Track each sportsbook promotion as a separate record: save its full terms, calculate wagering against the specific amount named in those terms, and put every distinct deadline on your calendar. Because rules vary by operator, offer, and jurisdiction, check the promotion and your account before placing a qualifying bet or making a withdrawal.

What to record for each sportsbook bonus

Create one spreadsheet row or notebook page for every offer you accept. Save a dated screenshot or copy of the complete terms at acceptance; keep the source link with it. The sportsbook’s current promotion page and your account display are useful checks, but the offer-specific terms are the record to consult.

  • Offer identity: sportsbook, jurisdiction, offer name, and the source link or screenshot.
  • Dates and status: when you accepted and activated the offer, plus each relevant expiry date, time, and time zone.
  • Eligibility and trigger: who qualifies and what deposit or other action is required.
  • Value and calculation: bonus type and amount, the wagering multiplier, and the exact amount to which it applies.
  • Bet restrictions: eligible wager types and events, minimum odds, maximum stake, and any excluded bets.
  • Account mechanics: whether deposit or promotional funds are used first, how to redeem or withdraw, and what cancellation does.
  • Progress: qualifying stake placed, exclusions, remaining turnover, and the account activity used to reconcile your record.

These fields reflect the kinds of details regulators require operators to disclose in some jurisdictions. For example, Ohio’s sports-gaming rule calls for active and expiry dates, eligibility, wagering and redemption requirements, eligible events or wagers, and cancellation requirements in promotion rules (Ohio Administrative Code Rule 3775-16-09). This is an Ohio requirement, not a nationwide rule.

How to track every deadline

Do not treat an offer as having one all-purpose deadline. Opt-in, placing the qualifying wager, using a bonus credit, and completing wagering can each have a different cutoff. Record each one separately, including its time zone, then create a calendar event with reminders far enough ahead to act.

  1. Copy the exact deadline and time zone from the offer terms or account.
  2. Name the event by the action required, such as “opt in,” “place qualifying wager,” “use bonus credit,” or “finish wagering.”
  3. Set at least one advance reminder and a final reminder before the cutoff. Choose intervals that leave time to resolve account or eligibility issues.
  4. After completing the action, mark it in your tracker and retain the relevant account or wager record.

A seven-day window is not a universal sportsbook standard. FanDuel’s Washington, DC master promotional terms state that a limited-time bonus is valid for seven days from issuance unless the specific promotion says otherwise; use the individual offer’s deadline rather than assuming that period applies to other promotions or jurisdictions (FanDuel Washington, DC promotional terms).

How to calculate the wagering requirement

Multiply only the base specified in the offer terms by the stated playthrough multiplier. Never assume the multiplier applies to the bonus alone or to the deposit plus bonus: offers can define the base differently.

Terms say the multiplier applies to Example calculation Turnover required
A DKK 100 bonus at 10× DKK 100 × 10 DKK 1,000
A DKK 100 deposit plus a DKK 100 bonus at 10× (DKK 100 + DKK 100) × 10 DKK 2,000

These are worked examples published by the Danish Gambling Authority, not examples of a specific U.S. sportsbook promotion (Danish Gambling Authority bonus guidance). If an offer says “10× bonus,” verify what “bonus” means in its full terms before calculating.

Once you know the required turnover, track only wagers that the terms count. Update qualifying stake after each settled wager, subtract excluded or ineligible amounts, and calculate the remaining amount as required turnover minus qualifying stake. Do not assume every wager qualifies; compare your running total with the sportsbook’s account display and activity records.

How to compare or act on two offers

A bigger headline bonus does not necessarily mean a better or easier-to-use offer. Compare the terms that determine what you must do and what can prevent completion:

  • Bonus value and the amount used as the multiplier’s base.
  • Time allowed for opt-in, qualifying action, bonus use, and wagering completion.
  • Eligible bet types and events, plus minimum odds or stake limits.
  • Whether deposit funds or bonus funds are wagered first.
  • Withdrawal, redemption, and cancellation conditions.

Make the comparison from the actual terms for the offers and jurisdiction involved. If a condition is unclear, do not fill in the gap with assumptions; check the operator’s current terms or ask the operator before accepting or wagering.

Why clear terms and account reconciliation matter

Regulatory requirements differ by jurisdiction. Ohio’s rule requires promotion rules to address when an offer is active and expires, eligibility, play and redemption requirements, eligible wagers, cancellation, and other terms. Kentucky separately specifies offer dates and expiry, eligibility, wagering limitations, notification, order of funds, eligible events or wagers, and cancellation requirements under 809 KAR 10:002. Kentucky also says promotions must not be described as “free or risk-free” when a patron must risk their own money to use or withdraw winnings. That is a Kentucky requirement, not a nationwide rule.

Use account records to check your own log rather than relying only on a manually updated total. Pennsylvania’s interactive-gaming rule provides one example of an account summary that tracks beginning balance, awards, amounts used and expired, adjustments, and ending balance (58 Pa. Code § 813a.5). It concerns Pennsylvania interactive gaming and should not be treated as a universal sportsbook recordkeeping requirement.

Common tracking mistakes to avoid

  • Saving only the headline: retain the full offer terms, including exclusions and cancellation rules.
  • Using one expiry date for everything: record each action deadline separately.
  • Applying the multiplier to the wrong amount: find the exact base in the terms before doing the arithmetic.
  • Counting every wager: track eligible settled stake, and reconcile against account activity.
  • Ignoring fund-use order or withdrawal conditions: understand how funds are applied and what completing, cancelling, or withdrawing means before opting in.
  • Calling a promotion free or risk-free: if your own money is at risk, treat it as a wager with terms and potential loss, not guaranteed value.

A spreadsheet with calendar reminders is enough for most people; a paper notebook can work just as well if it captures the same details and is updated consistently.
