Use Michigan’s official ballot tracker to check whether your local clerk has received your completed absentee ballot. Search for your voter record, then look in the “Absentee ballot” section. A “received” status confirms the tracker records receipt; it does not mean the ballot has been counted.
Check your ballot’s status online
- Open Michigan’s official ballot-tracking page.
- Look up your voter record using your name, birth month and year, and ZIP code, or choose the driver’s-license-number search option.
- Find the “Absentee ballot” section. It shows the date the ballot was sent and whether the clerk has received your completed ballot.
The tracker covers application activity as well as ballot activity, so check the ballot section specifically when you want to know whether the clerk got your completed ballot.
Get email notifications
Michigan offers email notices about absentee-ballot activity through its ballot-tracking service. Look up your voter record, enter an email address, provide consent, and submit the request.

If you returned your ballot in person
If you hand your ballot in at an early-voting site or on Election Day, the online tracker will not mark it as received, and Michigan will not send a notification. That limitation does not establish that officials failed to receive a ballot you returned in person. If you need confirmation, contact your local clerk.

If your mailed ballot is missing or the status is unclear
If you have not received your ballot as Election Day approaches, Michigan advises checking the tracker and confirming your voter-registration information and address. For questions about whether a ballot was mailed or received, contact your local clerk. The state’s absentee-voting guidance says most completed ballots must reach the clerk by 8 p.m. on Election Day to count. Military and overseas ballots have a different rule: they must be postmarked on or before Election Day and received within six days after the election.
What “received” does—and does not—tell you
A received status indicates that the clerk has received the completed ballot. Michigan’s tracking instructions do not say that this status means the ballot has been counted or reveal whether it verifies the voter’s selections. After receipt, local clerks securely store completed and signed ballots until processing and tabulation.
