Open a video in Google Photos and tap or click the editing controls to trim its length or change its framing. On Android, you can also use Auto > Stabilize to reduce camera shake. Google’s published iPhone and iPad instructions cover trimming and cropping but do not document a stabilization control.
Trim a video in Google Photos
On Android
- Open the video in Google Photos.
- Touch and hold either trim handle, then drag it to select the section you want to keep.
- Tap Save to save the edited result as a copy.
On iPhone or iPad
- Open the video and tap Edit.
- Drag the trim handles to select the section you want to keep.
- Tap Save copy.
Google documents these steps in its Android video-editing guide and iPhone and iPad guide.
Crop, rotate, or straighten a video
On Android
- Open the video and tap Crop.
- Choose Aspect ratio to change the frame shape, such as to a square.
- Use the available controls to rotate the video by 90 degrees, straighten it with the dial, apply Auto straightening when available, or mirror it horizontally.
- Save the edited result as a copy.
On iPhone or iPad
- Open the video, tap Edit, then tap Crop.
- Choose Aspect ratio to change the frame, or use Rotate and the dial to adjust the angle.
- Save the edited result as a copy.
The controls listed differ between Google’s platform guides: the Android guide documents mirroring and additional straightening options, while the iPhone and iPad guide lists aspect ratio, rotate, and dial-based straightening.

Stabilize a video on Android
- Open the video in Google Photos.
- Tap Auto, then tap Stabilize.
- Tap Save to save the edited result as a copy.
Google’s cited iPhone and iPad instructions do not document this stabilization control. That describes the published guidance, not whether a control may appear in other versions or circumstances.

Requirements and platform differences
Google lists different requirements for editing features. Availability can depend on the device as well as the operating-system version.
