To tell whether an Apple deal is good, compare the exact model and configuration against Apple’s current price, other retailers’ current offers, and the item’s price history. Then weigh its condition, seller, release timing, and fit for your needs. A large “discount” percentage by itself does not show that you are getting good value.
1. Identify the exact Apple product and configuration
Start by writing down the details that determine the price. Depending on the product, these may include its product family and generation, size, storage, connectivity, and any upgraded hardware configuration. A deal on a different variant is not a reliable comparison, even if the product name looks nearly identical.

This matters especially with refurbished Macs: a build-to-order unit may include hardware upgrades that change its price. Match the specifications of the listing you are considering, not just the headline model.
2. Check Apple’s current price
Use Apple’s current price for the same configuration as a reference point. Check that the retailer’s stated original or reference price corresponds to that configuration and lines up with Apple’s price. Prices can change, so verify them when you are deciding whether to buy rather than relying on an old promotion or an outdated comparison.

3. Compare current offers from other retailers
Once you have an exact configuration, compare its price at more than one retailer. MacRumors’ Apple price-comparison charts list offers from Best Buy, Amazon, MacMall, Adorama, and B&H Photo. Use a chart to find competing listings, then open the relevant offers and check that each one is for the same configuration and condition.
- Confirm whether the item is new, open-box, or refurbished.
- Check who is selling it and whether it is in stock.
- Make sure the listing’s configuration matches yours, including storage and upgrades.
A lower listing price is useful only if it is for the item and condition you actually want.

4. Look at price history for the same listing or variant
A current markdown can be easier to judge when you know how the price has moved over time. For Amazon offers, TechRadar recommends CamelCamelCamel as a way to check whether a discount is unusual and whether the same item has sold for less before.

5. Compare Apple Certified Refurbished with new offers
Apple Certified Refurbished is another option to compare. MacRumors’ guide describes refurbished discounts across iPhones, iPads, Macs, and other devices as reaching up to 15 percent; that is a guide-level summary, not a guaranteed discount for a particular product or date. The cited reports say Apple-certified refurbished units undergo testing and inspection and include a one-year limited warranty.
Check the precise refurbished configuration against both Apple’s current price and retailers’ prices for new units. Refurbished inventory fluctuates, and the available configurations may be limited, so a refurbished listing is not automatically the least expensive option.

For context, MacRumors reported on June 26, 2026, that in the U.S. the refurbished MacBook Air M5 started at $1,099 while the new model started at $1,299. The same report listed the second-generation Studio Display refurbished from $1,359 and new from $1,599. These were dated examples, and the report noted that Apple had changed pricing the previous day; they are not current quotes.

6. Factor in release timing and what you need
Price is only part of the decision. Consider where the model sits in its release cycle and whether its features suit your intended use. MacRumors’ Buyer’s Guide shows release timing by product family and addresses the question, “Is it the right time to buy an Apple product?” Use that timing information as context, not as a substitute for checking the exact offer.

There is no universal discount percentage that establishes a good Apple deal across product categories. A smaller saving on the right configuration may suit you better than a larger advertised discount on a model whose features do not meet your needs.
