Open the Camera app, switch to the front camera, frame your shot, and tap Capture. Samsung says photos taken with a Galaxy tablet are saved in Gallery. Some models also support a timer or palm gesture for hands-free selfies, but camera options and menu names vary by model and software version.
Take a selfie with the front camera

Open the built-in Camera app.

In the preview, tap the switch-camera icon—usually shown as arrows—to change to the front camera.

Center your face and adjust the framing, then tap Capture.

Open Gallery to find the photo.
Samsung’s current US guide describes using the front camera for selfies and saving captured photos in Gallery: Use the Camera app on your Galaxy tablet.

Set up the shot
Hold the tablet at a comfortable distance and check the preview before capturing. If your model offers grid lines, you can enable them in Camera settings to help position your face and keep the composition level. Samsung documents this option for the Galaxy Tab S4; it may not appear on other tablets. See Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S4 camera guidance.
Take a selfie without touching the shutter
A timer or palm gesture can help when you want both hands free or need to position the tablet farther away. These options are available only on supported models.

Use the timer
In the Camera app, look for the timer control or a timer option in the camera settings, choose a delay if offered, then position the tablet and pose. Samsung’s Tab S4 guidance lists a timer for the front camera. The exact controls may differ on other models.
Use a palm gesture

Open the Camera app’s settings and look for Shooting methods, Gesture control, or a similarly named option.

Turn on Show Palm or the equivalent setting, if available.

Return to the front-camera preview, position yourself, and hold your open palm where the camera can see it.

Wait for the camera to capture the photo. The Galaxy Tab A SM-T355 instructions describe a two-second delay; newer devices or other models may show a different countdown.

Samsung’s instructions for the Galaxy Tab A SM-T355 and its Show Palm guidance describe the gesture on supported devices. The Australian guidance is scoped to Australian device variants.

If you use a timer or palm gesture, a stand is optional but can make it easier to keep the tablet steady while you frame the shot. It is not required for either capture method.

Samsung’s guidance documents these options but does not establish that one produces better photos than another.
When an option or label is missing
Camera modes and settings depend on the tablet model, software version, and region. Samsung states that available camera modes vary by model. If you do not see a timer, grid lines, or palm-gesture setting, check Camera settings and the manual for your specific model rather than assuming the feature is supported. The cited Tab S4 and Tab A instructions apply to those models; they are examples, not universal menu paths. Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S4 camera guide is also specific to model SM-T830.
