Ignore the sale badge until you have checked the exact product, the price you would actually pay, and what other sellers charge for the same item. A discount is only a good deal if the product and conditions match your needs—and Best Buy’s price-match policy is a limited backstop, not proof that a price is the lowest available.
Start by confirming it is the same product
Compare the full model number, not just the product name or a similar-looking photo. Check the brand, color, generation, capacity, configuration, and included components. A laptop in the same product family may have a different processor or memory; an appliance may have a different finish or included accessory. Those differences can make two prices incomparable.
This is especially important if you plan to request a price match. Best Buy’s US policy requires an identical item and specifies the same brand, model number, and color. See Best Buy’s current Price Match Guarantee.

- Find a current listing for the identical item. Compare Best Buy’s price with at least one other seller’s live offer. Confirm who sells the item, whether it is new, and whether it is in stock for immediate shipping or pickup.
- Include required costs. Compare the amount you would actually pay, including unavoidable shipping or other required charges. A lower displayed price may not be lower after those costs.
- Match the conditions. Compare a public price with another public price. If an offer requires membership, a coupon, financing, a bundle, trade-in, or another condition, account for whether you qualify and whether you would choose that offer anyway.
- Decide whether the terms are worth it to you. A gift card, financing deal, or bundle is not automatically equivalent to a lower cash price. Count its value only if you can use it and are willing to meet the requirements.
Read the promotion before trusting the savings claim
A sale badge or percentage-off figure is a reason to investigate, not proof of a bargain. Look for the conditions attached to the offer and distinguish the advertised discount from the practical value you receive. Best Buy’s developer documentation lists product fields such as regular price, sale price, savings percentage, and latest pricing change; those fields do not establish a complete price-history chart for shoppers or show how long historical records cover. If you do not need to buy immediately, observe the price over time or set an alert. Best Buy’s app listing advertises deal finders, Deal of the Day, and deal notifications, but does not establish that every product page offers a full historical chart. Best Buy’s app listing describes those features.
Know what Best Buy’s price match does—and does not—cover
For a qualifying match, Best Buy says the item must be new, sold by Best Buy, and identical to the competitor’s item. The competing offer must be immediately available to ship or for store pickup. Marketplace sellers are excluded. The policy also limits matches to the current pre-tax price available to all customers and permits one price match at purchase per identical item per customer.

Many offer types are excluded. The policy includes exclusions for membership-program or select-customer prices, financing, bundles, subscriptions, coupons, limited-quantity or out-of-stock offers, clearance, open-box, refurbished, pre-owned, trade-in, pricing errors, gift-card and credit-card offers, and special daily or hourly sales. It also identifies specific seasonal and other exclusions. This list is not a substitute for checking the full, current terms: Best Buy’s policy page says the guarantee may be amended.
Best Buy says it may match eligible competitor prices and, upon request, a lower Best Buy price during the applicable return and exchange period. It also says its online and app prices can be matched for in-store purchases, and in-store prices for online or app purchases. The policy does not establish one universal number of days for every order, so check the return period that applies to yours.

Best Buy’s stated price-adjustment term is: “If we lower our in-store, online or app price during the return and exchange period, we will match our lower price, upon request.” A match is not automatic; eligibility and exclusions still apply.
How to request a match
- Open the live competitor listing and verify the exact model, condition, seller, and immediate shipping or pickup availability.
- Check the offer against Best Buy’s exclusions and confirm the current pre-tax price.
- Ask Best Buy through the process listed on its policy page before relying on the match. Keep the live offer and product-identification details available; Best Buy says it may call the competitor or check its website to verify the price and availability.
Use price trackers only for the history they actually show
Keepa and CamelCamelCamel describe price histories and alerts for Amazon. They can help you judge Amazon’s pricing for the identical item, but they do not establish what Best Buy charged in the past. See Keepa and CamelCamelCamel.

A quick decision checklist
- Is the full model and configuration identical?
- Are you comparing the same condition, such as new with new?
- Who is the seller, and is the item available now for shipping or pickup?
- What is the total required cost, not just the listed price?
- Does the offer require membership, a coupon, financing, a bundle, or trade-in?
- If you are counting on a Best Buy match, does the competitor and offer meet the current policy?
