Samsung Galaxy’s Accidental touch protection helps prevent unintended screen input when your phone is in a dark place, such as a pocket or bag. To turn it on, go to Settings > Display > Accidental touch protection and switch it on. The exact menu can vary by device, software version, country, or carrier.
What Accidental touch protection does
Samsung describes this feature as keeping the screen inactive when the phone is in a dark place, helping prevent accidental calls, messages, taps, or swipes. It is a built-in setting intended for situations such as carrying a phone in a pocket or bag—not a general screen lock. Samsung does not publish a statistic for how many accidental inputs the feature prevents or a measured effectiveness rate.

- Open Settings.
- Tap Display.
- Tap Accidental touch protection and turn it on.
If the setting is not at that path, search Settings for “Accidental touch protection.” Samsung cautions that menus and screens can vary by country or carrier, and the available options may differ by phone or software version.

How to dismiss the protection when you need the phone
If the protection activates while the phone is in a dark place and you need to use it, swipe the lock icon left or right to dismiss it. Samsung documents this control in its US support instructions.
If your Galaxy still wakes or registers pocket input
These measures address different parts of the problem: Accidental touch protection suppresses unintended input in darkness, while wake gestures can light the display and a secure lock helps stop important actions unless the phone is unlocked.

- Use a secure screen lock. It may not stop the display from lighting up, but Samsung says it helps prevent important actions unless the phone is unlocked.
- Review wake gestures. If they are too sensitive, turn off Lift to wake or Double tap to turn on screen. The labels and availability may vary by model.
- Consider a cover case. Samsung Canada suggests a flip- or wallet-style case as an optional physical barrier. Check that any case fits your exact Galaxy model.
Samsung Canada lists the lock, gesture, and case suggestions in its screen-touch guidance. In a July 2026 Galaxy S26 Community thread, a Samsung Community support manager also suggested checking touch sensitivity and restarting the phone. Those are community troubleshooting suggestions, not guaranteed fixes for every Galaxy model; see the thread.

Samsung’s US support page calls out an additional option for Galaxy Z Flip models: Fingerprint always on. Search for it in Settings, then turn it off or choose whether it applies to the cover screen, main screen, or both. This is a Z Flip-specific option, not a setting to expect on every Galaxy phone.
