To turn on active noise cancellation (ANC), wear both earbuds, connect them to your phone, open the Galaxy Wearable app, and tap Active noise canceling. The exact controls depend on your Galaxy Buds model—and the original Galaxy Buds and Galaxy Buds+ do not support ANC.
Turn on ANC in Galaxy Wearable

Put both earbuds in your ears. Samsung says both earbuds must be inserted for ANC to work on most compatible models.

Connect the earbuds to your phone and open the Galaxy Wearable app.

Tap Active noise canceling. On models with an ANC level slider, adjust it to your preference.

Samsung’s US support guidance, accessed October 7, 2026, gives these steps for compatible models. Menu wording and available controls can vary by model and region. Samsung’s general Galaxy earbuds ANC instructions provide model-specific guidance.
Controls by Galaxy Buds model

Use the touch-and-hold shortcut
On supported models, touching and holding an earbud can toggle sound controls if the gesture is assigned to noise controls. The default assignment and available options differ by model. If holding the earbud does not switch modes, check the touch-control settings in Galaxy Wearable or use the app’s on-screen ANC control instead.

- Active noise canceling reduces unwanted outside noise.
- Ambient sound uses the earbuds’ external microphones to let surrounding sound in, which can help you stay aware of nearby sounds.
They are separate listening modes, not alternate names for the same feature. Samsung’s Ambient sound guidance explains the mode and its model differences; Galaxy Buds Live has ANC but not the traditional Ambient sound mode described for other models.

If the ANC control is missing

Check the exact model name in Galaxy Wearable or your device’s Bluetooth settings. A missing ANC option is expected on the original Galaxy Buds and Galaxy Buds+.

For a compatible model, insert both earbuds, reconnect them to the phone, and reopen Galaxy Wearable.
