To take a screenshot on a Samsung Galaxy A53, press the Side/Power button and the Volume Down button together, then release them immediately. The screen flashes to confirm the capture, and the image is saved to Gallery. If you prefer a gesture, you can enable palm swipe, and if a page runs past the bottom of the screen, a Scroll capture option may extend the image.
Method 1: Press the Side/Power and Volume Down buttons
This is the method Samsung describes for Galaxy devices generally, and it works on the A53 without any setup. Samsung Canada’s support page states that “for all Galaxy devices, taking a screenshot is usually done by using the Power and Volume down buttons.” Its guidance is specific to mobile devices sold in Canada, but the button combination is the same on the A53 sold elsewhere.
- Open the screen you want to capture.
- Press the Side/Power button and the Volume Down button at the same time.
- Release both buttons promptly. Holding them for an extended time can bring up the power menu or volume control instead of capturing the screen.
- Watch for the screen flash, which confirms the capture.
Method 2: Use palm swipe to capture
Palm swipe lets you capture the screen by sweeping the edge of your hand across the display. It is turned off by default on many Galaxy devices, so you need to enable it first. The Galaxy A53 5G manual lists this path:

- Open Settings.
- Tap Advanced features, then Motions and gestures.
- Turn on Palm swipe to capture.
- Rest the side of your hand against the screen and sweep it across the display from one edge to the other, keeping contact the whole way. The screen flashes when the capture succeeds.
If you do not see the Palm swipe option in that menu, your software version or model may not support it. Samsung notes that some Galaxy models lack palm swipe because of hardware limits, so the presence of the setting is the reliable check. Follow the menu labels on your own phone rather than assuming the path is identical across updates.

Capturing a long page with Scroll capture
A standard screenshot only records what fits on screen. For content that continues below the visible area, such as a long article or a chat thread, take a normal screenshot first, then look for the Scroll capture control in the screenshot toolbar that appears at the bottom of the screen. Tap it to add the content below the visible area to the capture.
Scroll capture depends on the app and the screen. Some pages and apps do not offer it, and Samsung’s support material does not promise that every scrollable view can be captured this way. If the icon does not appear, the page may not support it, and you can capture the sections in separate screenshots.

Where screenshots are saved and how to change settings
Samsung support states that captures are saved in Gallery. Open Gallery and look for the Screenshots album. If you cannot find an image, check that album first.

Those options include the screenshot toolbar, hiding the status and navigation bars in captures, the screenshot format, and the storage location. The manual also describes a “Save original screenshots” setting. The exact options can differ by software version, so check the labels on your phone.

For most readers the button combination is the fastest option and needs no setup. Palm swipe is worth enabling if you capture often and your phone shows the setting.
Troubleshooting
- The power menu or volume bar appears instead: Press both buttons together and release promptly. A brief simultaneous press is what triggers the capture.
- Palm swipe does nothing: Confirm that Palm swipe to capture is switched on in Motions and gestures. Keep the side of your hand in contact with the display as you sweep across it.
- Nothing is captured in a specific app: Banking apps and some secure screens block screenshots. Samsung UK support states that taking a screenshot “is prevented in certain places on your devices and by certain apps, such as banking apps.” Test the method on an ordinary screen to confirm the phone is working.
- Scroll capture is missing: It appears only when the content extends beyond the screen and the app supports it.
- You cannot find the screenshot: Open Gallery and check the Screenshots album. If you have changed the storage location in the screenshot settings, check that destination.
Scope of these instructions
These steps come from Samsung’s published support pages (Samsung Canada, last updated June 25, 2026, and Samsung UK, updated June 5, 2026) and the Galaxy A53 5G manual. They have not been checked against every carrier or software build, so menu names may differ slightly on your phone. The core button method has been consistent across Galaxy devices, which makes it the safest first step.
