You can lower the amount you pay for a Galaxy S26 by entering your old phone’s exact model and condition in Samsung’s trade-in checkout, then comparing that quote with current carrier offers. Samsung’s instant trade-in credit and a carrier’s monthly bill credits work differently, and the amount you qualify for depends on your device, the S26 model, the seller, and the offer available when you buy.
How to get a trade-in quote for a Galaxy S26
- Choose the Galaxy S26 model and storage. Samsung announced U.S. general availability for the Galaxy S26 series on March 11, 2026. Samsung.com is one purchase channel, but Samsung’s trade-in credit applies to qualifying purchases through its program; do not assume it applies to a purchase from another seller.
- Enter your old phone’s exact make, model, and condition. Use Samsung’s trade-in flow on Samsung.com or in the Shop Samsung app. The resulting quote is more useful than an advertised maximum: Samsung says eligible devices and credit amounts may change.
- Compare the checkout total with other current offers. Check the final amount due and the terms for any carrier or retailer deal before placing the order. An offer’s headline maximum is not necessarily what your phone qualifies for.
- Save the quoted amount and offer terms. Note the purchase date, expiration date, device eligibility, and any conditions on combining promotions. Offers can change, and a checkout quote is specific to the details you entered.
There is no reliable single amount to quote for every buyer. Without the old phone’s model and condition, selected S26 variant, seller, and purchase date, only the live checkout can provide a relevant estimate.
Samsung instant trade-in vs. a carrier offer
Samsung describes its program as an anticipated credit applied at purchase toward a qualifying new Samsung device. Carrier offers may instead provide monthly bill credits, which Samsung says can take one to three billing cycles to appear. Samsung also says its instant trade-in discount cannot be combined with carrier bill credits.

Compare the net cost, not just the largest advertised number: subtract the immediate Samsung credit or the carrier credits you expect to earn from the phone’s cost, then account for any service or plan obligations and the possibility of losing future credits. Carrier thresholds can vary even across models in the same launch campaign. AT&T’s Galaxy S26 launch terms, for example, used different phone eligibility and minimum trade-in-value thresholds for different models; those launch terms are historical evidence, not a current quote.

Which old phones and conditions qualify?
Samsung’s terms require an eligible device that powers on and holds a charge, has a functioning display, is not blacklisted, and is owned by the customer rather than leased. The phone must also meet Samsung’s damage requirements; liquid damage or disqualifying breakage can make it ineligible. Samsung’s terms include exceptions such as an applicable cracked-screen offer, so check the exact condition choices and rules shown for your device rather than assuming every damaged phone is rejected or accepted.
Samsung also requires the device to be factory-reset, personal information removed, and software locks disabled. A quote based on your answers is conditional: Samsung reviews the phone after it is sent and may adjust or charge back the anticipated credit if the device does not meet the applicable terms.

When do you have to mail the trade-in?
Under Samsung’s cited U.S. terms, you must send the old phone within 15 days after receiving the qualifying purchase. If you do not send it by then, Samsung says it may charge back the trade-in credit applied at purchase. If you send it within that period but the device fails eligibility review, Samsung says the chargeback is the trade-in credit minus $25. Read the terms attached to your order and follow its specific shipping instructions and deadline.
Once a trade-in passes review, Samsung says ownership transfers to Samsung and the device cannot be returned. Do not send your old phone until you have completed the new-phone transfer and have the trade-in instructions you need.

Prepare your phone before shipping it
- Back up and transfer your data. Confirm that contacts, photos, messages, authenticator access, and other needed information are available on the new phone or in a backup.
- Remove personal information and accounts. Follow Samsung’s instructions for deleting personal data and disabling software locks. A locked device or one that has not been reset may fail the requirements.
- Factory-reset the phone. Do this after confirming your transfer and backup, not before you know the data you need is safe.
- Ship within the stated window. Use the instructions provided for your order and retain any shipping confirmation until the trade-in is resolved.
Check the offer before you buy
Samsung’s Galaxy S26 offers page can include time-limited promotions, and displayed offers may have different dates or apply to other eligible products rather than directly reducing the phone price. Confirm the live terms in the purchase flow: check whether a promotion is active, what it applies to, whether it can be combined with trade-in, and when it ends. Do not treat a promotion or carrier launch offer as available unless its current terms say so.
