You can transfer photos from a Canon EOS Rebel T3i to a computer either by connecting the camera with a USB Mini-B data cable or by taking out its memory card and using a card slot or reader. For a phone, use a compatible memory-card reader and confirm it works with the phone’s connector and import workflow. Canon’s general Camera Connect information does not confirm support for the T3i, so do not assume the app will transfer photos from this model.
Choose a transfer method

Transfer photos to a computer over USB
The camera’s computer-communications terminal is Hi-Speed USB-standard Mini-B. Canon’s connection article says: “Use the supplied USB cable to connect the camera to the computer.” If you need a replacement, look for a data cable with a Mini-B plug at the camera end and the appropriate plug for your computer; a cable that only charges devices may not transfer files.
- Start the computer and leave the camera disconnected.
- Turn on the T3i and adjust its Auto power off setting as directed in Canon’s model-specific connection instructions.
- Connect the camera to the computer with the supplied cable, or a compatible USB data cable.
- Follow the import or file-transfer workflow available on your computer. The exact prompts and software depend on its operating system and installed applications; use Canon’s linked procedure for the model-specific steps.
Transfer photos with a computer card reader
A card reader is useful if you would rather work with the memory card directly or EOS Utility’s system requirements are not met. Canon says a reader can save images from the card without Canon software or a camera USB cable; its T3i connection guidance also points to using a card slot or commercially available reader as an alternative.
- Turn the camera off before removing the memory card.
- Insert the card into a computer’s built-in slot or a reader compatible with both the card and the computer.
- Use the computer’s photo-import or file-copy workflow to copy the images.
- Eject the card or reader safely before disconnecting it, then return the card to the camera.
Transfer photos to a phone
The practical route is to remove the memory card and connect it to the phone through a compatible card reader. Match the reader to the card and the phone’s connector; if an adapter is needed, verify that the phone supports the reader and offers a way to import or access the files. Canon’s card-reader guidance describes transferring images from a card, but does not document a specific phone setup.

Canon Camera Connect is described for compatible Canon cameras, but that general description does not establish that the EOS Rebel T3i is compatible. Check Canon’s current T3i support information and the app’s model compatibility details before relying on direct wireless or app-based transfer.

Use Canon’s EOS Rebel T3i/EOS 600D recognition troubleshooting for model-specific checks rather than assuming the cable, operating system, or camera is faulty. If the computer cannot meet EOS Utility’s requirements, a memory-card slot or compatible reader is the documented alternative.

What to check before buying a cable or reader
- USB cable: The camera end needs a USB Mini-B plug; the other end must fit the computer. Canon recommends the supplied cable.
- Card reader: Confirm it accepts the T3i’s memory card and connects to the intended computer or phone.
- Phone workflow: Check the phone’s connector, operating-system support, and ability to import or access files through the reader.
