This Visuino project uses a button on Arduino pin D2 to toggle an electromagnet module on and off. Its logic is debounce → toggle flip-flop → digital multi-source; the module’s signal connects to D3, while D13 controls the Arduino’s onboard LED as an indicator. The tutorial does not identify the module’s model, voltage, current rating, or internal driver, so check its documentation before wiring it.

Parts and connections in the tutorial

The DFRobot Maker Community tutorial, credited to Ron.Cutts and dated October 27, 2024, lists an Arduino UNO (or another Arduino or ESP), a 1 kΩ resistor, a button, an electromagnet module, jumper wires, a breadboard, and Visuino. The module is shown with SIG, VCC, and GND connections, but its make and electrical specifications are not given. Read the DFRobot project tutorial.

The tutorial’s wiring is:

  • Connect Arduino D2 to one button contact and to one end of the 1 kΩ resistor. Connect the resistor’s other end to GND.
  • Connect the button’s other contact to 5V.
  • Connect Arduino D3 to the module’s SIG pin.
  • Connect the 5V and GND rails to the module’s VCC and GND pins.

This describes the tutorial’s setup, not verified compatibility for every module with these labels. Confirm that the module accepts the board’s logic signal and that its supply and load requirements match your setup.

Build the toggle logic in Visuino

  1. Choose Arduino UNO as the board type in Visuino.
  2. Add a Debounce Button, a Toggle(T) Flip-Flop, and a Digital Multi Source.
  3. Connect Arduino D2 to the Debounce Button’s In.
  4. Connect the Debounce Button’s Out to the Toggle(T) Flip-Flop’s Clock.
  5. Connect the flip-flop’s Out to the Digital Multi Source’s In.
  6. Connect Digital Multi Source outputs 0 and 1 to Arduino D3 and D13, respectively.
  7. Select the correct port, then choose “Compile/Build and Upload.”

In the tutorial’s described result, each button press changes the toggle state: the electromagnet module switches on or off, and the onboard LED indicates the active state. The sequence of components provides button debouncing, toggling, and routing to the two Arduino outputs. Visuino describes its software as a visual programming environment; see its official overview.

KEYESTUDIO 5V DC 25N Force Electric Lifting Magnet Solenoid Electromagnet Module for Arduino
  • This module mainly contains an electromagnet. A magnet that generates a magnetic field from an electric current.
  • It uses the principle of electro-magnetic. With a straight metal wire passing through the current, the space around the wire will produce a circular magnetic field.
  • In order to concentrate the magnetic field, the coil inside the electromagnet is wound into a coil, and many lines are arranged side by side, so that all the magnetic fields of the coil pass through the center of the coil, forming a strong magnetic field there, which can make it absorb a 1kg ferromagnetic.
  • When using this module, you can control the electromagnet on and off by controlling the High or Low level on its Signal end.
  • How to use: search for "keyestudio wiki ks0320" in Google Chrome to get the wiki online tutorial for this product.

Check the module before applying power

The tutorial does not state whether its electromagnet module contains a driver or protection circuitry. Do not assume an unknown bare coil can be powered directly from an Arduino GPIO pin. Arduino’s UNO Rev3 documentation specifies 20 mA as the recommended operating current per I/O pin and says not to exceed 40 mA; these are board specifications, not a rating for the electromagnet. Check the Arduino UNO Rev3 documentation.

Before connecting the module, check its own documentation for:
