To undo or redo a recent iPadOS 27 Home Screen edit, enter Home Screen edit mode and tap the active curved-arrow undo or redo control. A June 22, 2026 walkthrough from iDownloadBlog reports that the controls can reverse basic changes such as moving apps or widgets, customizing icons, and hiding or showing pages. Apple’s documented Reset Home Screen Layout is a broader fallback, not a single-edit undo: it removes folders you created and rearranges downloaded apps alphabetically.
How do I undo a Home Screen change on my iPad?
-
Go to the Home Screen and touch and hold its background until the icons begin to jiggle. This is Apple’s documented way to start editing the Home Screen.
-
Make the change you want, such as moving an app or widget. To move an item to another page, drag it to the screen edge and pause until the next page appears. Tap Done when you finish editing.

The arrow controls are reported in a secondary walkthrough; Apple’s surfaced guide documents editing and resetting the layout, but does not confirm these iPadOS 27 controls. The walkthrough reports support for basic app and widget moves, icon customization, and showing or hiding Home Screen pages. It does not establish how many edits the controls remember, whether that history persists after a restart, or that every kind of change can be reversed.
Can I get an app or widget back where it was?
If the move is still available to undo, use the undo arrow in edit mode rather than rearranging the page by hand. Apple documents that apps and widgets can be moved elsewhere on the same page or to another Home Screen page. If you want to move an item manually, touch and hold it until the icons jiggle, drag it to the desired location, and pause at the screen edge if you need another page to appear.

What if undo or redo does not restore the layout?
Apple documents a broader reset option at Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Reset > Reset Home Screen Layout. Use it only if you are willing to rebuild your arrangement: Apple says folders you created are removed, and downloaded apps are arranged alphabetically after the apps that came with the iPad. This resets the overall layout; it is not an equivalent replacement for undoing one recent edit.
