Todoist does not provide the task timer described in its current help guides as a built-in feature; those guides explain how to add timers with third-party integrations. The documented Toggl Track and Clockify workflows put a start/stop control beside tasks in Todoist on supported browsers, while time records and reporting live in the tracker. The main catch: the documented Toggl integration works only in Todoist’s web app.
How Todoist time tracking works
A time-tracking browser extension connects a Todoist task to an external tracker. You start or stop a timer from the task, then use the tracker to review the recorded time. These are third-party integrations, so availability and support depend on the tracker and the browser or Todoist client you use.
Choose an integration based on your workflow

Set up Toggl Track in Todoist web
- Install the Toggl Track browser extension and sign in to Toggl Track.
- Open the extension’s Integrations settings and enable Todoist.
- Open Todoist in a browser. Hover over the task you want to time and select the Toggl Track control to start the timer.
- When you finish, select the control again to stop. Open Toggl Track’s web app to review or export time entries.
Todoist’s Help Center says this integration only works while using the Todoist web app. It will not add the documented timer control to Todoist desktop or mobile apps. The article was last updated August 28, 2026, according to Todoist’s help-page listing. See Todoist’s Toggl setup instructions.

Set up Clockify with Todoist
- Install the Clockify extension for Firefox or Chrome and sign in.
- Open Todoist in that browser and find the task you want to track.
- Select the Clockify control beside the task to start timing. Select it again to stop.
Todoist describes the integration as managed by Clockify and directs users to Clockify support for integration problems. Browser support and setup details may change; check the Todoist Clockify instructions and Clockify’s support guidance if the control is missing. Todoist’s help-page listing gives August 28, 2026 as the article’s last updated date.
What to check before choosing an integration
- Where you need the timer: Confirm whether the integration works in Todoist web, a desktop app, mobile apps, or only a specific browser. The documented Toggl workflow is web-only; Todoist documents Clockify for Firefox and Chrome.
- How tasks connect to timers: Toggl Track and Clockify document start/stop controls on Todoist tasks, avoiding manual task entry for the documented workflows.
- Where reports and exports live: Toggl explicitly directs users to its web app for time entries and report export. Confirm reporting and export options with other providers before relying on them.
- Whether you need individual or team workflows: Todoist’s TrackingTime page mentions personal and team productivity. That does not establish the same team features for every integration.
Todoist’s integration directory also lists Everhour, Time Doctor, TimeCamp, Timely, Timeneye, TMetric, and WebWork Tracker, alongside Clockify, Toggl Track, and TrackingTime. Troubleshoot a missing timer control
- Using Todoist desktop or mobile with Toggl? Open Todoist in a browser instead; the documented integration appears only in the web app.
- Using Clockify? Check that you are using Firefox or Chrome, that the extension is installed, and that you are signed in.
- Still no control? Revisit the provider’s integration settings and current setup instructions. Todoist directs users to Clockify support for Clockify integration issues.
Integration details and browser compatibility can change. Todoist’s listed Toggl and Clockify articles were updated August 28, 2026, and its TrackingTime page was updated August 14, 2026. Check the linked provider and Todoist instructions for the latest availability before settling on a workflow.
