On an iPhone, Safari can capture an entire webpage from the screenshot preview. Take a normal screenshot, tap its preview, choose Full Page, then save the result as an image in Photos or as a PDF in Files. On a Mac, Safari does not document that same Full Page screenshot control: use macOS Screenshot for the screen, a window, or a selected area, or use Safari’s Save As command when you need a webpage archive or source file.

Choose the method that matches your device and output

Device What you want Built-in route
iPhone One long image of a Safari page Screenshot preview > Full Page, then save to Photos
iPhone A document containing the full capture Screenshot preview > Full Page > save the PDF to Files
iPhone A marked-up webpage PDF Safari Share > Markup, then save as PDF
Mac What is visible on the display macOS Screenshot controls for the entire screen, a window, or a selected portion
Mac An editable or archival webpage file Safari File > Save As and choose Web Archive or Page Source

The iPhone Full Page option is the only workflow in this guide that Apple describes as a full-page screenshot of content longer than the screen, with an entire Safari webpage as the example. It is selected inside the screenshot interface, not from a separate Safari menu.

Take a full-page Safari screenshot on iPhone

1. Open the page and let it reach the state you want to save

Open the target URL in Safari. Wait for the visible page to finish loading, expand any sections you want included, and dismiss anything that obscures the content. A full-page capture follows the page state shown when you take the screenshot; it is not a record of later interactions.

2. Take a normal screenshot

  1. On an iPhone with Face ID, quickly press and release the side button and volume-up button together.
  2. On an iPhone with a Home button, quickly press and release the side button and Home button together.

A thumbnail appears in the lower-left corner. If it disappears, open the screenshot from Photos; tapping the thumbnail immediately gives you the editing controls.

3. Switch from Screen to Full Page

Tap the screenshot preview, then select Full Page at the top of the editor. A tall preview appears, representing content that extends below the visible screen. Scroll through that preview to check that the beginning and end of the page are present.

4. Crop if necessary

Use the crop controls to remove browser chrome or unwanted margins. Cropping changes the saved capture, so inspect the top and bottom again before exporting.

5. Save in the format you need

  • Save as an image: use the photo-saving option so the capture goes to Photos.
  • Save as a PDF: use the PDF-to-Files option, choose a destination in Files, and confirm the save.

Use the image route when you need a picture for a message, design review, or visual reference. Use PDF when the recipient needs a document that can be stored, annotated, or attached to a ticket.

Save a marked-up webpage as a PDF on iPhone

Safari also has a separate webpage-to-PDF workflow. From the webpage, open Safari’s Share sheet, choose Markup, add notes or drawings if needed, and save the marked-up webpage as a PDF. This is a document workflow, not a second setting inside the Full Page screenshot editor. Choose it when annotation is the purpose; choose Full Page when you primarily need the screenshot capture itself.

What can prevent a useful full-page capture?

Very long or interactive pages

The preview may be difficult to inspect when a page is exceptionally long. Scroll through it rather than assuming the first view is complete. Pages that reveal content only after a click, login, consent action, or other interaction may not show every possible state in one capture.

Dynamic, protected, or restricted content

Apple’s guidance does not establish that every dynamic or access-restricted element will render identically in every full-page capture. If a page depends on a session, continuously changing data, embedded content, or access controls, verify the saved file before sharing it. A blank region, missing embed, or stale state can be a property of the page rather than a problem with the screenshot buttons.

Privacy and sensitive information

A full-page image or PDF can include material far below the portion you were reading: account details, tracking parameters in links, comments, or footer contact information. Scroll through the entire preview and crop or redact sensitive material before sending the file.

Safari on Mac: use the right built-in feature

For a screen, window, or selected region

Apple’s Mac screenshot guidance documents macOS Screenshot controls for capturing the entire screen, a window, or a selected portion. Use the option that matches what must be visible in the resulting image. These controls are screen-capture tools; Apple does not describe them as a Safari Full Page webpage mode.

For the webpage itself as a file

In Safari for Mac, choose File > Save As. Safari offers Web Archive and Page Source choices:

  • Web Archive attempts to preserve the page’s graphics and links in an archive. Links can still depend on the destination pages remaining available.
  • Page Source saves the HTML source rather than a rendered screenshot.

Some webpages may prevent saving items shown on the page. A web archive or source file is therefore not interchangeable with a visual screenshot: choose the archive when preserving webpage structure matters, and use macOS Screenshot when you need an image of what is on screen.

How to choose image, PDF, archive, or source

Deliverable Best choice Why
Long visual reference iPhone Full Page saved to Photos Produces one scroll-length image for viewing or sharing
Document attachment iPhone Full Page saved as PDF Stores the long capture in Files as a document
Annotated review Safari Share > Markup > PDF Designed for notes and drawings on a webpage document
Rendered Mac screen macOS Screenshot Captures the full screen, a window, or a chosen region
Preserved webpage package Safari Web Archive Keeps webpage resources and links where available
HTML inspection Safari Page Source Saves source markup rather than the visual rendering

Troubleshooting

There is no Full Page tab

Make sure you took the screenshot while the webpage was open in Safari and tapped its preview before it disappeared. The Full Page choice applies to content longer than the screen; it is not a general option for every screenshot context. If the preview was dismissed, open the capture in Photos and try the available editing controls there.

The capture stops before the bottom

Reopen the page, wait for content to load, and take a new screenshot. Check the long preview by scrolling all the way down before saving. If the page inserts content only after scrolling or interaction, perform that action first; a single capture cannot represent states you never loaded.

The PDF is saved, but I cannot find it

Use the Files destination shown in the PDF-to-Files save sheet and note the selected folder. Search Files for the filename if you chose a location you do not normally use. Saving as an image instead places the result in Photos, not Files.

The Mac result is an image, but I needed the page structure

Use Safari’s File > Save As and select Web Archive or Page Source. A screen capture records pixels; it does not preserve the underlying HTML, links, or page resources as a webpage file.

Some content is missing or looks different

Check whether the missing area is dynamic, embedded, protected, or dependent on a login or consent state. Confirm that the page was fully loaded and that required actions were completed. Apple does not promise identical rendering for every website, so verify the saved output rather than treating a blank or altered element as proof that the entire page was captured.

Or skip the browser setup: ScreenshotNeo

For repeated captures, server-side jobs, or pages you need to process in code, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. A GET request returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. Its full-page mode can load lazy images, and you can capture one element by CSS selector, set a device preset or any viewport, use dark mode and retina scale, and choose PDF paper size, margins, landscape orientation, or page ranges.

It also supports custom CSS and JavaScript, clicking an element before capture, hiding selectors, waiting for a selector, a delay, or network idle, and blocking ads, trackers, requests, or resource types. Request controls include custom headers, cookies, user agent, Authorization, timezone, geolocation, transparent backgrounds, image resizing, and caching with a TTL you choose. For delivery and operations, there are signed links for public <img> tags, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call, a usage API, and an OpenAPI specification. Parameter names used by other screenshot APIs also work, which can simplify a migration.

Before capture, ScreenshotNeo accepts the cookie or consent banner like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be turned off. Only clean shots are billed. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and each response identifies the result with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools to Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.

FAQ

Is a Web Archive the same as a screenshot?

No. A screenshot is a rendered image (or a PDF capture), while a Web Archive is a saved webpage package whose links and resources may depend on their original destinations remaining available.

Can I use the iPhone Full Page option for a page that fits on one screen?

The Full Page control is intended for content longer than the screen. For a short page, a normal screenshot may be simpler and avoids creating an unnecessarily tall file.
