To turn on Wi-Fi Calling on a supported Samsung Galaxy, connect to Wi-Fi, then open Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi Calling and switch it on. You need active carrier service on a SIM or eSIM, and your carrier must support and enable the feature for your phone. Menu names and availability vary by model, software, country, and carrier.
What Wi-Fi Calling does—and what you need
Wi-Fi Calling routes calls through your carrier over a Wi-Fi connection. It can help when cellular coverage is weak or unavailable; Samsung’s US and UK guidance also describes messaging over Wi-Fi. The feature is not a standalone internet-calling app: your Galaxy, carrier, and account must support it.
- Active service is required. A supported, active SIM or eSIM is needed to enable the feature.
- Cellular signal is not necessarily needed during the call. Samsung Canada says an active mobile-network connection is not required once Wi-Fi Calling is set up, provided the other requirements are met.
- Wi-Fi quality matters. Samsung says a strong connection is necessary. A weak or unstable Wi-Fi link can prevent calls from working well even when the feature is enabled.
Samsung cautions that Wi-Fi Calling may not be available on all carriers or devices. Confirm eligibility with your carrier, particularly if you are outside the US, UK, Canada, or Mexico; those regions are covered by the Samsung guidance cited here, not every market or plan.
How do I turn on Wi-Fi Calling on my Samsung Galaxy?
- Connect your phone to a Wi-Fi network.
- Open Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi Calling.
- Switch Wi-Fi Calling on. If your carrier or phone asks for emergency address or contact details, enter and save them.
- Place a call using the normal Phone app and dialing process. If you see a calling preference, select the option that suits your coverage needs.
Samsung US says active service through a SIM card or eSIM is required at activation. The precise prompts and controls depend on the device and carrier. Samsung’s US guide says an emergency address can be updated later in Wi-Fi Calling settings; Samsung UK also advises updating emergency information when needed.

Where else might the setting appear?
If Settings > Connections does not show Wi-Fi Calling, look in the Phone app’s settings or the Quick Settings panel. On some Galaxy versions, the route is Phone > More options (three dots) > Settings. These alternatives are documented in Samsung UK and Mexico guidance; the exact path can differ across software versions and carriers.
A missing control does not by itself mean the phone is broken. The carrier may not support Wi-Fi Calling on that model, or it may need to enable the service on your account. Samsung UK advises contacting the carrier if the option is absent.

Choosing a calling preference
Some carriers expose a preference for which connection the phone should try first. Samsung documents options such as Wi-Fi preferred and Mobile network preferred; when the preferred connection is unavailable, the other may be used as a fallback. Not every carrier offers both options, and labels can vary.

Use only the controls actually shown on your Galaxy. Ask your carrier about roaming, charges, and local emergency-call behavior before relying on Wi-Fi Calling away from home; these details depend on carrier and jurisdiction.

Why can’t I see Wi-Fi Calling on my Samsung phone?
- Carrier or account support is missing. The carrier must support the feature for your device and activate it for your account. Ask the carrier to check both eligibility and provisioning.
- Your service is not active. Confirm that the SIM is inserted or the eSIM is active and that the mobile account has service.
- The menu is elsewhere. Check Phone settings and Quick Settings as well as the main Connections menu.
- A carrier-specific requirement applies. As a US-specific example, Samsung says AT&T phones need VoLTE enabled to activate Wi-Fi Calling. This is not a universal requirement; confirm your own carrier’s instructions.
Why is Wi-Fi Calling not working?
Work through eligibility and connection quality separately. A stronger Wi-Fi signal cannot make an unsupported phone eligible, and carrier account changes will not fix an unstable home connection.
- Check Wi-Fi first. Confirm the Galaxy is connected to the intended network and that the connection is stable. Samsung identifies a strong connection as necessary.
- Confirm active mobile service. Check that the SIM or eSIM and account are active. Once Wi-Fi Calling is configured, cellular bars may not be required for the call, according to Samsung Canada.
- Verify carrier support and provisioning. Ask whether Wi-Fi Calling is enabled for your specific device and account, and whether any carrier-specific requirements apply.
- Check prompts and software support. Complete emergency-address information if requested, and confirm that your device and software support the feature.
- Reconnect to Wi-Fi if other network problems are present. Samsung Canada suggests toggling Wi-Fi or forgetting and reconnecting to the saved network. Restarting the router is another general connectivity step.
- Reset Wi-Fi settings only as a later step. Samsung Canada includes this option for persistent connection issues. A reset can mean setting up saved Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections again, so try simpler steps first.
- Contact the carrier if calls still fail. Ask it to verify device eligibility, account provisioning, and local requirements. Samsung US and UK direct unresolved Wi-Fi Calling issues to the carrier.
Emergency details and regional differences
Enter an emergency address when your phone requests it, and keep that information current. Emergency-call handling, roaming behavior, and possible charges are not uniform; check the rules that apply to your carrier, plan, and location rather than assuming Wi-Fi Calling works identically everywhere.
