Paylocity time tracking is provided through an employer’s Time & Labor setup. Depending on what your employer enables, you may clock in using the Paylocity app, a web time sheet, a kiosk, or a physical time clock. To clock in on the mobile app, sign in with your company-provided credentials, open Punch, and tap Clock In.

How to clock in with the Paylocity mobile app

  1. Download the official Paylocity app from the app store for your device.
  2. Sign in using the credentials provided through your employer. The app is free to download, but using it requires an active Paylocity account through an employer. Paylocity’s mobile app page gives the company’s official instructions.
  3. Open Punch and tap Clock In.
  4. At the end of your shift, return to Punch and clock out.

If Punch or Clock In is missing, or the app rejects your punch, your employer may not have enabled mobile punching for your account or may require a different clock-in method or location.

Choose the clock-in method your employer has enabled

Paylocity supports several ways to collect employee time, but an individual employer chooses and configures the available methods. Ask your manager or payroll/HR contact which method applies to your workplace. Paylocity’s time-collection overview describes these options.

Method How it works What to know
Physical time clock Employees punch at a shared clock. Depending on the setup, clock options can include badge reading, photo capture, attestation, touchless methods, facial recognition, or fingerprint recognition. Ask your employer which clock and punch method to use; Paylocity’s public material does not identify specific compatible models.
Kiosk tablet Employees record punches at a shared tablet kiosk. Paylocity describes an enclosed, preconfigured tablet that may capture photos and attestation responses. It does not specify a consumer tablet or enclosure model.
Web app or time sheet Employees access time functions after logging in to the web dashboard. Time sheets can assign hours to jobs, projects, cost centers, and labor levels, which is useful when time must be recorded against more than a shift’s start and end.
Mobile app Employees use the app’s Punch section to record time. Mobile punches may be subject to geofencing, photo capture, IP restrictions, or other employer controls. Paylocity says mobile punching can work with limited or no mobile service; Apple Watch integration also supports clocking in and out with a tap.

Why a Paylocity punch may be blocked

A failed punch does not necessarily mean the app is malfunctioning. Paylocity lists geofencing, IP restrictions, and clock restrictions among controls employers can use. A mobile punch may be allowed only at an approved location, while another employer may require punching on a designated clock or network.

  • Confirm the required method: Check whether your employer expects app, web, kiosk, or physical-clock punches.
  • Check your location and connection: If your workplace uses a location or IP restriction, move to the permitted area or network. Some app setups display geofence status to help indicate whether the punch location is inside the allowed zone.
  • Verify account access: The mobile app requires an active account provided through your employer. If you cannot sign in, contact your employer’s HR/payroll team or Paylocity support for account-specific help.
  • Report a missed or incorrect punch: Follow your employer’s process for correcting time rather than assuming a failed punch was recorded.

Paylocity’s mobile app information describes geofencing and photo capture; its time-collection page describes employer-configured clocks and restrictions. The exact controls you encounter depend on your employer’s setup.

Does Paylocity track your location?

Paylocity describes geofencing as an available control for mobile punches. That can be used to determine whether a punch is made inside an employer-approved area; the mobile app may also support photo capture. These capabilities do not establish that every employer enables them or that every employee’s location is continuously tracked. Ask your employer what location settings apply to your account and when location information is used.

What happens after you submit time

Time tracking can feed into attendance review and payroll workflows. Paylocity says managers can review, edit, and approve time cards on mobile or desktop, with approved time data passed to Payroll. The system can also support attendance and labor rules, time-off balance monitoring, reports, and alerts for missed punches or approaching overtime. Availability depends on the employer’s configuration. See Paylocity’s Time & Attendance overview.

Schedules and time tracking are related, but not identical

Paylocity’s scheduling tools can provide schedule visibility, notifications, open-shift claims and swaps, and rules for breaks, shifts, and overtime. These capabilities may depend on the employer’s enabled modules. Paylocity’s June 15, 2026 update describes enhanced scheduling templates added in May 2026 for employee-assigned or open shifts; this product update does not mean the feature is enabled for every employer. See Paylocity Scheduling and the May 2026 product update.

If you are an employer choosing a time-collection method

Choose a method around how employees work and what the organization needs to validate—not simply because one option is available. Consider:

  • Work location: Shared clocks or kiosks may fit on-site teams; web and mobile access may suit other work patterns, subject to employer controls.
  • Identity checks: Clock options may include badges, photos, or biometric methods; mobile punches may use geofencing and photo capture.
  • Labor allocation: Confirm whether teams need hours assigned to jobs, projects, cost centers, or labor levels.
  • Approvals and exceptions: Evaluate time-card edits and approvals, reporting, missed-punch or overtime alerts, and the payroll handoff.
  • Scheduling: If employees need shift claims, swaps, or scheduling rules, confirm those tools are included and enabled for your setup.

Paylocity’s public pricing page directs prospective customers to request pricing rather than listing a universal price. Pricing for a particular employer’s modules, deployment, or clock hardware is not stated there. See Paylocity pricing information. Do not assume a generic third-party clock, tablet, enclosure, or phone is compatible; confirm hardware requirements with Paylocity or the employer.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
