The button depends on your Beats model: on Beats Studio Buds+, press and hold the button above the “b” logo on either earbud; on Beats Studio Pro, press the system button twice. Both controls switch between Noise Cancellation and Transparency, and a tone confirms the change. You can also choose Noise Cancellation from your connected device’s listening-mode controls.
Turn on noise cancelling with the Beats controls
First, put on your Beats and make sure they are connected to your Apple or Android device. Then use the instructions for your exact model.
Beats Studio Buds+
- Press and hold the button above the “b” logo on either earbud.
- Listen for the tone confirming that the listening mode changed. If the earbuds switch to Transparency, press and hold again to switch to Noise Cancellation.
The button switches between Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and Transparency by default. Apple says Off mode is not enabled by default. To include Off in the cycle, change the listening-mode or press-and-hold settings. Apple’s Studio Buds+ guide explains the controls and settings. Apple also says turning off both ANC and Transparency maximizes battery life on Studio Buds+.

Beats Studio Pro
- Press the system button twice.
- Listen for the tone confirming the mode change. If the headphones switch to Transparency, press twice again to select Noise Cancellation.
Off mode is not enabled by default on Studio Pro; you can include it by changing the listening-mode settings. See Apple’s Studio Pro guide for the model’s controls.

Use your connected device instead
You can select Noise Cancellation from the listening-mode controls on a connected Apple device. On Android, open the Beats app, go to My Beats for your connected device, then tap Noise Cancellation on. Menu placement can vary by device. Apple documents these options in its listening modes guide.

If noise cancelling does not turn on
- Check the model name. Studio Buds+ use a press-and-hold on either earbud; Studio Pro use two presses of the system button. Do not assume those instructions apply to another Beats model.
- Check the control assignment. If holding an earbud button performs another action, its press-and-hold setting may have been customized. Supported Beats controls can be assigned to listening modes or another action, such as Siri. See Apple’s press-and-hold settings guide.
- Confirm ANC support and connection. Make sure the product is connected and that its exact model supports ANC. Not every Beats product has noise cancellation.
