password and you cannot remember it | This is the device’s screen lock, a separate security feature. | Check for an account-linked recovery option, or review reset consequences before proceeding. |
A carrier unlock does not remove a screen lock, and resetting the screen lock is not a carrier unlock. Samsung’s Galaxy A51 5G support page addresses the case where a new SIM asks for a PIN or unlock code. Samsung’s network-lock guidance identifies this as a provider-controlled NCK or network lock.
How to unlock a Galaxy A51 for another carrier
1. Check the phone’s original carrier and exact model
Start with the carrier that sold, financed, or originally activated the A51, not the carrier whose SIM you are trying to use. Find the exact model number in the phone’s settings, on its label or packaging, or in the purchase record. The Galaxy A51 name covers multiple variants, so the model number matters for both the carrier’s unlock process and compatibility with a new network.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2. Request the unlock from the original carrier
Samsung says the provider assigns and manages the NCK/network lock, so contact that provider to check eligibility and ask for the required unlock process or code. Do not guess codes or rely on an unverified third-party code seller. The carrier can review account-specific details such as purchase or activation history, payment status, and whether the device has been reported lost, stolen, or involved in fraud.

3. Follow the carrier’s current eligibility rules
There is no universal waiting period or automatic entitlement that applies to every A51. Rules differ by carrier and can depend on whether the phone is prepaid or postpaid, when and how it was bought, payment status, and other conditions.
| Carrier example | What its published guidance says | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| AT&T | Eligible Apple, Samsung, or Google devices that meet AT&T’s requirements should unlock automatically. AT&T’s guidance also describes checking status with a non-AT&T SIM. | Review AT&T’s device-unlock guidance and follow its eligibility and troubleshooting steps. |
| Verizon | Verizon’s policy effective January 27, 2026, distinguishes prepaid and postpaid devices. The policy page, updated February 18, 2026, says prepaid devices are unlocked after 365 days of paid, active service, subject to its conditions; postpaid treatment depends on purchase and payment circumstances. | Check Verizon’s current Device Unlocking Policies if Verizon is the original carrier. These rules are Verizon-specific, not a general A51 rule. |
Carriers may change their policies. If the phone was bought through a retailer or used, tell the original carrier the device’s history and ask what proof or account information it needs.

4. Use the model-specific menu only if your A51 has it
A manual for the carrier models SM-A516U and SM-A716U documents this path: Settings > Connections > More connection settings > Network unlock. It includes status and permanent or temporary request options. That menu is not established for every A51 variant; if it is absent, do not assume the phone cannot be unlocked. Ask the original carrier for the correct steps for your exact model. The manual is available as the Samsung Galaxy A51|A71 5G A516U|A716U User Manual.

After the carrier confirms that the restriction is removed, insert the destination carrier’s SIM and follow any on-screen prompts. An unlocked phone is not guaranteed to provide full service on every network. Verizon notes that differences in network technologies can mean limited functionality or incompatibility. Check the destination carrier’s compatibility information against the A51’s exact model variant and confirm the services and features you need are supported.

If you forgot the A51’s screen PIN or pattern
Screen-lock recovery is separate from carrier unlocking. In a Samsung Members Community response dated January 13, 2026, a Samsung Community Manager said a screen lock cannot be bypassed for security and privacy reasons. The response described account-based remote unlocking where available and a factory reset through recovery as a fallback. Availability can depend on the device, account, and region; consult current Samsung support for your model before acting.
- Check for account-linked recovery: Use it only if an option is available for your phone and the account associated with it.
- Check backups before resetting: Samsung Community’s A51 guidance warns that a factory reset erases device data and that data not backed up cannot be recovered.
- Confirm account access: Before a reset, make sure you can access the Google or Samsung account previously associated with the device. Account verification may be required after the reset.
Samsung Community’s A51-specific guidance is in the post “I forget pattern to open my Samsung Galaxy A 51”. Because it is a community support response rather than a formal manual, verify the current recovery options with Samsung for your region and model.
