On a Galaxy S23 Ultra, press the Side button and Volume Down at the same time to capture the screen. You can also enable Palm swipe for a button-free capture, or use Scroll capture to include more of a supported page than fits on screen. Screenshots are saved in Gallery.
Choose the screenshot method that fits
| Method | Best for | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Side button + Volume Down | A quick capture, including when the keyboard is open | Both buttons need to be pressed at the same time. |
| Palm swipe | Capturing without pressing the buttons | Must be enabled, and it does not work while the keyboard is showing. |
| Scroll capture | Capturing additional content below the visible screen | Available only for supported scrollable content that extends beyond one screen. |
Take a standard screenshot with the buttons
- Open the screen you want to capture.
- Press the Side button and Volume Down button simultaneously, then release them.
- Open Gallery to find the screenshot.
Samsung’s S23-series user manual describes the button combination as the standard capture method. Some apps and features do not allow screenshots, so a capture may be blocked on particular screens.
Enable and use Palm swipe
- Open Settings > Advanced features > Motions and gestures.
- Turn on Palm swipe to capture.
- Swipe the edge of your hand left or right across the screen you want to capture.
Samsung’s support guidance says, “This gesture is not available when the keyboard is showing.” If the menu path or setting name differs on your phone, search Settings for “Palm swipe”; menus can vary by software version and region.
Capture a long page with Scroll capture
- Open a scrollable page, such as a webpage, and take a standard screenshot.
- When the screenshot toolbar appears, tap the Scroll capture icon to extend the capture into content below the visible screen.
- Continue tapping the icon as needed, then stop when you have captured the portion you want.
The icon appears only when the content extends beyond one screen, and some apps or websites may not support the feature. Samsung describes Scroll capture as a way to capture elongated pages such as webpages.

Use the screenshot toolbar and find your image
After capture, the toolbar can offer options to scroll-capture, write or draw on the image, crop, add a tag, or share it. Screenshots are available in Gallery. If the toolbar does not appear, check Settings > Advanced features > Screenshots and screen recorder > Show toolbar after capturing. The exact label may differ with software version.

- Buttons are awkward: Enable Palm swipe and use the hand-edge gesture, provided the keyboard is not displayed.
- The keyboard is open: Use Side + Volume Down; Palm swipe is unavailable while the keyboard shows.
- Scroll capture is missing: The page may not extend beyond one screen, or the app or website may not support scrolling capture.
- Capture is blocked: Some apps or screens restrict screenshots for privacy or security. Use an allowed way to access or share the information rather than trying to bypass that restriction.
- Settings do not match: Search Settings for the feature name; labels and availability can differ across software versions and regions.
Samsung’s Galaxy S23 series user manual documents screenshot capture and toolbar options. Samsung’s Galaxy screenshot support page, last updated June 25, 2026, explains current general guidance, while its motions and gestures support page covers Palm swipe. Feature details and menu wording may differ on the S23 Ultra by software version or region.
