If a professional app crashes, freezes, or feels sluggish on a Galaxy Tab S12, first identify exactly when it fails, then update the app and check permissions and system software before trying steps that can erase work. Samsung announced the Tab S12 series with Android 17 and One UI 9 on September 30, 2026, but that does not guarantee that every app or workflow is compatible. The right diagnosis depends on your tablet model, installed software, app version, and the task that triggers the problem.
First, identify what “won’t run well” means
Before changing settings, reproduce the problem and note what happens. An app that is missing from the store may have a different issue from one that installs but closes during a project. Record the exact symptom and the conditions that bring it on.
- Installation: Does the app not appear in Google Play Store or Galaxy Store, or does the store block its download?
- Launch or stability: Does the app fail to open, crash later, or freeze?
- Performance: Is it generally sluggish, or only slow during one operation?
- Specific workflow: Does the issue occur only with a particular file, feature, sign-in, network, accessory, or screen orientation?
- Device and software: Note whether the tablet is a Tab S12 Ultra or Tab S12+, the app’s name and version, and the Android and One UI versions shown in Settings. Availability and update timing may vary by market, carrier, and model.
If the tablet is managed by your workplace, include that detail: an organization’s settings can affect app access and updates. For a professional app’s exact system requirements or known issues, check its publisher’s support information or ask your IT administrator.

Samsung’s September 30, 2026 announcement says the Galaxy Tab S12 series runs Android 17 with One UI 9 and highlights professional apps such as Photoshop, Notability, Goodnotes, LumaFusion, Notion, and Clip Studio Paint. That announcement does not establish that every named app is preinstalled, available in every market, or guaranteed to work with every feature. Its footnotes say availability and terms vary; some apps require separate downloads, purchases, or subscriptions.

Check the app’s current store listing and the publisher’s requirements for your specific model and Android version. If it is not offered for your tablet in Play Store or Galaxy Store, Samsung identifies that as a possible incompatibility signal. Samsung also cautions that apps written for older Android versions may not work on recent devices. An app can also be available to install yet still have a bug or a limitation affecting a particular feature.
Android platform releases can introduce behavior changes that affect apps. Android’s developer documentation describes compatibility testing as a responsibility for app developers; a tablet’s hardware alone cannot guarantee that an app supports its installed Android release. The documentation’s developer context identifies Android 16 (API 36) as the latest stable API, while Samsung’s 2026 announcement says the Tab S12 ships with Android 17. Do not use that difference by itself to infer whether an app works: confirm the tablet’s installed version and the app publisher’s current requirements.
Samsung’s Galaxy Store distribution policy sets standards for installation, launch, termination, feature behavior, and handling hardware events, heat, and battery drain. Those are publication requirements, not a promise that every app will be free of bugs on every tablet, software build, market, or professional workflow.
Try the least disruptive fixes first
1. Update the app from its original store
Open the store that supplied the app—Google Play Store, Galaxy Store, or another third-party store—and install any available update. Then retry the same task that failed. If the store does not offer the app for your device, check the publisher’s compatibility information rather than installing an unofficial copy.

2. Check the app’s permissions
Open Settings > Apps > [affected app] > Permissions. Grant only the permissions the app needs for the task you are trying to perform. Samsung notes that permissions may be automatically removed from apps that have not been used for a while, so a feature that previously worked may need permission again.
3. Install any Google Play system update
Samsung says many apps rely on Google Play system software. Check Settings > About tablet > Software information > Google Play system update, install an offered update, and test the app again. Labels can vary by software version.
4. Optimize the tablet, then restart
Run Settings > Device care > Optimize now. Samsung says this routine closes running apps and checks power use, storage, and unstable or malicious apps. Retry the same operation in the professional app. If it still fails, restart the tablet and repeat the test.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsUse the pattern of the failure to narrow the cause
Compare the problem across apps and conditions rather than changing several things at once. These checks help distinguish an app-specific fault from a broader device or background-app issue.

- Only one app is affected: Focus on its update, permissions, publisher requirements, and support channel.
- Several apps are affected: Check for available system updates, restart, and consider whether another downloaded app is interfering.
- The issue began after an app or system update: Note the timing and exact version when contacting the publisher or IT. Compatibility problems can depend on the app and Android release.
- It happens only during one task: Test whether the same failure depends on a file, feature, sign-in, network, accessory, or orientation. Report the condition that reliably reproduces it.
- It stops after a restart or in Safe mode: That points toward a temporary resource issue or interference from another downloaded app, respectively; use the Safe mode check below to investigate further.
Reinstall carefully, then test for another app’s interference
Reinstall the affected app
Before uninstalling, confirm that projects and settings are synced or backed up and that you know the account credentials needed to sign in again. Then uninstall the app, reinstall it from the store that originally supplied it, and repeat the same test. A professional app may keep important work locally, so do not assume uninstalling is harmless.
Check in Safe mode
Safe mode disables downloaded apps and loads the original system software. If the affected app behaves normally there, Samsung says a downloaded app is likely responsible. After exiting Safe mode, remove recently installed apps one at a time, testing the professional app after each removal to identify a possible conflict. You may need your device credentials after rebooting.
Leave data clearing and factory reset until later
Clear app data only after protecting local work
Samsung notes that app data errors can cause problems, but clearing an app’s data erases information stored by that app and may sign you out. First verify cloud sync, back up local projects and settings, and make sure you can sign in again. If you proceed, open Settings > Apps > [affected app] > Storage and use the available data-clearing option; labels may vary by software version.

Escalate before considering a factory reset
If one app still fails after updates and isolation, send the publisher or your workplace IT team the app version, Tab S12 model, Android and One UI versions, precise reproduction steps, and whether Safe mode changes the result. Samsung warns that a factory reset restores the tablet’s original settings and will not permanently fix a bug that requires an app update, so it is a last resort rather than the next routine troubleshooting step.
