Open the news article, then decide whether you need the part currently visible or the entire scrollable page. Use your device’s built-in screenshot for a visible section; use a full-page or scrolling capture when the article continues below the screen. The exact controls depend on your phone, computer, operating-system version, browser and app.
Choose the capture you actually need
- Visible screenshot: captures only what is on screen now. It is best for a headline, paragraph, chart or quotation.
- Full-page or scrolling capture: joins content below the screen into one long image, or saves it as a PDF. It works only where the device, app or browser supports scrolling capture.
- Image or PDF: an image is convenient for messaging and annotation; a PDF is often easier to read, print or archive when the article is long.
A screenshot shows what was displayed at the time you captured it. It does not independently prove that the article is still available or accurate. When sharing, retain the publication name, headline and date in the image or accompanying message where practical.
iPhone: capture an article in Safari
Take the visible screen
- Open the article in Safari and position the headline or passage you need.
- On an iPhone with Face ID, press the side button and Volume Up together, then release. On an iPhone with a Home button, press the side (or top) button and Home together.
- Tap the thumbnail that appears in the lower-left corner to edit, crop, mark up or share. The screenshot is saved in Photos unless you delete it.
Button locations and timing can vary by iPhone model. Apple’s current instructions are in Take a screenshot on iPhone.

- Take a normal screenshot while the article is open in Safari.
- Tap the screenshot preview, then select Full Page if that tab is offered.
- Use the crop controls to limit the page if needed.
- Tap Done, then choose Save PDF to Files and select a folder.

Android: use a standard or scrolling screenshot
Take the visible screen
- Open the article and display the section you want.
- Press Power + Volume down at the same time and release.
- If that shortcut does not work, hold the Power button for a few seconds and tap Screenshot when it appears.
- Use the preview toolbar to crop, annotate or share. The file normally appears in your Screenshots folder in Photos or Files.
Google describes these methods in Android Help. Manufacturers can change button behavior and menus.
Make a scrolling capture
- Take a screenshot of the article.
- Tap Capture more, Scroll or a similarly named button in the preview.
- Drag the handles to include the required length, then tap Save.
Android 12 and later support scrolling screenshots on most screens that allow scrolling, according to Google. The option may be missing for an app, a protected page or a device whose manufacturer implements the feature differently. Check the phone maker’s support instructions if the control is unavailable.
Windows: Snipping Tool or a full-page Edge capture
Capture what is visible
- Open the article.
- Press Windows + Shift + S, or open Snipping Tool from the Start menu.
- Choose rectangular, freeform, window or full-screen snip, depending on the version shown.
- Select the area. Use the notification to open the result, annotate it and save or copy it.

Capture an entire webpage in Microsoft Edge
- Open the article in Edge.
- Open the browser menu and choose Screenshot (the label may appear as Web capture in some releases), or use the command shown by Edge.
- Choose Full page or select an area.
- Mark up, copy or save the result.
Edge’s feature page documents full-page and selected-area capture: Screenshot Tool in Microsoft Edge. Other Windows browsers may offer different commands, so do not assume Snipping Tool will stitch a long webpage.
Chromebook: Screen Capture
- Open the article.
- Press the dedicated Screenshot key if your keyboard has one. Otherwise open Quick Settings and select Screen Capture, or press Shift + Ctrl + Show windows.
- Choose full screen, partial screen or window capture, then select the target.
- Open the notification or Files app to rename, edit, copy or share it.
Chromebook saves screenshots in Downloads by default. In Screen Capture settings you can change the destination. See Google Chromebook Help for current controls.
When a news article will not capture cleanly
The article is longer than the capture
Use the platform’s scrolling or Full Page control rather than repeatedly pressing the ordinary shortcut. If no long-capture option exists, take overlapping sections and keep them in order. A desktop browser’s full-page feature may be more reliable than a mobile app.

Cookie banners, popups or chat cover the text
Dismiss the banner before capturing, close newsletter prompts and collapse chat widgets. If a paywall or sign-in screen legitimately blocks the article, capture only the content you are authorized to view; a screenshot does not bypass access controls.
Images or lazy-loaded paragraphs are missing
Scroll through the article once so media loads, wait for the page to settle, then retry. Slow connections, reader modes and app-specific web views can render a different page from the publisher’s normal website.
The result is blurry or enormous
Use the original screenshot file rather than a preview copied from a chat app. For a very long page, PDF export or several focused images can be easier to read and share than one compressed, oversized image.
Private or protected content appears black
Some apps and sites prevent screenshots for security or rights reasons. Use the app’s permitted share, print or export function instead; do not try to defeat those protections.

Reliability, privacy and sharing checks
- Confirm the headline, publication and date are visible before you save.
- For a full article, check the bottom of the capture; lazy-loaded content can stop before the final paragraph.
- Do not expose account numbers, private messages, subscription details or location data in a shared image; crop or redact them first.
- Keep the original file when evidence or later review matters, because messaging services often recompress images.
- Respect copyright, publisher terms and personal-data obligations when redistributing an article.
