To capture an entire webpage in Microsoft Edge, open the page, press Ctrl+Shift+S (Windows) or use Settings and more (…) > Screenshot (formerly Web Capture), choose Capture full page, review the result, and save it. This captures content below the visible viewport as one tall image, unlike a normal screen snip.
Capture an entire webpage in Edge
Edge has a built-in full-page capture tool. Microsoft’s current interface calls it Screenshot; older Edge versions and help pages may call it Web Capture. The basic workflow is the same on supported desktop installations.
- Open the webpage. Wait for the page to finish loading. If the page loads content only while you scroll, scroll through it first so images and sections are present.
- Open Screenshot. Press Ctrl+Shift+S, or select Settings and more (…) > Screenshot in the upper-right menu. You may also find the command by right-clicking the page and opening the context menu.
- Choose Capture full page. This is the option that captures the webpage beyond the current viewport. Do not choose Capture area unless you want only a selected rectangle.
- Review the capture. Edge opens a preview of the long image. Check the top, bottom, and any sections that use lazy loading.
- Save it. Use the save control in the preview and choose a location and filename. Keep the original page URL and capture date in the filename or accompanying notes if the image is for documentation.
Microsoft’s Edge guidance describes this as a built-in way to save an image of an entire webpage. The exact toolbar icons can change as Edge updates, but the command remains available through the menu or shortcut when the feature is enabled.
Full page versus area capture
Capture full page
Capture full page is for a complete article, dashboard, documentation page, or other vertically scrolling webpage. The output is a single image rather than a set of viewport-sized screenshots. Very long pages can produce a tall file that is awkward to open, print, or share, so consider PDF or a segmented capture when the recipient needs a paginated document.

Capture area
Capture area lets you drag around a portion of the page. After selecting it, Edge can copy the image, draw on it, highlight it, share it, or save it. Use this mode for a chart, error message, form section, or any region where the surrounding page is irrelevant.
What Edge captures—and what it does not
- A full-page capture represents the webpage layout, including content outside the visible screen.
- It is different from PrtSc, Windows Snipping Tool’s full-screen mode, or a macOS screen capture. Those tools capture the display or a window, not necessarily the complete document.
- It is also different from printing. Ctrl+P on Windows or Command+P on macOS creates a print-oriented, paginated result and may omit or rearrange interactive content.
- Interactive states are not preserved in a static image. A menu, video, hover state, or animation may appear only in the state visible when Edge captures it.
If you need a searchable, paginated record, print to PDF. If you need one visual reference of a long page, use Capture full page.
Platform, version, and managed-device limitations
Microsoft’s enterprise policy documentation lists Screenshot support for Edge on Windows and macOS from version 87 onward. That policy page lists Android and iOS as unsupported for this policy feature; this does not mean phones lack every kind of screenshot capability, only that the documented Edge Screenshot policy does not apply there.

Microsoft says that when the policy is enabled or unconfigured, Screenshot is exposed in the context menu, the Settings and more menu, and the Ctrl+Shift+S shortcut. If all three entry points are missing, ask the device administrator rather than changing system policy yourself.

When a full-page capture is the wrong output
Use print or PDF for formal documents
Choose Edge’s print dialog when page numbers, selectable text, paper size, margins, or landscape orientation matter. A PDF is generally easier to archive and print than one extremely tall bitmap. On supported websites, Immersive Reader can provide a cleaner, less cluttered print path, but it is not available on every site.
Use Snipping Tool for what is on screen
Windows Snipping Tool supports freeform, rectangular, window, and full-screen snips. It is the right choice for a visible dialog, desktop application, or screen region. It will not automatically assemble a webpage that extends below the viewport.
Use OneNote Web Clipper for research notes
OneNote Web Clipper offers Full Page and Region image captures, plus an Article mode that saves editable text and images to a notebook. It is an optional extension workflow, not a requirement for Edge’s built-in full-page screenshot.
Troubleshooting Edge full-page screenshots
The Screenshot command is missing
- Update Edge and restart it, then check Settings and more (…) > Screenshot again.
- Try Ctrl+Shift+S and the page context menu. If none works on a managed device, the
WebCaptureEnabledpolicy may be disabled. - Check that you are using desktop Edge. The enterprise policy documentation does not list Android or iOS support for this feature.
The capture stops before the bottom
Some pages add content as you scroll, put sections inside nested scroll boxes, or require a sign-in session. Scroll through the page once, wait for images and embedded content to finish, then run Capture full page again. If a nested panel has its own scrollbar, capture that panel with Capture area or use the site’s export function.

Images or fonts look incomplete
Wait for network activity to settle, disable temporary content-blocking extensions for the site, and repeat the capture. Lazy-loaded images may not appear until their section has entered the viewport. A static screenshot cannot reproduce content blocked by authentication, consent choices, or security controls.
The file is too large to share
Use an image editor to resize or export JPEG/WebP, split the long image into sections, or print the page to PDF. Keep the original capture if it may be needed as evidence; use a compressed copy for messaging.
The shortcut does something else
Keyboard shortcuts can be changed by extensions, remote-desktop software, or organization policies. Open the menu command directly. If it works there, use the menu or inspect extension and policy conflicts.

Practical reliability and privacy checks
- Capture after signing in only when the image may contain private data; treat the saved file as sensitive.
- Record the source URL and date because pages can change after capture.
- For legal, compliance, or incident records, preserve the original file and avoid editing it. Make annotations on a copy.
- Check consent, login, and paywall behavior before distributing a capture. A screenshot may reveal information that the live page later hides.

Can I capture only one element?

Does full-page capture create a PDF?

Why do older guides say Web Capture?
Microsoft rebranded the feature to Screenshot. Search results and older Edge builds may still display Web Capture.
Can I use the feature on a phone?
The enterprise policy documentation lists the Screenshot policy for Windows and macOS and marks Android and iOS unsupported. Use your device’s native scrolling-screenshot feature or another documented mobile workflow instead.
