To turn off shuffle in Samsung Music, open the full player by tapping the track name, then tap the shuffle icon. Shuffle is off when a line is drawn through the icon. If you would rather skip the player, you can choose the next song you want from the app’s main menu, and playback will continue in the listed order.
Turn shuffle off from the full player
- Open Samsung Music and start or select a track.
- Tap the track name. This opens the full music player. From the basic playback view, the track name is the way in; the controls appear at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap the shuffle button to toggle random playback off.
- Look at the shuffle icon. In the full player view, a line through the icon means shuffle is off.
How to confirm shuffle is off
The crossed-out icon is the only indicator Samsung describes for the off state, so use it as your check. If the icon has no line through it, shuffle is still on, and tapping the button again should change it. Samsung’s guidance does not promise that the shuffle icon sits in the same place in every app version or on every device layout, so if your screen looks different, look for the same crossed-out state rather than a specific position.
Use the main menu to play in listed order
If you want a specific song to play next without changing the shuffle setting, you can select it from the app’s main menu. Samsung documents this as its way to override shuffle, with the remaining tracks continuing in the order they are listed.

Shuffle changes the order of tracks. Repeat controls whether a track or list loops. Samsung documents repeat as its own control that cycles through three modes:

If songs still seem to loop after shuffle is off, check the repeat control rather than the shuffle icon.
Change shuffle when the app is in the background or the screen is locked
You do not need to return to the full player to control playback. When Samsung Music is running in the background, or the screen is locked, swipe down from the top of the screen to reach the playback controls in the notification area. From there you can use the controls while you use other apps.

Device and version notes
- Samsung’s UK support guide, updated 14 August 2026, describes Samsung Music on Samsung mobile devices running Android 5.0 and above.
- The same guide cautions that some file formats may not work on Android 12.
- If a track will not play, check its file format before assuming the shuffle setting is the cause.
