To capture a webpage in Microsoft Edge, open the page, press Ctrl+Shift+S, choose Capture full page or Capture area, then mark up, copy, or save the result. Edge calls this built-in tool Screenshot in current versions; older versions and instructions may call it Web Capture. The exact menu location and availability can differ by browser version, device, market, or organization policy.
Capture a complete webpage in Edge
Edge’s Screenshot tool can capture content that extends below the visible browser window. Use the full-page option when you need the entire article, dashboard, receipt, or documentation page rather than only what is currently on screen.
- Open the webpage in Microsoft Edge and wait for the content you need to load.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+S. This is Microsoft’s documented shortcut for Screenshot/Web Capture.
- Choose Capture full page. Edge scrolls through the webpage and creates one tall image containing content below the viewport.
- Review the image in the capture editor. Use the available drawing or markup controls if you need to highlight or obscure something.
- Choose the command to Copy the image to the clipboard or Save it to a file. Select the destination and format offered by your Edge version.
For a very long page, allow the capture to finish before switching tabs or closing the window. Pages that continuously change, require sign-in, or load content only after interaction may not look identical to the live page.
Capture only part of a webpage
Use an area capture when the whole page is unnecessary—for example, a chart, a form section, or a single paragraph.

- Open the target page.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+S, or open Screenshot from an Edge menu.
- Select Capture area.
- Drag around the region you want. Adjust the selection before confirming it.
- Mark up the result if needed, then copy or save it.
Area capture is tied to the page shown in Edge, so it is different from selecting an arbitrary rectangle anywhere on your monitor.
Other ways to open Screenshot
The shortcut is the fastest route, but Edge also exposes Screenshot through browser menus. Depending on the current release, look in the Settings and more menu (the three-dot button) or the page’s right-click context menu. The label may appear as Screenshot, Web Capture, or Web capture.
If you cannot find it, type “Screenshot” or “Web Capture” into Edge’s settings search. Microsoft notes that feature availability and functionality can vary. On a managed work or school computer, an administrator can control whether Web Capture is available. Microsoft’s WebCaptureEnabled policy makes the option available in the context menu, Settings and more menu, and through Ctrl+Shift+S when enabled or left unconfigured.

What the capture can and cannot include
Full-page capture
- Includes content below the visible viewport.
- Produces one webpage image rather than a series of separate screen crops.
- May reflect the page’s current state, including expanded sections, personalized content, or a signed-in session.
Area capture
- Captures only the rectangle you select in the webpage.
- Is useful for sharing a focused detail without exposing the rest of the page.
- Does not replace a full-page capture when you need content farther down the page.
Dynamic and protected pages
- Cookie notices, chat bubbles, advertising, animations, and lazy-loaded sections can affect the appearance.
- A page that blocks automated-looking behavior, requires a second factor, or changes while Edge scrolls may produce an incomplete or inconsistent image.
- Private information visible in the page is included in the capture; inspect the image before sharing it.
Copy, annotate, or save the screenshot
After Edge renders the image, use its editing controls before exporting. A quick workflow is:
- Draw a box, arrow, or freehand mark over the important area.
- Check that the annotation does not cover text someone must read.
- Copy the finished image when you are pasting it into an email, chat, document, or issue tracker.
- Save a file when you need a reusable attachment or an evidence record.
Saving preserves the capture independently of the live webpage. That matters when the page may later change or disappear.
Edge Screenshot versus Windows capture and printing

Windows Snipping Tool is useful when the thing you need is outside Edge, such as another application window. It is not Edge’s documented full-webpage workflow. Printing is preferable when pagination, paper size, margins, or a PDF is more important than an image of the rendered page.

Troubleshoot a missing or unusable capture
The shortcut does nothing
- Click inside the Edge window and try Ctrl+Shift+S again.
- Open the three-dot Settings and more menu and look for Screenshot or Web Capture.
- On a work or school device, ask whether an administrator disabled the feature through policy.
- Update Edge if the browser is using an older interface. Menu names can change between releases.
Screenshot is not listed in any menu
The feature may not be available for your device, market, browser build, or managed installation. Try Edge’s settings search for both “Screenshot” and “Web Capture.” If policy restrictions apply, only your organization’s administrator can change them.

The full-page image stops early
- Wait for lazy-loaded content and images to finish appearing before starting the capture.
- Close overlays or expand the section you want included.
- Reload the page and capture again if the page encountered a network or script error.
- For a page that requires scrolling-triggered interaction, capture separate areas and assemble them in an editor if a single full-page result is not reliable.
The result contains a cookie banner, popup, or chat widget
Dismiss the overlay in the webpage before capturing. If it returns on reload, use Capture area around the content you need, or use an automated screenshot service that can remove common consent and overlay elements before rendering.
The saved image is missing private or personalized content
Confirm that you are signed in to the correct account, that the required content is expanded, and that the page has finished loading. Some content is intentionally hidden from automated or unauthenticated views.

Can I use Edge Screenshot on a Mac?
The feature and its menu availability can vary by device and Edge version. If the documented Windows shortcut is unavailable, open Screenshot from Edge’s menus and use Capture full page or Capture area.
Does Edge Screenshot create a PDF?
The Screenshot tool creates an image for copying or saving. Use Edge’s print workflow when you need print output or a PDF-style result.
Why is Web Capture called Screenshot in some instructions?
Screenshot is the current name in Edge; Web Capture was the former name, so older support pages and browser builds may use that label.
