If you forgot your LG phone’s screen PIN, pattern, or password, first check whether that exact model offers a supported recovery option. If it does not, Google’s current guidance is to erase the phone and set it up again; a factory reset removes local data and does not simply bypass the lock while preserving files.

Confirm what kind of lock you’re dealing with

This guide is for a screen lock: a PIN, password, pattern, or similar code used to open the phone. It does not provide a way to bypass a carrier or SIM network lock, a Google Account sign-in requirement, or an employer’s device-management policy. If the phone belongs to someone else or is managed by an organization, the owner or administrator should handle access.

If you can identify the model and Android version, do so before choosing a recovery method. LG manuals and reset procedures vary by model and age, so instructions for one phone may not work for another.

Try recovery options that preserve data

If you believe you know the screen lock, enter it carefully. Avoid repeated guesses if the phone warns that further attempts may cause a lockout or data deletion. Then consult the manual for the exact model to see whether it documents a backup PIN or a “Forgot” recovery option.

Some older LG manuals describe recovery using the Google Account on the phone or a backup PIN. For example, the LG VS876 guide documents a “Forgot” flow with those options, but this is not a universal feature. Google’s forgotten-pattern instructions apply only to Android 4.4 or lower; do not assume a current LG phone can be unlocked with an account prompt. See the LG VS876 guide’s screen-lock instructions and Google’s current guidance for a phone you can’t unlock.

Choose a reset method only if you accept data loss

Google’s current guidance is that if you can’t unlock an Android phone, you’ll need to erase it and set it up again. The available routes include remote erasure when the phone meets Find Hub requirements, or a button-based reset using instructions for the exact model. Either way, a reset deletes data stored locally on the phone.

Some backed-up content may be restored during setup, but the result depends on whether a backup exists, the device and Android version, and the app. Not every app restores all of its data. Google explains these limits in its Android backup and restore guidance.

Before you erase the phone

  • Confirm the Google Account username and password that were previously used on the phone, and verify that you can sign in to that account elsewhere. Google says the account password is needed to use the phone after an eligible Find Hub erase.
  • If you recently changed the Google Account password, Google recommends waiting 24 hours before performing a factory reset.
  • Check whether important content is backed up. A factory reset is not a way to retrieve data that exists only in the phone’s internal storage.

Google’s factory-reset guidance covers account preparation and the 24-hour recommendation.

Remote erase with Find Hub

Find Hub can erase an eligible phone remotely, but it does not remove the screen lock while keeping the phone’s local files. Google lists these prerequisites: the phone must be powered on and connected to the internet, associated with a Google Account, have Find Hub turned on, and be visible on Google Play. After erasure, you’ll need the Google Account password to use the phone again. Review Google’s Find Hub instructions before choosing this route.

Button-based factory reset

Use the reset instructions for the exact LG model—not a sequence copied from a different phone. As one model-specific example, the LG VS876 manual says to power off the device, hold Volume Down and Power/Lock, then use the volume keys to navigate the recovery screen and Power/Lock to confirm the factory data reset. LG warns that this deletes user data in internal memory, including pictures, videos, and music. Those button instructions are for the VS876 only; follow the VS876 manual or the official instructions for your own model.

If you can’t identify the model or complete setup

If the phone’s model is unclear, its buttons do not open recovery, or setup remains blocked after a reset, contact official LG support or a reputable authorized repair provider and be prepared to show proof of ownership. Avoid third-party claims that a tool can unlock the phone without data loss unless there is verifiable, official support for that exact model and situation.
