Restart your Samsung tablet to leave Safe mode. Samsung says a phone or tablet will reboot normally after restarting. If the “Safe mode is on” notification appears, you can also swipe down, tap it, and choose “Turn off.”
Two ways to exit Safe mode
Use the route that fits what is visible and responsive on your tablet. Menu labels, button names, and available screens can vary by model, software version, and carrier, as Samsung notes in its Safe mode instructions.

Restart from the power controls
- Open the Power menu. The exact way to open it can differ by Galaxy Tab model and software version.
- Tap Restart, if available. The tablet should turn off and boot again normally.
- If you choose Power off instead, wait until the tablet is fully off, then press the Power button to turn it back on.
Samsung documents the power-off-and-on sequence as a Safe mode exit procedure in its Galaxy boot-loop guidance.
Use the notification shortcut
Swipe down from the top of the screen. If you see “Safe mode is on,” tap the notification and choose Turn off. This option is convenient, but it is not required: a regular restart is sufficient.

Restart with buttons if the tablet is frozen
Samsung’s guidance for a frozen Galaxy device is to hold the Side and Volume down buttons together for more than seven seconds, until the device restarts. The button names and arrangement are model-dependent; consult the instructions for your specific tablet if that combination does not match its controls.
If the tablet starts in Safe mode again
Safe mode runs the tablet without third-party apps, which makes it useful for narrowing down a recurring problem. Start with the tablet’s buttons and accessories, then use what happens in Safe mode to decide whether an app or a hardware issue is more plausible.

Check whether something is pressing a button
- Remove the case and any accessories that could cover or press the tablet’s buttons.
- Check that the Power or Side button moves smoothly rather than sticking or remaining pressed. Samsung notes that a jammed key can cause device problems.
Samsung’s Galaxy Tab shutdown guidance specifically recommends removing cases or accessories that may cover the buttons.

Use Safe mode to assess recently installed apps
- If the problem that led you to Safe mode goes away there, a downloaded app may be involved. Samsung recommends uninstalling recently installed or updated apps one at a time, checking whether the problem stops.
- If the problem continues in Safe mode, a downloaded app is less likely to be the cause. If the evidence points to a hardware issue, Samsung recommends seeking professional service.
Leaving Safe mode may also return some customization options, such as wallpapers and themes, to their defaults.

Do not factory-reset just to leave Safe mode
A factory reset is not the normal way to exit Safe mode. Samsung describes it as a last resort and warns that it removes device data and content. Try restarting first; if the tablet keeps returning to Safe mode and the cause is unclear, seek model-specific support rather than erasing the tablet without a separate reason to do so.
