E-11 on a Samsung microwave means an open gas sensor error in Samsung’s US and Canadian support guidance. First try Samsung’s reset procedure; if the code returns, request service. The exact meaning and remedy can vary by model and country, so treat this as a troubleshooting guide—not confirmation that a particular part needs replacement.
What does E-11 mean?
Samsung’s US and Canadian support pages identify E-11 as an open gas sensor error. The code indicates a fault reported by the microwave’s gas-sensor system; it does not, by itself, establish that the sensor must be replaced.
Samsung Canada notes that its code guidance applies to microwaves sold in Canada and that meanings or solutions may differ for products purchased elsewhere. Check the manual for your exact model and use Samsung support for your region if its instructions differ.
How to reset a Samsung microwave showing E-11
- Turn the microwave off. Unplug it or switch it off at the circuit breaker.
- If moisture may have entered the electronics, let the microwave dry. Samsung US specifically mentions moisture from a spill or steam from a cooktop as possible causes to consider.
- Otherwise, wait 60 seconds. Samsung’s US and Canadian instructions both specify this interval before restoring power.
- Restore power and check the display. If E-11 returns, stop troubleshooting and request service.
This is a power reset, not a test that identifies which component has failed. Samsung US directs owners to its Support Center to request service if the code returns; Samsung Canada likewise advises contacting its Service Centre if the error persists.

Why you should not assume a DIY sensor replacement
Samsung’s US guidance recommends service if E-11 comes back. Samsung France groups E-11 with related gas-sensor codes and lists checking wiring or replacing the sensor among possible remedies, but that regional guidance also says most microwave error codes require an authorized technician. It does not provide a part number or establish that owners should open the appliance.
Do not order a sensor based on the code alone. The sources do not identify a universal replacement part, and compatibility depends on the exact model and market. For a repair beyond the reset, contact Samsung or an appropriately qualified service professional.
