In India, use your National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) acknowledgement number to check complaint progress, but do not treat a status update as proof that money has been frozen. To verify a hold, ask your bank and the investigating State or Union Territory (UT) police authority handling the complaint. If you are reporting an active cyber financial fraud, call 1930 immediately.
How do I track my cybercrime complaint?
- Find your acknowledgement number. For complaints submitted through the portal’s “Report and Track” or “Report Other Cybercrime” options, the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) says it sends a complaint reference number by SMS and email. Keep it available for follow-up.
- Open the official status page. Go to the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal and choose “Check Status.” Enter the acknowledgement number and complete the requested OTP and captcha on the official complaint-status page.
- Contact the responsible police authority if you need more detail. The portal says complaints are handled by the selected State/UT police authority. Use your acknowledgement number when asking the authority assigned to your case about its current status and next step.
The acknowledgement number confirms that a report was submitted and gives you a way to follow its progress; it is not a finding about the complaint or confirmation of a bank hold. The portal’s FAQ describes it as a number that can be used to track complaint progress through “Check Status.” Status details can vary by case, so do not assume every complaint will show the same information.
How can I check whether money was frozen?
Check with the bank and the investigating authority, not just the complaint-status page. The official I4C/MHA cyber-police portal notice states that “neither NCRP nor I4C has the authority to place liens, freeze, or unfreeze bank accounts.” A hold involves law enforcement and the bank; a generic complaint status does not establish that one exists.
When you contact the bank, ask whether any amount is actually on hold, how much, and which investigating authority issued the instruction. Give the bank complaint reference and relevant transaction IDs, dates, and the NCRP acknowledgement number. Ask the investigating authority handling your complaint to confirm the case status and what action, if any, has been taken regarding the funds. These are direct follow-up questions; there is no universal public freeze-status display established by the official sources.

Which status should I check?
| What you are checking | Where to follow up | Information to provide | What it establishes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Complaint progress | NCRP “Check Status” and the assigned State/UT police authority | Acknowledgement number; the portal also requests OTP and captcha | Progress or actions shown for the report—not automatically a funds hold. |
| Bank transaction or account hold | Your bank and the responsible investigating authority | Bank complaint reference, transaction IDs, and NCRP acknowledgement number | Ask whether a stated amount has been held and which authority instructed it; a complaint status alone does not establish this. |
What should I do if the fraud is happening now?
For cyber financial fraud, the NCRP directs victims to report immediately by calling 1930, which it describes as available 24/7. Keep the 1930 report reference, bank transaction details, and any bank complaint number. Use the official cybercrime.gov.in domain for portal access, and be cautious of lookalike sites, search advertisements, or unsolicited messages claiming to provide complaint tracking.
What does a freeze mean for getting money back?
A confirmed hold and a refund are different outcomes. A freeze does not prove that funds have been returned, and the official material does not establish a guaranteed recovery time or guarantee that a held amount will be paid back to the complainant. A parliamentary answer says banks defreeze accounts on appropriate directions from the concerned law-enforcement agencies when a complaint is resolved or a false or fraudulent complaint is withdrawn; this describes those circumstances, not a general refund process.
How should I keep records for follow-up?
Keep a concise record so the bank and police can identify the same report and transactions. Save the NCRP acknowledgement and, if applicable, the 1930 reference; note transaction IDs and dates, the amount involved, and your bank complaint number. For every contact, record the date and the name or office you spoke with, then note the answer and any requested next step.

This procedure concerns India’s NCRP and its State/UT law-enforcement handling. If you are elsewhere, contact your own national or local cybercrime reporting authority and your bank’s official fraud channel; the India portal steps and 1930 direction should not be assumed to apply in another country.
