You can stop Samsung Cloud from syncing selected data by opening Settings > your Samsung account > Samsung Cloud and turning off the categories you choose. That is different from stopping device backups, deleting existing cloud data, hiding the Samsung Cloud icon, or disabling the app itself. Samsung’s available controls vary by device, software version, carrier, and region.
Choose what you mean by “disable Samsung Cloud”
Samsung Cloud settings cover several separate actions. Turning off a sync category stops that category from syncing; backup and restore have their own controls. Hiding the Samsung Cloud shortcut only removes its icon from the Apps screen. Samsung’s support guidance does not establish one universal procedure to disable or uninstall the Samsung Cloud app itself.
- Stop syncing selected data: Turn off the relevant category in Samsung Cloud settings.
- Stop or manage device backups: Use the separate backup controls if they appear on your phone.
- Remove the app icon: Turn off “Show Samsung Cloud on Apps screen,” if that setting is available. This does not turn off syncing or delete backups.
- Disable or uninstall the app: The steps depend on the Galaxy model and software version; the documented sync controls are not a universal app-disable method.
Turn off sync for selected categories
- Open Settings.
- Tap your Samsung account name at the top of Settings.
- Tap Samsung Cloud.
- Turn off the switches for the categories you no longer want synced. Depending on the phone, examples may include Contacts, Calendar, Samsung Notes, and Bluetooth.
Samsung’s US and Australia support instructions use this general route, but labels and available categories can vary. If you do not see Samsung Cloud in the account settings, your device, carrier, software version, or region may not offer the same controls. Samsung says Samsung Cloud is unavailable on Verizon phones and tablets and in some countries; check the settings on your own device for the options it supports. What changes when a category stops syncing?
Samsung Cloud sync keeps supported data aligned across devices signed into the same Samsung account. For example, Samsung says a synced note edited or deleted on one device is reflected on the others. Turning off that category means you should not rely on Samsung Cloud to keep those changes synchronized across your devices. The exact behavior for data already on each device can depend on the category and device; Samsung’s guidance does not say that switching off a sync toggle immediately deletes previously stored cloud data. Syncing is separate from device backup and restore
Samsung lists Back up data and Restore data separately from category-level sync. If your goal is to stop future device backups, inspect the backup screen rather than assuming that turning off a sync category has done it. Samsung US lists backup categories such as call logs, messages, contacts, calendar, clock, settings, home screen, and apps; your phone may show a different selection.
To review the available controls, open Settings > your Samsung account > Samsung Cloud and look for Back up data or Restore data. Follow the options shown on your device. Handle Gallery photos separately
Samsung US says photos and videos are not backed up to Samsung Cloud. Its guidance, along with Samsung Australia’s, points to Microsoft OneDrive for syncing Galaxy Gallery photos. OneDrive is an option for that Gallery function; Samsung’s guidance does not describe it as a replacement for all Samsung Cloud sync or device-backup features. Turning sync off does not delete existing cloud data
Samsung’s support material treats synchronization and backup management as separate functions and provides separate controls for managing backups. It does not say that turning off a category’s sync switch deletes data already stored in Samsung Cloud. If you want to remove an existing backup, look for the separate backup-management or deletion controls on your phone and read the confirmation prompt before proceeding. Know the inactivity policy
Samsung US says unused Samsung Cloud data categories may be deleted after 12 months and that Samsung will provide advance notice. This is an account inactivity policy, not a stated consequence of switching off a sync category. The cited policy is Samsung US guidance; do not assume it applies identically in every country. The instructions above turn off selected sync functions; they do not disable or uninstall Samsung Cloud. Samsung’s cited guidance does not provide a universal app-level procedure. Because the available app controls vary by Galaxy model and software version, check your device’s app settings or Samsung support for your exact model before attempting to disable or remove it. Do not assume that hiding the Apps screen shortcut has disabled the service.
