You can’t move Pokémon directly from Pokémon HeartGold or Pokémon SoulSilver to Pokémon HOME. The supported route is to transfer them locally into a Generation V game, send them to Pokémon Bank with Poké Transporter, then move them from Bank to HOME. Bank-to-HOME transfers are scheduled to end on February 26, 2027, at 03:00 UTC, so complete the move before then.

What you need for the transfer

  • A copy of HeartGold or SoulSilver and a compatible Generation V destination game: Pokémon Black, White, Black 2, or White 2. Nintendo’s instruction booklet for Pokémon Black specifically documents transfers from HeartGold and SoulSilver and requires the National Pokédex for that feature. Follow the destination game’s instructions for any additional unlock conditions.
  • Two DS-family systems for the local transfer between the older games.
  • Existing access to Pokémon Bank and Poké Transporter on a Nintendo 3DS family system. Both apps stopped being available for download from the 3DS eShop in March 2023. The older notice said Bank would continue at no cost with no end date then planned; the current service notice sets the end date below.
  • A Pokémon HOME Premium Plan for the Bank-to-HOME transfer.

Nintendo lists Black, White, Black 2, and White 2 as Poké Transporter source games. Poké Transporter does not take a HeartGold or SoulSilver cartridge directly. See Nintendo’s compatibility list for Pokémon Bank and Poké Transporter.

Step 1: Transfer Pokémon into a Generation V game

  1. On the Generation V game, meet its requirements for the transfer feature. Nintendo’s Pokémon Black booklet specifies that the National Pokédex is required for the documented transfer from HeartGold or SoulSilver.
  2. Use two DS-family systems: one with HeartGold or SoulSilver, and the other with Black, White, Black 2, or White 2. Start the local transfer feature from the Generation V game and follow its on-screen directions.
  3. Confirm that the Pokémon arrived in the Generation V game before proceeding.

The exact transfer minigame screens vary by destination game; use that game’s own prompts rather than assuming the steps are identical across versions.

Step 2: Use Poké Transporter to move Pokémon into Bank

Open Poké Transporter on the 3DS associated with your Bank access and follow its prompts to transfer eligible Pokémon from the supported Generation V game into Pokémon Bank. Nintendo’s compatibility information confirms the supported games, but does not specify a box-selection walkthrough. Afterward, open Bank and confirm that the Pokémon appear there.

Step 3: Move Pokémon from Bank to HOME

Pokémon Support describes two ways to make the final move. Choose based on whether you can use the 3DS with Bank and whether moving the entire Bank collection at once is acceptable.

Method What you need What moves
Using a 3DS Access to Bank on the 3DS and HOME with Premium; enter the Moving Key that HOME provides within three minutes. You can select Bank Pokémon for the move.
Without a 3DS The Nintendo Network ID used for Bank must be linked to the Nintendo Account used for HOME. All Pokémon in Bank move at once.

Using a 3DS and a Moving Key

  1. Open Pokémon HOME and choose the option to move Pokémon from Pokémon Bank. HOME generates a Moving Key.
  2. In Pokémon Bank on the 3DS, start the move to HOME and enter the key shown in HOME. The key expires after three minutes, so enter it promptly.
  3. Select the Pokémon to move as directed, then confirm the transfer.

Moving Bank Pokémon without a 3DS

  1. Check that the Nintendo Network ID associated with Bank is linked to the Nintendo Account associated with HOME.
  2. In HOME, start the Bank transfer without a 3DS and follow the account prompts.
  3. Review the collection and account details before confirming: this method moves all Pokémon in Bank at once.

Check compatibility before sending Pokémon onward

The move from Bank to HOME is one-way: Pokémon moved into HOME cannot be returned to Bank. In HOME, check each Pokémon’s compatible-games information before moving it into a particular later game; not every Pokémon can enter every game that connects to HOME. Pokémon’s HOME move and compatibility instructions explain these limits.

Pokémon Bank’s shutdown deadline

Pokémon’s official Pokémon Bank service notice says service ends February 26, 2027, at 03:00 UTC. Bank-to-HOME transfers will no longer be possible after that time. If your Pokémon are still in Bank, move them to HOME before the deadline.

If your Bank subscription expired

An expired pass does not by itself mean the Bank boxes are empty. Pokémon Support explains how to open Bank and check for stored Pokémon in its expired-subscription guidance. Check what is there before choosing the no-3DS method, since that route transfers the full Bank collection. HOME Premium is required for the transfer.
