To turn on Wi-Fi on a Gateway laptop running Windows 11, select the Network, Sound, or Battery icons on the right side of the taskbar, then turn on the Wi-Fi control in Quick Settings. Select Manage Wi-Fi connections, choose your network, select Connect, and enter its password. Gateway function keys vary by model, so use the laptop’s manual if the Windows control is unavailable.
Turn on Wi-Fi and connect in Quick Settings
- Open Quick Settings: Select the Network, Sound, or Battery icons on the right side of the Windows 11 taskbar.
- Enable Wi-Fi: Select the Wi-Fi control if it is off. If the control is missing, continue to the checks below rather than assuming a particular Gateway keyboard shortcut.
- Choose a network: Select Manage Wi-Fi connections, choose a network you recognize, and select Connect. Refresh the network list if the network does not appear.
- Enter the password: Type the network password and select Next.
Microsoft documents this Quick Settings connection route in its instructions for connecting to a Wi-Fi network in Windows.
If the Wi-Fi control is missing or will not turn on
Check Airplane mode and Wi-Fi separately
In Quick Settings, check that Airplane mode is off. You can also go to Settings > Network & internet > Airplane mode. Windows remembers the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth states that were in effect when Airplane mode was enabled, so after turning Airplane mode off, check the Wi-Fi control itself as well. Check the wireless key or physical switch for your exact model
Look for a wireless or radio symbol on the keyboard, then check the manual for your exact Gateway model to confirm the correct key combination and whether the laptop has a physical wireless switch. Do not assume Fn+F2 or Fn+F4 works on every Gateway: the GWTN156-2 manual describes Fn+F4 as toggling all radios, while an older Gateway notebook reference guide describes Fn+F2 for its wireless radio and says the physical wireless switch must be on. These are model-specific examples, not universal shortcuts. Gateway’s Guides & Manuals and support resources can help you find model-specific information.

Check whether Windows sees a wireless adapter
Open Device Manager, expand Network adapters, and look for a wireless adapter. A wireless adapter is required to connect, although most laptops and tablets include one. Microsoft’s wireless network setup guidance explains the adapter requirement.
Run the Windows network troubleshooter
Use the Network and Internet troubleshooter through the Get Help app. Microsoft’s Wi-Fi troubleshooting guidance covers this and other first-line checks.

If Wi-Fi is enabled but your network is not listed
- Refresh the available network list and confirm you selected the correct network name.
- Check that you have the correct network password.
- Try another trusted network, or another available Wi-Fi band if your router broadcasts more than one.
- If the Gateway can see other networks but not the one you expect, the issue may be specific to that network rather than the laptop’s Wi-Fi control.
When to contact Gateway support
If the laptop still has no Wi-Fi control or its wireless adapter remains unavailable after checking Airplane mode, the model-specific radio control, and the adapter and driver information, consult the correct model’s support material or contact Gateway support or a qualified repair provider. Gateway’s support portal includes a repair-services category; service availability depends on the device and location. Avoid installing drivers from unrelated download sites.
