To turn on Snapchat’s dark appearance on a Samsung phone, open Snapchat, go to My Account, tap the gear icon, then choose Shortcuts > App Appearance > System Dark > Apply Theme. This is Snapchat’s documented in-app route for Android and iOS.
How do I turn on dark mode on Snapchat on my Samsung phone?
- Open Snapchat and go to My Account.
- Tap the gear icon to open Settings.
- Under Shortcuts, tap App Appearance.
- Select System Dark.
- Tap Apply Theme.

Why is Snapchat not dark when my Samsung is in Dark mode?
Snapchat’s App Appearance setting and Samsung’s device-wide Dark mode are separate controls. Snapchat’s in-app setting changes Snapchat’s appearance; Samsung’s setting controls the system theme. Samsung warns that “The dark theme may not be applied in some apps,” so enabling Dark mode on the phone alone may not make Snapchat dark. Snapchat’s documented in-app route does not require changing Samsung’s display setting first.

Where is App Appearance in Snapchat?
Snapchat’s support instructions place App Appearance under Shortcuts in the app’s Settings. If you do not see it there, or your labels differ, your Snapchat build may show a different interface. Snapchat’s help page itself offers feedback for cases where the article does not match what a user sees; the published instructions do not give a specific fix for a missing setting. Snapchat Support

What to remember
- For Snapchat itself, use App Appearance > System Dark > Apply Theme.
- Use System Light in the same Snapchat menu to switch its dark appearance off.
- Samsung’s device theme is separate; its documented Galaxy S23-series setting is under Settings > Display.
