To capture an entire web page, use your browser’s full-page screenshot command rather than a normal screenshot. Edge offers Capture full page, Firefox offers Save full page, and Chrome provides Capture a full-page screenshot in DevTools. On an iPhone, take a screenshot in Safari, tap the preview, choose Full Page, then save it as an image or PDF. Use print-to-PDF when you need a paginated document instead of one very tall image.
Choose the result you actually need
A regular screenshot records only the pixels currently visible in the viewport. A full-page capture extends below the fold and is better for documentation, sharing a long article, or preserving a page layout. A PDF is usually easier to read, search, print, and file, but pagination can change spacing, fonts, advertisements, and other live-page elements.

Menus and shortcuts can differ by browser version, operating system, device, market, and language. If a label is not present, use the browser’s current command search or context menu instead of relying on an old tutorial.
Microsoft Edge: capture the full page
- Open the page in Edge on your desktop.
- Open Edge’s Screenshot feature. You can use the documented shortcut Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows, or open the browser menu and choose the screenshot command.
- Select Capture full page. Edge captures content below the visible viewport without requiring you to scroll manually.
- Use the markup tools if you need to draw, highlight, or add a note.
- Copy the result or save it to your chosen location.
Microsoft describes the shortcut as “Press Ctrl+Shift+S and select Capture full page to grab everything at once, with no scrolling required.” Availability and exact controls can vary by device, market, and Edge version.

Firefox: save a full-page image
- Open the web page in Firefox for desktop.
- Right-click an empty area of the page and choose Take Screenshot. If the item is hidden, open the page-actions menu and select the screenshot tool.
- Choose Save full page.
- Download the capture as an image, or copy it to the clipboard when that option is offered.
Firefox’s developer tooling also documents a Web Console :screenshot helper. It supports options such as a delay, device-pixel ratio, and filename, which can help when a page needs time to render or when you need repeatable naming. The exact syntax and available options are version-sensitive, so check the current Firefox Developer Tools documentation before automating a workflow.
Chrome: use DevTools full-page capture
- Open the page in Chrome desktop.
- Open DevTools with F12, Ctrl+Shift+I on Windows/Linux, or Command+Option+I on macOS.
- Open the DevTools command menu (usually Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows/Linux or Command+Shift+P on macOS).
- Type Capture a full-page screenshot and select the matching command.
- Chrome downloads the resulting image. Use the related commands when you need an element, mobile-version, or rectangular-area capture instead.
DevTools labels and keyboard shortcuts change occasionally. Searching the command menu for “full-page screenshot” is more reliable than memorizing a toolbar location.
Safari on iPhone: save an entire webpage
- Open the page in Safari.
- Take a normal iPhone screenshot using your model’s button combination.
- Tap the screenshot preview before it disappears.
- At the top of the preview, choose Full Page.
- Use the share or save controls to store the result in Photos as an image, or in Files as a PDF.
Apple documents this for content longer than the iPhone screen, including an entire Safari webpage. The available save destinations can depend on iOS version and installed apps.
Save a webpage as a PDF instead
Choose PDF when the reader needs pagination, selectable text, printing, or a file that can be searched and archived.

- Open the page and the browser print dialog: press Ctrl+P on Windows or Command+P on Mac.
- In the destination or printer list, choose a PDF option supplied by your browser or operating system, such as “Save as PDF” or “Microsoft Print to PDF.” Exact labels depend on the platform.
- Review page range, orientation, paper size, margins, headers, and background-graphics settings.
- Save the file and open it once to verify that headings, images, tables, and links are present.
Print layouts are not a pixel-for-pixel copy of the live page. Fixed headers may repeat, lazy content may be absent, and responsive designs can reflow to the selected paper size.
When full-page capture does not look right
Lazy-loaded images are missing
Some pages load images only after an element approaches the viewport. Scroll through the page once, wait for images to appear, then capture again. If the browser still omits them, a capture service that explicitly loads lazy images can be more consistent.
Sticky headers or repeated sections appear many times
Full-page tools stitch or render a long document while fixed elements remain active. Try the browser’s reader or print view, hide the fixed selector with developer tools, or use a capture workflow that can hide selected CSS elements.

Dismiss each overlay before capturing. If a consent dialog blocks interaction, accept or configure it first, then take the screenshot. Automated captures need an explicit consent and cleanup step.

The page changes while it is being captured
Pause animations, wait for a known selector, or allow the network to become idle before starting. Live dashboards, rotating carousels, and personalized content can never be assumed to be identical between captures.
The page requires a login or special request headers
Use the authenticated browser session for a one-off capture. For automation, choose a tool that supports cookies, custom headers, an Authorization header, or a user-agent string, and treat credentials as secrets.
The result is too tall or too large to share
Resize the image, select a lower device scale, or switch to PDF. A PDF’s pages are easier to print and review than a single extremely tall bitmap.

- Only the visible viewport was saved: choose the browser’s full-page command, not its ordinary screenshot shortcut.
- No screenshot command appears: update the browser or use its command menu; labels vary by version and device.
- Text is cut off: reduce zoom, disable an obstructing extension, or capture the relevant element instead of the whole document.
- Blank output: wait for the page to load, check that the URL works in a normal tab, and retry after disabling a blocking extension.
- PDF is missing colors or images: enable background graphics where the print dialog offers that setting and verify the page after saving.
