To stop Samsung Keyboard from being the active keyboard, select a different default: go to Settings > General management > Keyboard list and default > Default keyboard, then choose the keyboard you want to use. If you only want to hide Samsung Keyboard’s toolbar, turn off Keyboard toolbar in its settings instead; that does not change the active keyboard.
Switch to a different default keyboard
First, make sure the alternative keyboard you want is installed and enabled. You can get a keyboard from the Play Store or Galaxy Store. Then choose it as the default:
- Open Settings.
- Tap General management.
- Tap Keyboard list and default.
- Tap Default keyboard.
- Select the keyboard you want to use. Samsung’s Galaxy keyboard support instructions describe this route and direct users to select their desired keyboard.
After you select another default, that keyboard becomes the active input method. The available screens and labels can vary with your Galaxy model, carrier, software version, and region. If the path differs, search Settings for Keyboard or Samsung Keyboard.
Hide the Samsung Keyboard toolbar without changing keyboards
If you want to keep Samsung Keyboard but remove the row of toolbar shortcuts, open the keyboard in any text field, tap its Settings icon, and switch off Keyboard toolbar. This only hides the toolbar; Samsung Keyboard remains available and may still be the default.

To turn the toolbar back on, Samsung Canada’s keyboard settings instructions say to search Settings for Samsung Keyboard and enable the toolbar setting. The page applies to devices sold in Canada and notes that screens may differ in other countries.
Can you disable or uninstall Samsung Keyboard?
Samsung’s support pages explain how to change the default keyboard and adjust keyboard features, but they do not establish a universal way to disable or uninstall Samsung Keyboard across Galaxy devices. The documented option for stopping it from being the active keyboard is to choose another default. Menu availability may depend on the device and software.
