The 35 W processor is the Intel Core i7-7700T. The 65 W processor is the standard Intel Core i7-7700. The final T is part of the processor’s model number, so identify the chip by its complete model name—not by its cooler, temperature, or a momentary power reading.

Identify the installed processor in Windows

  1. Press Win+R, enter msinfo32, and press Enter.
  2. In System Summary, find the Processor field. Intel says the processor name and model number are displayed there.
  3. Look specifically for i7-7700T or i7-7700. A missing T means it is the standard model, not the 35 W T variant.

You can also open Task Manager, select Performance, then CPU. The processor name appears in the CPU pane.

Identify it in Linux

  1. Open a terminal.
  2. Run lscpu.
  3. Read the Model name line and check the complete suffix.

The output should distinguish Intel Core i7-7700T from Intel Core i7-7700. Do not infer the variant from current frequency or reported package power.

Check a CPU that is not installed

Read the processor markings

Inspect the text printed on the heat spreader. The full model designation includes the suffix, allowing you to distinguish the T model from the standard model.

Read the retail-box label

If you still have the box, compare its processor name and ordering information. Intel lists these i7-7700T identifiers:

  • Tray ordering code: CM8067702868416
  • Boxed ordering code: BX80677I77700T
  • Spec code: SR339

Intel’s Processor Identification Utility for Windows also supports 7th-generation Core processors and newer, according to Intel’s identification guidance.

Specification Core i7-7700 Core i7-7700T
Intel-listed TDP 65 W 35 W
Base frequency 3.6 GHz 2.9 GHz
Maximum turbo frequency 4.2 GHz 3.8 GHz
Cores / threads 4 / 8 4 / 8
Cache 8 MB 8 MB
Socket listing LGA1151 FCLGA1151
Integrated graphics Intel HD Graphics 630 Intel HD Graphics 630
Intel-listed memory types DDR3L-1600 and DDR4-2133 DDR3L-1600 and DDR4-2133

The TDP figures are Intel’s product ratings, not a guarantee of a particular computer’s measured wall power, heat output, or sustained performance. Cooling, motherboard power limits, firmware, workload, and the rest of the system affect those results.

Will an i7-7700T replace an i7-7700?

Not necessarily. Although Intel lists both processors for the LGA1151 desktop platform, a socket match alone does not prove that a motherboard or prebuilt computer supports the replacement.

  • Find the exact motherboard or system model.
  • Check its manufacturer CPU-support list for the specific processor.
  • Confirm the required BIOS or firmware version.
  • Check the manufacturer’s thermal and power restrictions, especially in compact OEM systems.

Apply the same checks before replacing an i7-7700T with an i7-7700. The lower-rated T model is not automatically supported by every system that accepts the standard model.

Used-parts and replacement checklist

  1. Request a clear photo of the CPU markings or the box label.
  2. Verify the complete name: i7-7700T for the 35 W part or i7-7700 for the 65 W part.
  3. Compare the ordering or spec code with Intel’s product information when the label is unclear.
  4. Check the exact computer or motherboard support list and BIOS requirement.
  5. Do not accept a seller’s description based only on “i7-7700,” socket type, cooler size, or a claimed wattage.
