To capture an entire webpage—not just what is visible on your monitor—use the OneNote Web Clipper extension. Open the page in Edge or Chrome, choose Full Page, select a OneNote destination, and click Clip. Windows Snipping Tool’s Full screen option captures the display only; it does not document a scrolling-webpage mode.
Full-screen versus full-page screenshots
These terms describe different results:
| Method | What it captures | Content below the viewport? | Typical output |
|---|---|---|---|
| OneNote Web Clipper – Full Page | The current webpage as a screenshot image | Yes, as one page capture | Image saved to a OneNote notebook |
| OneNote Web Clipper – Article | Webpage text and images | Content is retained as editable material | Editable content in OneNote |
| Snipping Tool – Full screen | The entire Windows display | No; only what is currently on screen | Image that you can annotate, crop, save or share |
| Edge printing | A print rendering of the page | Usually, as printed pages | Printer output or a print file, not one screenshot image |
Microsoft describes Snipping Tool’s Full screen mode as “Capture the entire screen.” That is the monitor, including the visible browser window—not the rest of a long webpage.
How do I take a screenshot of an entire webpage on Windows?
1. Install OneNote Web Clipper
Install the OneNote Web Clipper extension from the browser’s extension store. Microsoft’s setup instructions provide installation paths for both Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome. Follow the browser prompts, and review the permissions requested before adding the extension.
2. Open the page you want to capture
Navigate to the exact webpage and wait for the content you want to preserve to appear. Select the Web Clipper icon in the browser toolbar. Its position can vary if the extension is pinned or hidden in the extensions menu.

3. Sign in and approve requested permissions
The Web Clipper popup can ask you to sign in. Microsoft also notes that an application-permissions prompt may appear. Approve only the permissions you understand; Microsoft’s instructions say these application permissions can later be changed in your account settings.
4. Choose Full Page
Select Full Page in the clipper. Microsoft says this captures the current webpage to your notebook as a screenshot image. Choose Region instead when you need only a selected area. If a preview is shown, inspect it before sending the capture.
5. Pick a notebook destination and clip
Select the OneNote notebook section where the image should go. Add an optional note, then select Clip. The resulting item is stored in OneNote as the page screenshot.

Article mode saves the current webpage as editable text and images, so it is a different result from a faithful visual screenshot.
How do I screenshot a full page in Microsoft Edge?
Use the same Web Clipper workflow in Edge: install the extension, open the page, select the Web Clipper icon, choose Full Page, select a OneNote section and click Clip. The documented Microsoft workflow is extension-based. The Microsoft material reviewed here does not establish the current availability or exact behavior of a native Edge whole-page/Web Capture command, so do not assume that a command with a similar name will produce a scrolling capture in your Edge version.
When the built-in Snipping Tool is the right choice
Press Windows logo key + Shift + S to open the Snipping Tool overlay. You can choose:

- 256 GB SSD of storage.
- Multitasking is easy with 16GB of RAM
- Equipped with a blazing fast Core i5 2.00 GHz processor.
- Freeform: draw an irregular area.
- Rectangle: drag a rectangular selection.
- Window: capture a selected window.
- Full screen: capture the entire display.
Print Screen also copies a static image of the entire screen to the clipboard. These modes are useful when the information you need is visible now, such as a dialog, browser error or a single viewport. They do not add the webpage content that is below the current scroll position.
After capture, Snipping Tool can annotate, crop, save and share the image. Its Text actions feature can extract text from the captured image; Microsoft says recognition is performed locally on the device. Text actions do not expand the original capture into a full scrolling page.
Use Edge printing when you need a printable page
For a document to print or archive, open the page in Edge and press Ctrl+P, or select Settings and more > Print. Choose the printer and print settings you need. Microsoft also describes Immersive Reader as a possible clutter-free print workaround, but it may not be available on every website.
Printing is not equivalent to a one-image full-page screenshot: it creates print output, potentially across multiple pages, while Web Clipper’s Full Page option creates a screenshot image in OneNote.
Choose the output before you capture
- Choose Full Page when visual appearance, layout and the complete scrolling page matter.
- Choose Article when you need to edit or search the text and images in OneNote.
- Choose Snipping Tool when only the visible screen or a selected region is required.
- Choose Edge print when the final result is intended for paper or print-oriented files.
Troubleshooting a full-page capture
The result shows only what was on my screen
You probably used Snipping Tool’s Full screen mode or Print Screen. Those capture the display. Open Web Clipper and explicitly choose Full Page.

The extension asks for a sign-in or permissions
Sign in when the popup requests it so the clip can be associated with a OneNote notebook. Read the permission prompt before approving it. Microsoft’s instructions say application permissions can be changed later in account settings.
I selected Full Page but need only part of the page
Use Region and select the area you want, or use Snipping Tool’s Rectangle or Freeform mode for a quick visible-area capture.
I need searchable text, not a picture
Use Web Clipper’s Article option. It is designed to save editable text and images rather than preserve the page as one visual screenshot.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe page should be printed, not stored as an image
Use Edge’s Ctrl+P flow. If available for that site, Immersive Reader can provide a less cluttered print layout.
My site’s layout looks different in the capture
A screenshot records the page as it is rendered at capture time. Check that the intended page is open and that content you expect is visible before selecting Full Page. For pages requiring an account, special permissions or interactive actions, the site’s own access rules still apply.

ScreenshotNeo can capture a full page with lazy images loaded, one element by CSS selector, dark mode, any viewport or one of 12 device presets, and retina scale. It also supports PDF paper size, margins, landscape mode and page ranges; HTML/CSS-to-image; custom CSS and JavaScript; clicking an element before capture; hiding selectors; waiting for a selector, delay or network idle; blocking ads, trackers, requests or resource types; custom headers, cookies, user agent and Authorization; timezone and geolocation; transparent backgrounds; image resizing; cache TTLs; signed links for public <img> tags; asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks; bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call; a usage API; and an OpenAPI specification. Parameter names used by other screenshot APIs also work, which can simplify migration.
Its response headers identify the page verdict and whether the request was billed. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits cost nothing. Practical privacy and reliability checks
- Review extension permissions before installation, especially when clipping pages that contain private information.
- Confirm the destination notebook and section before selecting Clip.
- For sensitive pages, check whether the page requires a sign-in and whether your organization’s policies permit sending the content to OneNote or an external capture service.
- For automated jobs, inspect ScreenshotNeo’s
X-Page-VerdictandX-Billedresponse headers so your application can distinguish a clean capture from a bot check, blank page, timeout, failed load or cache hit.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Microsoft document a native Edge command that always captures an entire scrolling page?
The Microsoft material for this workflow documents OneNote Web Clipper’s Full Page option. It does not establish current availability or version-specific behavior for a native Edge whole-page command.
Can I capture many URLs without opening each page manually?
Yes. ScreenshotNeo’s API supports bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call, as well as asynchronous jobs and signed webhooks.
What happens when an automated page is blocked by a bot check?
ScreenshotNeo identifies the result in its response headers and does not bill bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads or cache hits.
