Build a dashboard that puts U.S. Treasury and Federal Reserve data beside crypto spot, derivatives, and on-chain indicators—but treat it as context, not a proven trading signal. The series describe different things and update on different schedules: crypto markets trade continuously, while official macroeconomic observations may be daily or weekly, and a provider’s crypto metrics can have their own cadence and coverage.
Which indicators belong on a liquidity dashboard?
Start with measures of the Fed’s balance sheet and reserve conditions, the Treasury’s cash balance, and short-term funding rates. Add crypto-market indicators in separate groups so a change in leverage or on-chain activity is not mistaken for a change in government liquidity.
| Measure | What it describes | Source and observation schedule | How to read it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fed assets, reserve-related data, and SOMA holdings | The broad balance-sheet backdrop and holdings of securities in the System Open Market Account. | Federal Reserve H.4.1 and New York Fed Markets Data Dashboard. The dashboard identifies SOMA holdings as weekly; H.4.1 is a weekly release, but individual series may be a level or an average. | Keep the series definition and observation convention with the value. “Fed balance sheet” and “bank reserves” are related, but are not interchangeable measures. |
| Treasury General Account (TGA) | The U.S. Treasury’s cash account at the Federal Reserve. | New York Fed Annual Report on Open Market Operations during 2025 and Federal Reserve May 2026 Balance Sheet Developments discuss the account and its uses. The cited descriptions do not establish one universal update schedule for every TGA series; record the schedule of the specific series you choose. | Changes can affect reserve conditions through Treasury receipts and payments, but a TGA move does not mechanically dictate crypto prices. |
| Overnight reverse repo (ON RRP) | Amounts placed in the New York Fed’s temporary open-market reverse-repo operations. | FRED series RRPONTSYD: daily aggregate amounts. | This is an operation with temporary reserve effects, not the Treasury’s cash balance or the Fed’s total assets. |
| SOFR and EFFR | Short-term secured and effective federal funds reference rates, respectively. | New York Fed Markets Data Dashboard: daily reference rates. Check each observation date, reported volume where available, and release date. | Use as funding context alongside balance-sheet data; a rate observation and a weekly holdings figure do not represent the same timestamp. |
| Crypto spot price and volume | Trading prices and activity for the asset and venues represented by the data provider. | Crypto markets trade continuously, but a chart’s sampling interval and provider coverage depend on the selected feed. | Record the asset, venues, time zone, and sampling interval. A provider’s combined figure may not cover the entire market. |
| Funding rates, open interest, and liquidations | Different views of derivatives positioning and leverage. | Glassnode’s catalog and overview list these indicator categories. Exact update frequency and venue coverage depend on the particular metric and provider. | Read these as market-structure measures, not direct measures of Treasury or Fed liquidity. |
| MVRV, realized price, and SOPR | Modeled on-chain views of price relative to a modeled cost basis, and whether spent outputs were moved at a profit or loss. | Glassnode metric documentation describes these on-chain indicators; check the selected metric’s metadata for cadence and methodology. | They reflect chain data and provider methods, not every investor’s cost basis or all trading, much of which happens off-chain. |
How do Treasury and Fed liquidity measures work?
Fed balance sheet and reserves
The New York Fed Markets Data Dashboard brings together links to weekly SOMA holdings, H.4.1 factors affecting reserve balances, market operations, reference rates, and related data. Use the originating series rather than relying only on a summary chart. H.4.1 contains reserve-related releases, while SOMA holdings describe securities held in the Fed’s account; neither should be relabeled as the other.

Treasury General Account
The TGA is the Treasury’s cash account at the Federal Reserve. Treasury uses it for tax receipts, federal disbursements, interest payments on debt, and the settlement of issuance, maturities, and buybacks, as described in the New York Fed’s 2025 annual report on open market operations. In general, receipts and payments can alter reserve conditions as cash moves between the Treasury and the banking system. The timing and size of other transactions matter, so an isolated TGA increase or decrease is not a crypto-price explanation.
#1 Best Overall
The Federal Reserve’s May 2026 Balance Sheet Developments report described a $79 billion increase in TGA balances for the period covered by that report. That is a period-specific reported change—not a current TGA balance or a recurring monthly figure.
ON RRP and funding rates
FRED’s RRPONTSYD series reports daily aggregate amounts for the New York Fed’s temporary open-market reverse-repo operations. The Federal Reserve explains that these operations temporarily add or drain reserves available to the banking system and can influence day-to-day federal funds trading. Because ON RRP is an operation with its own purpose and timing, do not combine it conceptually with the TGA or treat it as another name for Fed assets.

SOFR and EFFR add short-term funding context. Preserve the rate’s observation date and release date, and include reported volume when the source provides it. Daily reference rates can be compared with other daily series, but they should not be time-aligned with a weekly balance-sheet observation as though both measured the same instant.
How should you combine macro and crypto data?
Use a consistent window without changing a series’ native frequency. Daily macro charts can sit beside daily crypto data; for weekly and monthly releases, keep the actual observation dates visible. Do not fill gaps by silently carrying a weekly value across every day or interpolate a monthly observation into a daily series without labeling that transformation.

If you create a composite such as Fed assets minus TGA minus ON RRP, label it as an analyst-defined proxy, not an official Federal Reserve measure. State the units, component series, frequency conversions, and date alignment. A composite can be useful for comparison, but its construction does not establish that it measures all liquidity available to crypto markets.
How can you make the monitoring routine reproducible?
- Choose the assets, sources, and time window. Specify which crypto assets and data providers you are using, and decide whether the comparison is daily or at a slower native release frequency.
- Log each series’ identity and metadata. Record its name or identifier, source agency or provider, units, observation date, release date, and whether it is a level, flow, rate, or average. For provider metrics, also note the covered assets and venues where stated.
- Keep timestamps honest. Mark weekends and holidays, and do not pair a weekly Wednesday observation with a crypto weekend close as if their timestamps matched. Distinguish the period measured from the date the information became available.
- Compare changes and turning points across groups. Look at TGA, ON RRP, Fed balance-sheet and reserve measures, and short-term rates alongside spot, derivatives, and on-chain indicators. Seek context across independent measures rather than making a conclusion from one chart.
- Preserve the data history. Note revisions, release lags, provider coverage changes, and methodology changes. If you transform or aggregate series, document the calculation and retain the underlying values.
What can this dashboard tell you—and what can’t it?
It can help you describe whether official liquidity and funding measures changed around the same time as crypto prices, leverage, or on-chain indicators. It can also make mismatched frequencies and data gaps visible, which is essential when comparing a continuously trading market with scheduled government releases.

The cited source documentation establishes definitions and publication methods; it does not establish that a particular liquidity reading reliably predicts crypto prices. Co-movement is not proof of cause: crypto can move for reasons unrelated to the selected macro measures, and provider-derived derivatives or on-chain metrics cover only the data their methodologies capture. Keep observations descriptive unless you have separate evidence supporting a causal or predictive claim.
