To move data from an iPad to an Android tablet, start the tablet’s setup and choose the option to copy from an iPhone or iPad. Follow its prompts to transfer what it supports by cable or Wi-Fi. Apps themselves do not move as iPad installations: install Android versions from Google Play, then sign in or restore data in each app. Photos stored only in iCloud need a separate transfer to Google Photos.
How do I transfer apps, photos, and files from my iPad to an Android tablet? The practical answer is to use the tablet’s setup transfer for compatible local data, handle apps and iCloud separately, then verify everything before erasing the iPad.
Before you start: check the tablet, space, and connection
Transfer options differ by tablet model and Android version. Google documents general Android setup transfer steps and a more specific Pixel Tablet flow; the data categories available on another brand may differ. Keep the iPad and tablet charged, unlock the iPad, connect both to Wi-Fi, and check the Android tablet’s free storage. Google notes that insufficient destination storage can interrupt a copy.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFor wireless Android Switch transfer, Google specifies iOS 15 or later and recommends keeping the devices near each other. If the iPad is managed by a school or employer, its administrator may restrict transfers. See Google’s Android transfer guide and Pixel Tablet transfer instructions.

Choose cable or wireless transfer
Use the setup method offered by the tablet. On Pixel Tablet, Google lists more data categories for cable than for Wi-Fi; that comparison should not be assumed to apply to every Android tablet.
| Pixel Tablet data category | Cable | Wi-Fi |
|---|---|---|
| Contacts and calendars | Listed by Google | Listed by Google |
| Photos and videos stored locally | Listed by Google | Listed by Google |
| WhatsApp history | Listed by Google | Not listed by Google |
| Free Play Store apps | Listed by Google | Not listed by Google |
| MP3/audio files, notes, photo wallpapers, and home-screen layout | Listed by Google | Not listed by Google |
These are categories in Google’s Pixel Tablet transfer instructions, not a promise that every Android tablet or transfer method supports them. If the tablet offers a wired route and you want the broadest set of categories listed for Pixel Tablet, choose cable. Check both devices’ ports before connecting; an adapter may be needed.
Transfer during Android tablet setup
- Turn on the Android tablet. At the prompt to copy apps and data, choose the option for an iPhone or iPad. The wording and screens vary by device.
- Follow the tablet’s connection instructions. For a wireless flow, scan the displayed QR code with the iPad camera if prompted and continue in Android Switch. For a wired flow, connect the iPad’s charging cable to the tablet; use a compatible adapter if the connectors do not match.
- Approve the iPad connection. If the iPad asks whether to trust the connected device, approve it. Choose the data categories the tablet offers and leave the devices connected while copying.
- Check the result on the tablet. Open a few transferred items before moving on to apps or cloud-only content.
Google’s general Android setup transfer instructions and its Pixel Tablet-specific steps explain the documented flows. If the tablet’s prompts differ, use its manufacturer’s instructions rather than assuming Pixel Tablet options apply.

Apps and app data
An iPad app is not transferred as an iPad installation. Google says the classic transfer path can copy free apps that are available in Google Play; app availability may differ by region, and paid iPad apps or purchases should not be expected to carry over. Install the Android version from Google Play, then sign in or follow the app developer’s restore procedure. Saved data, subscriptions, and login state depend on the app and service.

Photos and videos stored on the iPad
Select local photos and videos if the transfer flow offers them. After copying, open a selection on the tablet to confirm they are present. If storage is limited, copy fewer large categories at a time or use a cloud route.
Photos and videos stored only in iCloud
Use Google’s iCloud Photos to Google Photos transfer process for media that is not stored locally on the iPad. Alternatively, install Google Photos on the iPad, enable backup, and allow the library to upload. Google says this upload can take several days, so it is not necessarily immediate. Confirm the photos appear in the intended Google account before deleting anything from the iPad.
Files and folders
File transfer support depends on the tablet’s setup flow and Android version. If a file or folder is not offered during setup, transfer it through a cloud service such as Google Drive or use a computer. Google’s Android transfer guide describes internet-based and computer-mediated alternatives.
Messages
Turn off iMessage for the phone number you are moving to Android so messages can reach the Android device. Follow Google’s message deregistration and troubleshooting guidance; some message features or attachments may not carry across identically. Check SIM or eSIM setup as well if texts do not arrive.

Can you transfer everything from an iPad to an Android tablet?
No. The transfer covers only data categories supported by the particular tablet and method. Apps are installed separately as Android versions, app data depends on each app’s restore options, and iCloud-only photos need a separate route. Purchases, settings, file types, or message features may not have an equivalent transfer path. Review the categories offered on the Android tablet and treat the transfer as incomplete until you verify the items you need.
Can you transfer without a cable?
Often, if the tablet offers a wireless iPhone/iPad transfer flow and the iPad meets its requirements. Google specifies iOS 15 or later for wireless Android Switch. On Pixel Tablet, Wi-Fi supports fewer listed categories than cable; another tablet may have a different set of options. If pairing fails, check internet access, allow Android Switch to use the iPad camera when requested, keep the devices near each other, and follow any Wi-Fi connection prompts. Google says iOS 14 or earlier cannot use its wireless Android Switch method, although cable transfer may still be available.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Verify the transfer before erasing the iPad
- Open a sample of photos, videos, and documents on the Android tablet.
- Check that important contacts and calendar entries are present.
- Install essential Android apps and confirm you can sign in or restore saved content.
- Confirm iCloud-backed photos are visible in the intended Google account.
- Check that texts arrive on Android after iMessage is turned off and SIM/eSIM service is set up.
Google recommends erasing the old device only after confirming the data has copied. Keep the iPad intact until the items you rely on are accessible from the tablet or another verified backup.
Fix common transfer problems
Wireless pairing fails
Confirm both devices have internet access, keep them close, allow camera access to Android Switch, and follow the tablet’s Wi-Fi prompts. If the iPad runs iOS 14 or earlier, use a cable if the tablet supports it.

The cable does not connect
Check that the connectors fit both ports and that the cable is seated properly. Google notes that an iPad charging cable may require a USB-A-to-USB-C adapter if it does not fit the destination tablet. Check your exact ports before choosing an adapter.
Photos are missing
Some photos may exist only in iCloud rather than on the iPad itself. Use the iCloud-to-Google-Photos transfer or back up with Google Photos from the iPad. If the copy was interrupted or a format is unsupported, retry the relevant transfer route and verify the files in the destination account.
The transfer stalls or storage runs out
Free space on the Android tablet, deselect large photo or video categories, and retry. If transfer after initial setup is unavailable, check the manufacturer’s instructions; a setup reset may be required on some devices, so do not reset without understanding its effect on data already added to the tablet. See Google’s Android transfer troubleshooting steps.
Texts do not arrive
Turn off iMessage on the Apple devices associated with the number, check SIM or eSIM activation, and follow Google’s message troubleshooting steps at Android Help.
