You can wake a PS5 from Rest Mode with the PlayStation App or PS Remote Play after enabling network wake on the console. For Remote Play, also enable Remote Play itself and sign in to the same PlayStation account on your phone and PS5. A PS5 that is fully powered off cannot be woken through this documented feature.
How do I turn on my PS5 from the app?
First set up the console while you are near it. The required Rest Mode settings let the PS5 stay reachable over the network so a supported app can wake it.

On the PS5, open Settings > System > Remote Play and turn on Enable Remote Play. Sony notes this setting can be adjusted for each user. PlayStation Support: Set up PS Remote Play.

Go to Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode. Turn on Stay Connected to the Internet and Enable Turning on PS5 from Network. These are the Rest Mode options Sony specifies for network wake and Remote Play.

Put the PS5 in Rest Mode, rather than turning it off completely.

On your phone or tablet, open PS Remote Play, sign in with the same PlayStation account used on the console, select PS5, and connect. Remote Play opens a session that displays and controls the console on your mobile device.
Sony says the network setting “allows you to use the PlayStation App or Remote Play to turn on your PS5 console while it’s in rest mode.” PlayStation Support: PS5 power-saving settings.

Can I turn on my PS5 with the PlayStation App?
Yes. The PlayStation App has a Play on Console action for launching a downloaded game on a paired PS5. In the app, go to Game Library > Purchased, select the game, and tap Play on Console. The console must be in Rest Mode with Stay Connected to the Internet enabled. PlayStation Support: PlayStation App features.
This is different from starting a Remote Play session: Play on Console starts a chosen game on the paired console, while PS Remote Play connects you to the console interface and lets you control it remotely. Use Remote Play if you want to interact with the console on your phone; use Play on Console to start a particular downloaded game.
What do you need for Remote Play?

The PS5 must be in Rest Mode, with both network options enabled in Features Available in Rest Mode.

For a Remote Play session, Enable Remote Play must be on, and the phone and console must use the same PlayStation account.

Remote Play can use substantially more data than most video-streaming services. If you connect over mobile data, check your plan’s allowance.

A mobile controller is optional, not a requirement for waking the console. For supported mobile devices, Sony lists DualSense, DualSense Edge, and DUALSHOCK 4 controller options on its Remote Play support page.

Check whether the console is in Rest Mode
The documented network-wake feature applies while the PS5 is in Rest Mode. It does not provide a way to wake a console that is fully powered off. Turn it on locally, then use Rest Mode for later remote wake-ups.

Verify the console’s network and Remote Play settings
On the PS5, confirm Stay Connected to the Internet and Enable Turning on PS5 from Network are on under Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode. For a Remote Play session, also check Settings > System > Remote Play > Enable Remote Play.

Confirm the account and pairing
Sign in to the mobile app with the same PlayStation account used on the console. If the PS5 does not appear in the PlayStation App, check that the console is paired with the app; Sony’s PlayStation App feature instructions cover the app’s console connection.
Check the connection and mobile-data allowance
A weak connection can prevent a reliable Remote Play session even when the PS5 settings are correct. Compare your connection with Sony’s 5 Mbps standard and 15 Mbps best-performance recommendations, and account for Remote Play’s higher data use if you are on cellular service.
